CHAPTER EIGHTEEN.
Adele shook on the bed and snapped her eyes open when her very loud alarm sounded. Letting out an exasperated sigh, she picked up her cell phone and quickly turned off the alarm. It was six am in the morning and she needed to wake up and prepare for work. When she turned back to the other side of the bed, she noticed that Jamal was nowhere to be found. She weakly sat upright to scan around the room, thinking he would be sitting around somewhere, but he wasn’t. The room was void of any form of Jamal.
“No, he did not!” She whispered as she took off the sheets from her naked body and stepped down from the bed. She winced when she felt the soreness between her thighs and that’s when the memories of last night flooded her mind. She recalled how Jamal ate her in and out. How he made her scream and above all, how he made her cum.
That was her first night with a man and he had made it an incredible one for her. He was gentle with her as if he knew she had been a virgin. Just the thought of that made her face turn tomato red. As she made her way into the bathroom to check for Jamal, her cell phone rang on the nightstand and instantly rushed over to it. Her soul left her body when she saw Jamal’s name on the caller ID. She immediately picked up her phone and swiped the green icon without any second thoughts.
“Good morning Adele.” His baritone voice came through causing Adele to unintentionally bite her lips.
Sexy!
“Good morning Jamal.” She greeted and her face turned ox-blood. She was blushing so hard that her cheeks hurt from too much redness.
“I’m guessing you have noticed my absence.”
“You guessed right.”
“I’m sorry I had to leave without informing you. You were sound asleep and I didn’t want to disturb you. I’m on a flight to Paris for some urgent business that needs my attention and I will be there for the entire week. Will only be home by the weekend.” He explained and Adele felt tears burning in her eyes. Her heart rate multiplied and she felt like she could no longer breathe .
She was heartbroken that her husband left for work after such an incredible night without even letting her know, but she needed to act cool.
“Adele, are you there?” Jamal asked when he sensed Adele’s silence and she cleared her throat to reply.
“Yeah… yeah, I’m here. I’m just… I’m just overwhelmed by what you just said.”
“Are you alright?” He asked, concerned and Adele couldn’t take it any more. She burst into tears on the phone as she slumped on the bed with her left hand on her forehead.
Jamal didn’t say or do anything. He let her cry out her frustration and he felt very guilty.
“Adele…” He called when she was finally calm again.
“Of all days, did it really have to be today?” Adele asked with a raspy voice.
“Yes, it had to be today. I’m sorry Adele.”
“No you are not.” Adele rebuked, shaking her head as if he could see her. “You are never sorry for your actions.”
“You judge me wrongly. It was not my intention to leave you after what happened between us last night, but like I said, things like this are not in my control.”
“I just want you to be here with me.”
“You are going to have me all to yourself by the weekend. I’m sure you must have seen the blood stains on the sheets.”
Adele had not noticed. She turned to take a proper look at the white sheets and indeed there was a blood stain at the center.
It was her blood.
“I just saw it.”
“You know what that means right?” Jamal asked.
“Yes I do.”
“I just want to let you know that I’m very proud of you, my wife and when I come back by the weekend, I’m going to make it up to you. I promise.”
“I’ve heard you.”
“I have to go now, have a nice day. Call me if you need anything and please Adele, you have my master card. There’s a terrific amount of money in there, use it. I am your husband and you have the right to spend my money. I am begging you to spend my money!”
“Understood. Have a nice day.” Then she ended the call.
She was devastated.
She had always kept herself for the man she would marry, but she did not expect the man to behave like Jamal had done the night after he had taken her virginity. She wanted to wake up in his arms. She wanted to have him tell her he was proud of her in person.
Jamal was crushing every beautiful dream she had had about certain moments of her life and she hated it.
She didn’t feel like going to work. She was terribly sore and her legs felt wobbly. Her heart was bleeding from the things Jamal was doing to her, but she knew she couldn’t absent work without prior notice to her superior.
“Jamal.” She whispered, shaking her head as she strode into the bathroom to take her bath.
