I woke up early to get ready for today, somehow I felt like today is the beginning of something good in my life. The beginning of a new phase, new hopes, and new dreams and I don’t want to thread it for anything
My unborn child is looking up to me, Mrs. Kathrine is praying day and night for me to be successful, I can’t have my revenge on Robert if I’m not rich and powerful, that’s why I don’t need mistakes, not now when the heaven is starting to smile at me.
It’s still five in the morning, I was done cleaning and tidying the house, I walk to the fridge and brought out the leftover from yesterday, I need to warm them for breakfast,
I wanted to walk to the gas cooker when suddenly I felt dizzy, the whole place started going in circle, I tried hard to steady my steps but I couldn’t, the plate of food fell from my hand and splashed all over the floor
“Ahhh….!.” I hissed in pain as the dizziness increased, I held onto my head with my right hand while I use my left hand to hold the counter supporting my weight
For minutes I stood still.. l trying to calm my system
“Who’s there? ” I heard Mrs. Kathrine’s voice but I couldn’t answer her,
“Oh dear, what happened to you?” She rushed inside the kitchen and hurried to my side
“Are you okay, when did you wake up, tell me what happened to you?” She bombarded me with a series of question
I suddenly smile and turned towards her,
“I’m perfectly fine Mrs. Kathrine just felt a little bit dizzy”
“Come on dear, that wasn’t a little look at the whole floor, it was splashed with food. By the way, why are you up this early morning?”
“Don’t tell me you forgot today’s my first day at my place of work”
“No, I didn’t forget, was that the reason why you’re up too early?”
I sighed calmly although I feel okay but I still feel a little bit dizzy, but I can’t show that in front of Mrs. Katherine, she’ll only get more worried.
I took her two hands and held onto them tightly, looking into her mother’s eyes, I whispered
“Finally fate has smiled on us, this is the beginning of a new chapter in our lives ma, after a series of rejections from many places, god smiled on me at my lowest when I least expected it, god came through for me, for my unborn child for us, we’ll no longer depend on the money you saved Mrs. Kathrine, my job will support us too”
“But my dear you’re pregnant”
“Yes Mrs. Kathrine I’m pregnant not handicapped, so stop treating me like I’m one”
“Oh no dear I didn’t mean for you to see it that way”
I smile and caress her cheeks lovingly
“I understand Mrs. Kathrine, trust me I understand you care for me and I appreciate”
“It’s okay, you should go prepare for work I’ll take it up from ”
“Alright…” I smiled and left the kitchen.
I walk into the bathroom and strip off my clothes, smile forms all over my face as I look down at my baby bump which is becoming more visible, my boobs are now rounder and fuller,
Slowly I circled my arms around my tummy,
“Just wait a little more longer, mumy is going to give you the best life in the world”
I didn’t know tears were already dripping down my cheeks till I saw one drop on my tummy
Remembering that today is my first day at work, I switch on the shower immediately and allowed the water splash all over my body
Minutes later I was already out of the shower, I wrapped a towel around my body before coming out of the bathroom, I dried my body with one of the towels hanging on the hanger after which I used the hand dryer to blow dry my hair.
I applied the cream that Mrs Kathrine got for me, I brush my hair and massage some oil underneath my scalp
I walk to my closet and pick one of the gowns that Mrs. Kathrine also got for me, minutes later I am done and now ready to leave. I look at the time and I still have like forty minutes left.
I left my room and saw Mrs. Kathrine setting the food on the dining
“Are you ready?”
“Yes ” I smiled sitting down, I gulped down the whole cup of tea and finish my slice of bread in a go
“Easy so you don’t choke on your , f ood”, Mrs. Kathrine said to me, I look at the time gasp in shock
I stood up immediately and took my bag
“Why are you in a rush?”
