CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE.
The next morning, Adele woke up with terrible morning sickness. Jamal was sitting on the sofa in their bedroom, tying away on his laptop.
Adele wanted to go into the bathroom and vomit, but she was scared that he would understand her reason for vomiting. She was still very mad at him and she did not want him to know just yet that she was pregnant with his child.
She needed some time to make up her mind to do so.
“Good morning Adele.” Jamal greeted from the Sofa without sparing her a glance.
“Good morning.” She mumbled, trying hard to keep her vomit at bay. She was experiencing her worst symptom days in his presence!
She kept looking at him every two minutes and praying he would just vanish to his bureau or library, or have a sudden meeting at his company, or even vanish to the tennis court to meet his most precious Danielle, but he did not and it was becoming much harder to support
nausea with every passing moment.
He on the other hand was stupidly working on his laptop, and looked at her often for only god knows what strange reason.
She was seriously mad, especially when she remembered the day she had caught him hugging Lydia at his study room. She didn’t even want to stay in the same room with him.
When the urge to vomit became unbearable, she quickly jumped down from the bed and rushed into the toilet where she sat down before the toilet pot and vomited the hell out of herself.
Jamal, who was frightened by her sudden reaction, woke up and rushed over to the bathroom door only to find out that it had been locked. He started to repeatedly knock on the bathroom door and call Adele.
He was worried about her.
At that time, all the pressure and pain Adele felt suddenly bubbled up inside her chest and she sat on the ground and didn’t find the will to move.
She ignored his calls and knocks until she heard him say:
” I’m breaking the door!”
” Just leave me alone!” Adele yelled back, almost in tears.
She had just vomited everything in her stomach and she was weak and famished.
Jamal stopped knocking and calling. When Adele regained her strength, she finally stood up, washed up her face and mouth and made up her mind to leave the bathroom.
When she opened the door, she found Jamal standing right in front of her, blocking her way. She had no strength to argue with him.
“Please, I would like to sit down, I’m exhausted.” She pleaded breathlessly and Jamal could see from the look of things that she wasn’t fine at all.
He soon freed the way for her, and followed her closely until she sat down on the bed.
He then took out a bottle of water and handed it to her before sitting by her side. He had never seen her in such a weak state and it bothered him a lot.
” Are you ok? Should I ask for a doctor to come?” He asked, concerned.
“I’m fine. You can leave.” She replied coldly.
Jamal was not convinced with her answer at all.
“You consulted the gynecologist yesterday and you said nothing was wrong, but I think you should see another doctor, maybe the problem is not gynecological but something else, don’t you agree?”
He answered and Adele got even more enraged. She never said nothing was wrong. She only mentioned it
was a regular visit, and he didn’t care to know more.
At that time Adele truly believed he was cheating on her
with Danielle. She had already caught them hugging. What she did not understand was why he had accepted to marry her when it was evident that he was interested in someone else.
” As if you care!” Adele whispered her thoughts.
“But I do care. A lot if I may add. You are my wife Adele and I care about your health a lot.” He corrected Adele with determination. He looked into her eyes for a long
moment and even the utmost despise he must have seen in them didn’t discourage him from talking.
” I care about you the most, if only you could
believe that.” He confessed and Adele smiled mockingly.
“Yes, you care about me so much, but the moment I turn away, you go hug another woman. It isn’t your infidelity that hurts my pride Jamal. I understand we both have no feelings for one another, but at least for the sake of the long years we have known each other, you could have been honest with me about it and told me.” Adele cried.
Jamal remained silent, looking at the ground and the moment she finished talking , he suddenly stood up looking very perturbed and unlike himself he took few
steps away, then changed his mind and stopped
walking.
He took a deep breath while turning to look at Adele.
“If my infidelity means nothing to you, then what is the point of us being married? I understand you must be feeling disappointed after what you witnessed the other day, so these words don’t reflect your true intentions, but if they are genuine Adele, then I don’t see why I should prove my innocence to a woman who cares this little about me.” He said and walked into the bathroom.
Neither of them uttered a word to each other until Jamal finished bathing and dressing for work.
When he got out of the closet fully dressed, he walked over to Adele who was still seated on the bed and kissed her forehead.
“Stay at home. I will talk to the cooks to serve you whatever you want in here. If anything comes up, do not hesitate to call me, I won’t let my secretary take the call this time.” Then he left the bedroom.
Adele sat glued to the bed for over thirty minutes. Crying and cursing herself for marrying such a cruel man.
When she was tired of lamenting, she rose from the bed and that is when she noticed wetness between her thighs. She rushed into the bathroom and took down her pants. All her nerves tensioned in her body when she noticed she was bleeding.
That was not a good sign.