***************************************************************
Adele’s colleagues noticed her sour mood at work and they were worried. They understood that Adele was a very calm and reserved person who liked to be in her personal space, but she always somehow interacted with them, but that day was different. She went straight into her office when she came to work and didn’t come out all morning. She only sent her secretary to deliver or receive any files she needed. Even during break, she did not join them for lunch. She locked herself up in her office and had nothing to eat. They were worried and two of her colleagues, whom she was closest to, decided to come and ask what was bothering her.
“Adele.” Wendy called as she knocked on the door. “Please open up, we are worried about you.”
Adele let out a heavy sigh and rolled her eyes. She was in a very sour mood and didn’t want to talk to anyone, but she knew if she did not open that door and let them in, they would report the issue to her superior, Mr. Frank and if Mister Frank got involved, she was going to say things she did not want to say.
When the second knock and call came through, she lazily rose to her feet and dragged her body to her door to open it up.
“Adele, are you alright?” Wendy asked the moment the door was open. Adele didn’t respond, she just turned around and dragged herself back to her seat.
The two girls walked into the office and took the seats before her.
“What’s going on?” Linda asked.
“Nothing much.” She lied.
None of them knew she was married and she didn’t want them to know, so she could not tell them she was having marital issues.
“That’s a very fat lie!” Wendy debunked. “You know you can tell us anything. Are you having issues with your boyfriend?” She asked and Adele was tempted to laugh, but she did not. Instead, she nodded her head and sighed.
“Yea, I am.” She lied. “My boyfriend and I are going through something right now. Something I do not want to talk about.” She stressed giving them stern looks in case they wanted to ask questions about the issue.
“I understand the fact that you don’t want to talk about the issue. I mean, it’s your private life, but love, you don’t have to kill yourself. The guy isn’t even your husband yet and are you sure he’s taking the issue as serious as you are? What I mean is, are you sure he’s letting himself wallow in depression over this issue? If you’d ask me, I’d I don’t think he is, so cut yourself some slack!”Linda advised and Adele leaned in the backrest of her chair.
Linda had said two things, one wrong and one correct.
The wrong one was that Jamal was her husband already and the right was that he wasn’t bothered about that issue as much as she was. That’s if at all he was bothered in the first place.
“You are right Linda, I need to cut myself some slack. You guys had lunch already?” She asked looking at the two girls and they were shocked by how much her sour mood had lightened up already.
“Not yet.”
“Cool. Let’s go have lunch at Monteplaza.”
“Monteplaza!” Wendy screamed in shock. “Do you know a meal there costs more than our monthly salaries?” She asked in horror and Adele just smiled as she opened a drawer of her table and took out Jamal’s Master card from it, making sure to slide it into her purse before they could notice.
“I’m aware of that.” She replied as she closed her purse and looked up at them. “Don’t bother, my boyfriend’s credit card got us covered. Let’s get going.” She said and rose to her feet and the girls did the same.
“Is your boyfriend a government official?” Wendy asked curiously as they headed out of the office. Adele just smiled and walked on.
“Is he a rich old man?” Linda added.
“Linda!” Adele called and laughed. “Of course not!”
“Then tell us what he does!” They both screamed in unison. Adele stopped walking and turned to look at them.
“He’s a very young, handsome and successful businessman. Happy now?” She asked with a raised brow.
“Well, there are many young, handsome, successful businessmen in the city. Which of them is he?”
“Not saying!”
“Pretty pleaaaaase.” Wendy begged as they walked on.
“Not a chance Wendy.”
“Is it Tyler Jonas?” Linda asked.
“Terrence Miles?” Wendy asked as well but Adele shook her head.
They were now at the parking lot, standing in front of Adele’s car.
“Girls.” She called and turned to face them. ” I love you both so much and trust me when I say I want you to tell you everything, but the truth is, I can’t and I won’t. So don’t push it. You are never getting that name out of me.” She explained and their shoulders sagged in disappointment. “Now hop in let’s get going, we have barely one hour left for lunch time.” She said and they all got into the car.
The girls respectfully dismissed the topic and began talking about the delicious meals served at the Five Star restaurant.
Adele wanted to tell them everything about Jamal, but she knew she could not. She had been forbidden to do so.
