The phone was ringing again and she already guessed who it was, her father. The man had been calling for a while now and the last time she took the call, it was to ask her where she was and what was keeping her out. Claire told him that her friend was really ill and at the hospital. The old man did not seem all the way fond of what she was saying. He wanted her home that very instant. That apparently was an hour ago and his patience was obviously wearing off. He called her two more times and that was it. Claire did not want to believe she was in trouble. That should be impossible as they were not all fun and cozy. Certainly he would not want to jeopardize the good relationship he was trying to establish with her.
“Shouldn’t you be taking that?,” Jake’s mother asked her.
Earlier Jake had gone to see the doctor and was yet to return leaving the both of them together. The woman had enjoyed the meal they made saying it was a meal of love hence the deliciousness. Claire did not want to think anything to what the woman had said hoping she might be actually plain. However, it was clear she liked the girl together and the thought she had assisted her son was giving her something to look forward to. Claire told her it was nothing important and lied it was her friend from work. However work that day was over and they could talk work matters the next day. Of course it was obvious she was lying but there was no way of beating the truth out of her. The woman agreed and just then, Jake entered wearing a smile on his face. Everyone looked at him.
“What happened Jake?,” Claire asked
“Yes son, you seem excited,” his mother said
“Not what happened but what will happen. Mom can come home tomorrow.” he said.
Sincerely speaking, Claire was happy for her but his mother was not. She pretended to smile as she started thinking about what she would do. She being away was giving the youngsters some bonding time and that was making her really happy. She had to stay away if she really wanted them to end up together. She had never seen her son glow so much in a long time or smile the way he had been smiling when he walked inside with Claire close to him. It was almost like he had been touched by a an angel. She thought carefully and an idea sprang up. She would act really sick the next day or weak rather, then when alone talk to the doctor about her staying for a while longer. Certainly he would not deny her an extra couple of days for bed rest. Claire was the perfect match for her son and she was going to do all she can before kicking the bucket to make certain she hitched the both of them together.
They stayed a little more until Claire thought it appropriate to begin going home. Her phone had stopped ringing and a part of her was telling her that she was in serious trouble. She told Jake she would be heading out and the latter told her he would drop her off to which Claire politely refused. She would go home herself and would find a cab. It was no biggie. His mother was also not in support but tried not to force the girl least her ulterior motives be brought to light. Jake would see her off and put her in a cab and he would keep checking on her to make certain she was safe. Claire teased about them treating her like a baby as she grabbed her jacket and bade his mother good bye. She added that she would be looking forward to her coming home the next day and she promised to fix her something really delicious. The woman smiled and told her she would be looking forward to it too. As the duo left, she could not help but notice how perfectly they fitted each other. See here home, that was not happening. It was time to begin putting her plan in motion as she laid back down and closed her eyes. If only she could also draw out a fever, she wished sincerely.
The way they had been caring about her made Claire wonder if this was what it felt like to be loved by one’s family. Jake had seen her out and then found her a cab. He really wanted to drop her off but Claire would not hear of it. In her words, he had to be there by his mother’s side if he wanted her to be happy. He understood, paid her fare and stood there watching until they were out of sight before heading back inside. He had seen a familiar car follow her cab but thought nothing much about it. It could be anyone and this was a free road after all.
Yes, it is just as you guessed. Tristan Jenkins had been at the hospital to pick up pain killers that night with his hoodie drawn up to prevent attention. He was surprised when he saw Claire walking out the door with the very guy he disliked seeing close to her. So it seemed that Miss Willows did have a boyfriend and was hiding something. He was actually not planning on following her initially but when he saw the young man waving at her taxi, he was compelled to follow. He had to make sure she was safe before going back home. Not like he really cared about it but pretty boy had forgotten how late it was and why he should have driven her home. That was so careless and Tristan had a really hard time stopping himself from getting down and dealing him a punch. This was so unlike him and he knew very well that he would usually not do this for a woman. Perhaps it was because she was his employee.
He saw her get down from the cab but fought down the urge to follow her home. He did not want her to know he was there or had seen her but someday he would punish her for putting him through so much pain. As she turned to head down her street which he had discovered was close to his, he took out his phone and dialed her line. The phone was probably ringing but she made no attempt to take it out. He redialed again and this time, she took it out and then put it to her ear. Tristan smiled, his plan was to keep talking to her on phone until her was sure she was home. That way, if anything should happen, he would rush over to save her. He had already parked his car somewhere close.
Her pretty voice came as she said hello to him. He asked where she was and Claire said she was close home. When he wanted knowing why she was out there at night by such odd hour, she said she had gone for a walk. His face became red with anger. If there was anything Tristan disliked more, it was lies. It would be much better to tell him the truth even if it would hurt him or get you in trouble with him than tell a lie. He fought off hanging up the call but forgot to say anything which was when she asked if there was anything she could do for him. Tristan found his voice instantly and told her he just wanted her to tell him what her first experience working at his home felt like. He wanted her to describe it to him. She began talking but he was barely listening or hearing her. He only knew she was talking on phone but his thoughts were wrapped around ways he wanted so badly to punish her and make her see that it was wrong trifling with someone like him.
He continued listening to her and she talked until she started calling him to know if he was still there. Tristan snapped out of his thoughts to ask her to continue as he was listening. That was weird because she was done explaining. He chuckled and said he was hoping she would say more. She seemed to have stopped walking and a door bell rang. She was home obviously. He told her he would see her the next day then and hung up without another word. As he dropped his phone, Tristan punched his car wheel. What was it with women and telling lies. He had seen her with that guy. He started his car and angrily drove home. Seems she was not the all too naive woman he thought her to be. She was a player and he loved playing games as well. He was going to play her so bad that she would be left in broken pieces when he finishes with her.
As he got in, Alfredo informed him that his food was ready. Tristan thought that maybe he would get calm after eating as he was serious craving alcohol which he might not be allowed to take in the amounts he wanted not to mention his favourite brands were out of it. He went to sit as the food was brought over. One taste and he picked up his tissue to spit it out. He turned to Alfredo who looked confused.
“Fire the cook.” Tristan said
“But sir…,” the old man began
“You heard me.” Tristan said and without another word, walked out of the place to his bedroom.
As he moved, he knew one thing which was that the food was not his problem. It was Claire actually but he cared less. He could fire anyone he wanted at anytime after all.
