CHAPTER FORTY-NINE.
Adele couldn’t understand Jamal’s sudden change in behaviour towards her. Ever since they lost their child, he had been treating her like she meant the world to him. Like she was the only person who mattered to him and that freaked her out a great deal.
She had already made peace with the fact that he did not love or care about her and now that he was acting so differently, it scared her because she did not know what to think or how to handle the situation.
The damage had been done and she wanted nothing to do with him, but he seemed to not be d’accord with that fact.
The entire day went by with her laying at home. She slept for the better part of the day and by nightfall, she decided to watch a movie before going to pick out the outfit she was going to wear to work the next day.
Now that she had seen that everyone at the company dressed elegantly, she was going to her best to dress well so that blending in will not be difficult. Her first experience was not a good one. The place seemed to be filled with rich people who had a specialty in looking down on other people who did not fall in their social status, so if she had to work there in peace and not lose her sanity, she had to appear to be of good social status so as not to get bullied.
Her cell phone rang by her side and picked it up with her right hand and immediately answered the call when she saw her grandma’s name on the caller ID. They spoke on a daily basis.
Grandma wanted to know everything that was going on in her life and she didn’t mind filling her in on every detail.
“Good evening grandma.” She greeted the moment she pressed the phone on her left ear.
“Adele!” Called grandma enthusiastically. “How are you doing sweetheart?”
“I’m doing just fine grandma, thank you.”
“How was your first visit to the conglomerate? Did you like it? Did they treat you well?” Grandma asked eagerly and Adele huffed, taking a more comfortable position on the chair. She was about to narrate all that happened to her grandmother.
“Nope, I didn’t like it. The person in charge of collecting my CV did not treat me nicely and I almost lost it.”
“Oh my God! I hope you reported her to Jamal so he could punish her severely. She had no right to do that!” Grandma scolded.
“I did report to Jamal and it ended in me begging him on her behalf because he threatened to fire six people just because of that little incident. Grandma, your grandson is the ultimate drama king.” She lamented and Grandma Devon laughed hard on the other end of the phone.
She knew how much Jamal loved his wife Adele and the things he would do to make sure she was comfortable. Adele just did not know that.
“Grandma it’s not funny. Jamal can act very irrationally at times. He just decided to fire those workers without thinking of the consequences. how it was going to affect their lives and the conglomerate as well… look, I don’t even know why I’m bothered about him right now.”
“Adele, that’s how much he loves and cares for you. He is ready to put everything on the line just to make sure you are comfortable.” Grandma tells Adele and she snorts.
She didn’t believe a single thing grandma had just said to her.
Deep in her heart, she was convinced that Jamal had no iota of feelings for her and he cared less about her and that was never going to change.
“Yeah… whatever.” She slurred in an attempt to dismiss the topic. She didn’t want to talk about anything that had to do about Jamal.
“Sweetheart, I know this must be hard for you to take, given all that has happened, but this is nothing but the truth. Jamal loves you, he cares about you and he wants you back. He wants the two of you to be together again. He is ready to make things right, all you have to do is give him a second chance.”
“And how are you sure about that, grandma?” She asked curious and grandma exhaled heavily before responding.
“You see, when you left, I had a heart to heart talk with Jamal and I managed to convince to tell me the reason why treated you the way he did when you got married. I’m not going to tell you what he said, because it’s not my place to say. He has to tell you himself, but what I have to say is that all of that is over. He has dealt with whatever was stopping him from showing you to the world as his wife and he is ready to do that now.”
“Grandma, I don’t understand.” Adele was truly confused.
In the past, the only thing Jamal told her was that he had a reason for doing the things he did, but he never told her what that reason was. Now that grandma had mentioned it again, she was eager to know.
“You might not know this, but Jamal is now the sole owner of Dominick Co.” Grandma announced and Adele’s mouth fell in shock. He had mentioned it back at the office, but she did not take him seriously.
“No way!” She whispered over the phone, completely flabbergasted by what she had just heard.
“Yes way, my dear. I don’t know how he did it, but he managed to take that conglomerate from his father and right now he is the sole owner. He has the highest shares in the conglomerate and everyone answers to him and not to his father anymore. Even the mansion we now live in is owned by him. The young man made sure to take everything his father ever owned and now, there is some sort of very silent rivalry between him and his father.” Grandma further explained and Adele was speechless.
She had no idea things had taken such a drastic turn.
“My God…” was all she said. She was speechless. “How… how… how did he do it?”
“That is something even I do not know. He has refused to tell me or anyone how he went about getting all those things for himself. When he acquired the conglomerate, he wanted to change the name, but I managed to talk him out of it. My dear, all I can say is that Jamal has managed to conquer every challenge life has thrown at him and right now he is ruling like the King he is. He is in control of everything related to the Dominicks. His parents are at his mercy right now.”
“Holy moly!” Adele exclaimed and she laughed hard when she thought of how badly Aliya could be handling the situation.
Her husband was no longer in control, her mouth must have definitely been shut in the most brutal way.
“Wow! Just wow! I have always known Jamal to be the kind of man who would do great things, but this! This is way more than I ever expected. He is indeed a King!” She complimented him with a wide smile.
“So dear, I advise you to listen to what he has to say. There must have been a reason why he acted the way he did. Just hear him out.”
“Grandma, there’s no explanation Jamal will give that will stop me from hating him. He made me lose my child. He has rendered me almost useless. I don’t care if he becomes the president of this country grandma, I still don’t want him back. I will never accept him back. Never!” She firmly deciphered and hung up before Grandma could say anything else.
Her word was her word.
