Chapter 38

Book:Undaunted Published:2024-5-1

Miss Willows this; Miss Willows that. Claire was becoming tired or dare I saw wanting for something more she could not explain. There he was right in front of her asking if she was afraid of him. Damn well Claire knew she was afraid but not in the way he might be thinking. She was afraid of other things, things he would do to her and things she dared not think of. She had been expecting the usual it was not what I intended kind of apology but here he was, a couple of inches away from her face. No, a couple of inches away from her lips and truth be told, all Claire wanted was for him to reach closer and deal her another kiss. She dared not ask for that but he was watching her as a lion watched it’s prey before daring to pounce on it. He wanted more than an answer and Claire did so as well.
Sincerely speaking, all she wanted was to lean closer to that face of his and get another taste of the very first man she had been intimate with. He was really something. However, Claire could discern right from wrong at the moment or probably her lack of male experience was acting on the positive aspect which had to do a lot with holding her back from daring to act wild. There was no acting wild with her knowing well enough that he was her boss. Whatever thoughts she had in that head of hers was never going to be acted on as he himself would not accept it. He was testing her, it had to be just that. Claire kept telling herself whatever it was she wanted to believe. Tristan Jenkins however was waiting for an answer and she had to say something to him.
“Um… I’m not… I’m not scared of you sir. I’m just…. I’m just…,” she had begun stuttering and it was not helping that he leant closer
“You’re just what?,” he asked her
“I’m just finding it… sorry… I just want to…,” she could not say it.
Claire reckoned that neither of the answers seemed to be coming forth. They were all there, what she wanted to say to him. All in her head or rather minds to eye as her head was wrapped around another cloud of it’s own. It was screaming for her to dare kiss him. Claire thought further, should she kiss him then what next, he gets really angry and sacks her on grounds of seduction. Danielle was probably right, he was stressed the previous day and was trying to right his wrong.
“What is the problem Miss Willows?,” he asked her.
Claire blinked. The scent of him just close to her nose was really something. It was mint and it was drawing her to dare whatever devil was asking her to go crazy. Claire sighed, she really was messed up.
“No sir. I’m not scared of you.” she said finally gathering up morale
“But?,” he asked her.
What about that, Claire wondered. She ever agrees that there was something and she would never live as off the tale. It was bad enough he had deducted from her salary for the month. Acting all dumb was she begging him to make more deductions. Something she certainly would not be able to live through. She sighed and called herself a weak woman to be preyed on as such.
“No sir. There’s no buts.” she managed to say admist greater effort than she had expected. It was all too much on her, the kiss and now him refusing to move away. She was finding it inviting as well as uncomfortable. Why was this man hell bent on making her miserable. He suddenly smiled and tapped her shoulders saying it was a good thing she was not scared based on what she said. What does he mean by based on what she said, Claire wondered as she watched him walk over to his seat. He took his seat and began looking her over before asking if she was aware that she was late. Claire gulped but found that her throat was rather dry as she had been swallowing all along he was with her on the face-to-face level. This man was no human absolutely.
She walked closer when he nodded his head to stand before him. He held his pen professional style as he looked her over. This was something Claire was feeling rather uncomfortable about as he played the pen in his hand. She decided not to wait for him to lash out at her and began running through an unplanned explanation full of apologies why she had come late. She was not going to let it happen again but when he seemed to be saying nothing, Claire closed her mouth. She could tell he was either studying her or picking at her words which ones he would be using against her.
He could tell she was afraid of him but could not understand what reasons were behind that feeling of hers. There was something really about this lady that kept endearing her to him. Something that spelt doom yet he was willing to fall for it. He told her he had heard all she was saying but still, she was in trouble with him. Claire’s eyes widened. He nodded slowly saying he meant every word he said to her. She had resigned to whatever fate awaits her and he could tell as she shrugged weakly. He smiled, he needed an avenue to woo her and asked if she was certain she could take whatever becomes the consequences of her actions. She did not look up at him but nodded her head. He smiled devilishly, a wicked idea playing across his mind.
“What do you think of working for me Miss Willows?,” he asked her.
Claire could not understand what he was beating at.
“But I am working for you sir,” she said softly
“Yes and no. You are working for me at the business sector, what would you think of working for me at home?,” he said
“Sir?,” she asked rather softly or shyly
“There could be a raise and you can come as late as you want?,” he asked her
“What would I be doing for you then sir?,” she asked
“Well let’s just say you clean my house alongside the cook and other workers. My house here in town,” he said.
This was rather shocking. What on earth was he trying to tempt her with. She gets to work at her crush’s place and come whenever she likes, that was enticing but not enticing enough for her to answer hastily. Claire had put on her thinking cap. It was a mouth watering offer she had not expected would be thrown at her but also dangerous thanks to that awkward kiss. But then certainly he would be coming to work, no time to prey on her innocent lips. Claire needed time to think about it before she makes a rather rash decision that would affect her in future.
“Do I get time to think about it sir?,” she asked ever so timidly
“Of course yes. Certainly you do but it’s an open ended offer. Anyone could get it including Danielle.” Tristan said.
Come on do not blame him for being a player. Tristan Jenkins knew what he was playing at and it was all about circling his game until he won the prize. Claire had proven herself the most naive of women he had ever come across which goes a long way to tell him she would take the offer. He saw her reaction when he mentioned her friend’s name and did a mental laugh. It was only to instigate urgency in her decision. She nodded slowly and knowingly before asking if she could be excused. Of course, he was done with her and asked her to go about her duties. Tristan watched her smiling inside of him all the more dubiously. She had no experience which would make certain she comes back. He had just bent over his work load when his phone started ringing. Whoever that was, Tristan thought as he peered into the screen. That was not a number he could recognize. He could not tell who it was and decided to pick it.
“Tristy darling!!!,” the lady said from the other end.
Tristan frowned that instant. There was ever so one bothersome person that would dare call him that respite the fact he did not take the endearment lightly.
“Hello Janet.” he said coldly to the actress.
He had come into romp with so many movie stars that all played maturely but this one was really something. She was one big psychopath that had refused to let him be. He had been doing all he could to get her off his neck which of course she was aware of. She was a snake really and guess what, her father headed one of the firms he was working with to take up something. It had been really hard on him as he was stuck on her. The project was to commence in two months, a place he had been trying to acquire as one of his. There was no way he would upset daddy’s girl especially the one who had idea of why he was close to her daddy.
“I saw your photo, you’re in Norman?,” she asked him
“Yes I am.” Tristan said without emotion hoping she would go away already
“Well I do have a movie shoot there in about two weeks and you know what it is with me and hotels,” she said
“Go straight to the point Janet.” he said
“Can I put up with you for a bit?,” she asked him
“What gives you the idea I’m not in an hotel myself?,” he asked her
“Look online.” she said.
