CHAPTER SIXTEEN.
“You are Welcome, Mrs. King.” Kain, the butler greeted as he took Adele’s winter coat.
“Thank you very much, Kain.” She responded with a sweet smile before heading for the staircase. All she wanted at that moment was to go into her bedroom and have a long rest. She had had a very hectic day at the office and barely had anything to eat as well.
Her plans however, were ruined when she heard the voice of her mother in law calling her name.
“Adele!” Her name came through again and she stopped on her tracks and rolled her eyes hard before turning to face the woman who was calling her like she was deaf.
“Yes mother. Good afternoon.”
“Keep your stinking greeting to yourself!” Aliya retorted bitterly. At that moment, Adele was confused because she had no idea what she had done to make the woman so furious. “How dare you!”
“I… I don’t think I understand.”
“You published an article today about a very good friend of mine and it was shown in the news. Do you have any idea how much you have ruined an innocent person’s life?” She began ranting and Adele immediately understood who she was talking about. She let out an exasperated sigh and focused her gaze on the woman who was fuming before her.
“If you are talking about Mrs. Emily Cole, then I think you are wrong when you say she is innocent. That woman owns a brothel where she forces desperate underage girls to get involved in illegal sexual activities. I investigated this issue properly before publishing and if it made the national news, that only proved it’s not a made up story!” Adele tried to explain but her mother-in-law was not convinced.
“You know nothing Adele.”
“No mum. I’m not ignorant. Your friend was a sex trafficker and she deserves to be punished by the law!” Adele stood her ground.
“You are nothing but poor and ignorant!” She blasted on and Adele could feel bile rising in her stomach.
Her words were harsh
“Aliya!” A voice called from the door and both women turned to see who it was. Adele was startled to see both Jamal and his father standing before them.
Both Jamal and his father had arrived at the mansion and had been observing their quarrel silently.
“You don’t have to use such vulgar words to
describe your daughter in-law, you made your point
clear already. There’s no need to disgrace her.” He cautioned.
Adele, the one who was called ignorant for just
doing her job properly, was about to lose her calm and
call her the ugliest of things as well as to showcase how
ignorant she could be, caring less about the fact that her husband and father-in-law were present when Jamal calmly raised his palm before her, urging her not to say a word. She obeyed and stayed quiet and he came to stand beside her, facing his mother.
“Is this how you treat my family in my absence? By calling her Poor and ignorant?” He asked calmly, with creased brows and his mother even got more enraged with his question.
“Who are you calling your family? This ridiculous girl?
Well then you better educate your wife and remind
her that she’s living in my house and she better
respect my friends in the future because next time I’m going to do more than just talk. I’m going to send her out of this house.” Aliya shouted at the top of her voice.
“Are you sure you dare to threaten her in my presence?” Jamal asked as if he wasn’t addressing his own
mother, but as if he was speaking with a bug he
wanted to stump upon.
Aliya was rendered speechless and so was his father. They both looked at him with their faces turning grey.
As if that wasn’t enough to scare them to the bone, he further added:
“Don’t be too sure about being the owner of this place. Pretty soon, you will be living under her roof.” He said pointing at Adele and she felt awkward. “Pretty soon you will be eating my money, I will take over everything you’re standing on.”
At that time Adele thought he was so bold to mention
that he was the successor in front of the man who
could simply disown him and leave him with nothing.
She quietly slinged her hands around his left arm and began dragging him away. She was getting uncomfortable with how rudely he was talking to his parents.

“Jamal, you can’t talk like that to your parents.” Adele cautioned once they were in their bedroom.
“And my mum can’t talk to you like that either!”
“I’ve told you this time and again, I can handle your mum. I don’t want you losing your heritage because of me!”
“Losing my heritage ? What do you mean by that?”
“You just said something out there that could push your father into making a decision you will not like. I don’t want you losing anything because of me!” Adele explained and Jamal could see in her eyes that she was truly worried for him and it warmed his heart.
He was happy to know that his wife cared for him despite the fact that he was everything but a good husband to her.
“Adele.” He called in a quiet tone as he made his way towards her. “You truly have no idea what’s going on in this family and I don’t want you to know until everything is over. I meant every word I said down dare. One day, you will be the owner of this home. That I swear.”
“Jamal I…” she started to protest but Jamal cut her off by connecting their lips together and kissing her passionately. Her mouth tasted as sweet as ever. Her lips were the fullest he had ever touched. It made kissing her incredibly satisfying.
When he broke the kiss, they both stayed silent in each other’s arms and their hearts were beating abnormally.
“Adele, I could kiss you all day without getting tired, but god! I want to do just more than that.” He whispered in a husky voice and Adele’s heart almost hopped out of her chest. She swallowed dryly as she looked deep into his searching eyes.
They were a married couple and sex was bound to happen. She had known the day would come when Jamal would ask her for sex and she had been preparing her mind for that day.
She had never been touched by a man before and from what she had heard, first time sex was painful. However, she wasn’t scared, because she trusted Jamal to handle her with care.
“We’ve not had dinner yet.” She replied in a whisper.
“Are you hungry?” Jamal asked.
“No, I’m not,” she lied. She was hungry, but she was more curious and anxious to have her first night with Jamal.
“Me neither.”
“I have to shower tho. I don’t feel very fresh. Let’s shower before riding on.”
“Sounds like a great idea.” He said and kissed her briefly before heading to the closet.
