Jiang Youyou went quickly to the door. Dai Jingcheng grabbed her arm and said, “I’ll go with you.”
Wu Zhengmei began to speak, “Jingcheng, won’t you think about it again?”
“No. Unnecessary. I have thought long and hard. You can give me a phone call after you think twice.” Dai Jingcheng went out without turning back.
A tall strong man stopped the two at the gate.
Dai Hui looked at them, shook his head and waved to let go.
Jiang Youyou raised her head to look at the man. He let go of his hand.
Dai Jingcheng turned back, snorted, and followed Jiang Youyou forward out of the villa. When they got to the bus station, the silent Jiang Youyou began to speak, “Eh, I say, so things happened like this. You actually just wanted to use me to make your parents angry, to provoke them in revenge for their arranging your life step by step in so many year, didn’t you? If this is true, I guess it’s really unnecessary of you to fall out with your parents who gave birth to you and brought you up with every effort for a girl of little importance like me. You must know that in this world only your parents’ love is truest and most sincere.”
Seeing her so considerate, Dai Jingcheng sighed emotionally. “Though you have no parents, you have freedom at least. You don’t know what kind of life I have lived since my childhood-no friends nor playmates. Later they even didn’t allow me to study in the school but got me a home tutor. Sometimes I was left alone at home, having nothing but a roomful toys and books. They said had China’s education system is exam-oriented which can cultivate no talents, and that was the reason they sent me away alone abroad. At first I didn’t have the ability to live on my own and had to be scoffed by others. When I came back, they again asked me to work at Engineering Department of OSY, I obeyed. But now they go even farther to assign me to date with a certain girl of a rich family. I really can’t stand it. Dai Jingcheng closed his eyes in pain, as if he was recalling the past unhappiness. “It’s true that I like you, but I brought you home today only because I feel unfair. For what reason should my parents hide a lot from me, while I must be required to obey them with everything. I’ve now been an adult, why should I be as obedient as a small boy?”
Jiang Youyou took quite a while to comfort him.
The bus came. It was packed out. Jiang Youyou saw two passengers were getting off and two seats were emptied. It was a long way to go from Dameisha to the suburb, it would be a real hard journey if you couldn’t be seated.
She was anxious that someone else would occupy the seats, so she just threw her handbag into the vacancies.
“Hah hah! We have seats!” Jiang Youyou took hold Dai Jingcheng by the hand and went to the seats proudly.
“So you can see I don’t know how to do such things.” Dai Jingcheng seemed to be still in the mood to vent.
Jiang Youyoy casually asked, “Who was the man in black stopping us just now? he looked vicious.”
“Oh, he is Arquan, my father’s driver and bodyguard. He was once a special force soldier. He is tough and bad tempered. Don’t mess with him.” Dai Jingcheng answered.
He looked familiar, familiar, familiar.
Where, where have I met you? However it was certain enough not to meet him in the dream. Jiang Youyou couldn’t remember even if she had though so hard into a headache.
When the bus arrived the urban area, Dai Jingcheng wanted to get off halfway for fear that Jiang Youyou would feel hungry. He was going to find a restaurant to have some food first.
“I’m going to the supermarket for some supplements first. What about cooking and eating at home?” Jiang Youyou suggested.
“OK. That’s just what I wish for. In fact you’re very good at cooking now. Especially soybean-pasted noodles you cooked are much better than those cooked in outside cafes. I wish I can have it all my life.” Dai Jingcheng felt better again.
“Why didn’t you tell me that your family is so rich previously?” Jiang Youyou had never seen him driving. He seldom took a taxi, either.
“Did you think the rich men must be high-profile figures, as is described in the novels, pasting bills on their cheeks?” Dai Jingcheng laughed.
“At least you should drive a Mercedes Benz sports car, wear suits of famous brand and chase after beautiful girls.” Jiang Youyou was only teasing.
They have bought a pile of things. With all the walking she felt her feet sore. Was it because there were sores on her feet?
Just then they saw a coffee shop for a rest. It was dark already, the fragrance of coffee and toast reminded the shoppers it was time for dinner.
Jiang Youyou looked casually out of the window of the coffee shop.
A scene suddenly flashed through her mind.
Dai’s father’s driver and bodyguard, was he…?
Yes, he was. He was Zhao Huixin’s boyfriend, the man with a pair of sunglasses and a bag of milk powder. Jiang Youyou said loudly.
Dai Jingcheng felt odd. “What has my father’s bodyguard got to do with an administrative clerk of our company?”
“What has he got to do? Just have him here to ask about it. Can things be all clear with his answer?” Jiang Youyou said.
Dai Jingcheng made him a call, asked him to come but at the same time told him not to have his parents known about it. In half an hour, Arquan entered the coffee shop.
Jiang Youyou’s straightforward questioning tome made Arquan a bit unhappy. “Who are you and what right do you have to ask me telling these things to you? The woman was indeed my girlfriend. And I’m free to decide whether I want that child or not.”
Dai Jingcheng cast him a glance. “You’re lying.”
Dai Jingcheng had watched an American TV play “Lie to Me”. When answering the question, a guilty look flashed across his face and a fearful expression as well. What did he fear about?
“Are you afraid that you will lose your job if you tell the truth? I ensure you that I’m not going to tell anyone about it.” Dai Jingcheng sincerely promised. “But if you refuse to tell, you may lose your job tomorrow.
“Will you keep it secret for me?” Arquan was a bit nevous.
“Of course we will.” Jiang Youyou nodded their promise. “We can make you a written statement.”
Arquan finished the whole cup of coffee in one go and began to talk about the whole thing: “In fact I didn’t know why Zhao Huixin would appear in your home, being in the family way. Do you still remember that time when Mrs Dai, your mother, traveled with you to Hainan, but on the way Mr. Dai had a sudden spasm of the heart?
Dai Jingcheng nodded. His father was indeed sick at that time, but he persuaded him and his mother went on the tour. Now it turned out that his father pretended to be sick.
Arquan continued, “Mr. Dai got on my car and told me to go back immediately. I asked him why we didn’t go to the hospital, and he said there was an important guest waiting at home. When we were home, we saw a girl, with no makeup, who looked quite pretty and clean. Knowing my own place, I went out. When I shut the door, I heard the girl yelled to say ‘Why should you not to recognize your own child! You are the last one to have sex with me!’ And then a cry was heard. I dared not to go on listening and I thought it unnecessary. Anyway, there was no good for someone to know too much about other’s secrets.” Saying this, Arquan took a look at Jiang Youyou.
“After that there were several times that Mr. Dai had me to buy milk powder for her. As to what had happened later, I don’t know. The fact is since then she no longer came. Each time after I accompanied her to buy milk powder, I only saw her off downstairs. The only thing she would do was to repeated ask why Mr. Dai hadn’t come yet.”
“She had died.: Jiang Youyou said with endless sadness. “You can go now. it’s now no use to talk about all these.”
Dai Jingcheng was dumbfounded on hearing all the story. His father? With Zhao Huixin?
What was wrong anyway? Zhao Huixin looked quite normal in her physical appearance, but one could always feel that she was a little jumpy. How could she had such relations with his parents?
Arquan left, leaving the two gazing at one another.
“We have to find out the truth.” Jiang Youyou clenched her fists, intangibly she felt the whole story was not as simple as an extramarital affair.