I halted on my step and turn to Mrs. Kathrine,
“Take care I got to go”
“But……”
“Bye…….!” I screamed running out of the house,
I hurried down the street and a sigh when I saw the mad traffic on the road, it’s still early in the morning and I didn’t expect the city of Mexico to be this chaos
I look at my wristwatch and a sigh left my lips I only have twenty minutes left, I look at the road and the traffic doesn’t seem like what will clear soon
I imagined the distance I’ll trek and I had no choice but to trek, it wasn’t easy especially when the whole place of filled with different people going about their different business
I should have expected this, I mean not every place will be like New York City. I kept bumping into people, the road is filled with different cars lined up, and the little space left is where pedestrians walked on, that’s why we bump and collide with different people
I was already five minutes late, when I arrived at the bar panting like someone who ran a marathon, I walked into the bar and was surprised to see the whole place filled up with walkers and customers,
That moment I knew I was in deep trouble, remembering the boss’s mean voice when she was telling me never to arrive late, I already bade myself good riddance
I did a finger cross, after saying a short prayer inwardly, people were starting to stare at me awkwardly
I sighted the guy that helped me yesterday, he was counting the wines in the bar, I walked toward him
“Hi” I greeted
“You’re late, seems you don’t want the job after all” He shook his head facing his work
“It’s not like that actually was caught in traffic”
“You shouldn’t be explaining to me, the boss is inside” He muttered, not sparing me a glance, making me wonder what his problem is…
“Ohh okay….” I replied and started walking to the boss office, I stood before her door, I could hear her angry voice, lashing and cursing at whom I don’t know, I know done for…..
“Does this place look like a playground, how dare you play with your job Cassie?!” I presumed that whoever is getting this earfull is definitely the Cassie
I mean if she could shout at her workers like this, what about me that just arrived?
“The more time you spend here, the late it becomes hurry and go in” My subconscious advice, I did a breath in and out before slowly
I walk to the door and knocked, at first I heard nothing, but I decide to try again
“Who the hell is trying to pull my four down, get the fuck in…..!”
I gulped down the saliva I never know was hanging on my throat
I pulled the doorknob and entered, I was facing the floor, I don’t want to meet her angry gaze especially not today
” What’s the time?” I heard but didn’t dare to look up
“I fucking ask a question, what’s the damn time…..!” I heard her yelling followed by a bang on the table
I shivered and staggered back in fear,
“Look at me when I’m asking a question…!” That moment I knew I was the new victim, with slow motion I look up and gasp
“Ahhhh….” I shivered in fear seeing her dangerous gaze
“What’s the time?” She ask calmly like she’s holding back something, the girl that stood beside me looked terrified too
“Ma the traffic was so bad trust me ma, I didn’t mean it”
“Young lady, it’s your first day at my bar, you’re supposed to leave a good impression, do you think I run my bar, pitting people?
This is business, not a charity home”
“But ma……”
“You’re fired” She smile viciously
“Nooo……!” I screamed falling on my knees, I remembered how it took me to get here, the sufferings and everything no….. I’m not letting this happen
“Ma please I promise to do anything you say please don’t fire me” I pleaded while on my knees
“Anything……?” She drawer smiling in a cocky manner
“Yes ma, anything to have this job”
“Then be a stripper in my bar for seven days, after then I’ll allow you to have this job permanently, and don’t worry you’ll only strip at night, not during the day, you see my bar needs more entertainment, and with this gorgeous body of your I believe my bar will come to limelight in a short while, plus I’ll pay you half the money you earn from the stripping, remember you’re pregnant and your baby depends on you…. think about it…. think…”
“But ma….”
“Strip or leave, the ball is in your court,” She said with finality going back to her work
I sighed deeply, I look down at my baby bump, remembering all I’ve been through, the pains from my husband, how I promised myself to be richer and come back better and braver for my revenge,
I remembered all the struggles and pains that I’ve been through, the kidnap, the application, and going to prison. I remember Mrs. Kathrine that’s at home, how she’ll feel disappointed knowing I lost the job
And most importantly my baby, I promise to do anything to give my unborn baby a better life,
I caress my tummy lovingly
“My dear child, I’m gonna rock you, moma got your back, I don’t care if I strip to clothe you, I’ll go to any extent to protect you. Moma loves you
I look up and saw the boss looking and waiting for my answer
” I accept your offer”
