He sat at his usual VIP corner in the boisterous bar as he drank from his bottle of expensive scotch. He was seated alone, watching the different people that crowded the bar on a midweek dance to low and sensual music that blared from the speakers.
After his meeting with Lucas had ended, he had stayed back at the office to sort out some things before going over to the bar. The bar was somewhere he visited frequently though he didn’t really go to drink. He wasn’t much of a drinker, he just went there to ease some pressure and boredom of staying at home alone.
Karen walked into the bar with Ciara and they both went to the VIP section. Ciara had forced her to go today. She was a big PR staff in one of the major companies in the whole of California so she was financially capable of taking care of herself. Not filthy rich, but enough to send some dollars carelessly. Ciara dragged her as they both walked to the VIP section and took an empty table. She was dressed in a short black gown that opened largely at the back, exposing her bare back. Her hair was tied to a bun with mild makeup on her face. She had the appearance of a goddess under the lightening of the bar.
“Sit here while I go get us drinks.” Ciara ordered, leaving her to sit alone while she went to the drink bar to get the drinks. Karen sat on the chair alone, she took out her phone and scrolled through it mindlessly. She was getting bored sitting alone. The whole bar was buzzing and boisterous and it wasn’t where she wanted to be on a Wednesday night.
She raised her head from the phone and raked her eyes through the bar. There were many people that she didn’t know and didn’t want to know. Most of them were rich men, drugs lord, normal fun-seeking young people, or other criminals. She was almost turning back to her phone when her eyes caught the not too familiar figure of Jack sitting at one corner. He was seated alone, a bottle of drink in front of him while he worked on his phone. She sat back and stared at him to check if he was with someone but after staring for more than two minutes and no one showed up, she concluded he was alone.
“Time to kick off my plans.” She muttered to herself and got up. She walked over to his table and dropped down on the empty seat beside him.
“Hi” she greeted timidly. All the confidence she had grown while moving from her table disappeared as she sat uninvited at the same table with the rich snobbish billionaire. He raised his head from the phone and looked at her. His eyes darken as he stared deeply at her. She shifted her eyes from his face and stared at the floor.
“Did I invite you here?” he asked rudely, still staring at her, trying to decipher her reason for meeting up with him. He had immediately recognized her immediately he set his eyes on her. She looked as beautiful as the image he had of her in his mind. Her short black gown did nothing to hide her multiple curves as her sexy figure was all out on display.
“No. I was just seated around there so I decided to come say hi.” She explained, pointing to where she was previously seated.
“Why are you here?” he asked again, this time more aggressively. He was finding it hard to break eye contact with her though she had looked away but every time she brought her eyes to share at his face, she caught him still staring at her and it was getting weird for her.
“Nothing” she responded, fiddling with her hands. Her palms had already gotten sweaty due to how uncomfortable she felt.
“If you are here because of what went down between us days back, then you shouldn’t be here. it was purely business. Hope you saw the check I dropped.” He questioned and she felt a fast slash of pain hit her heart.
“It might have been business to you, but it wasn’t to me. if you wanted a whore, you could have easily picked one from the club.” She stated, a bit of anger in her tone. “Besides, I don’t need your money, I could return it if you need it.” she added, surprising him.
“Keep it.” He stated and she smiled to herself. She didn’t expect him to ask for the money. She knew how rich he was.
“I’m Karen.” She stated, taking her hand forward for a handshake. He stared from her face to her hand and back to her face.
“Okay” he simply replied and she dropped her hand in embarrassment.
“Next time, remind yourself not to try shaking hands with him.” She muttered, trying to warn herself.
“I guess I will see you around then.” She stated slowly and got up from the chair, returning to her previous position. He stared at her as she left, resisting the urge to have a proper conversation with her. Her presence had re-awakened the thoughts he had of her. After having sex with her, he had tried to push her to the back of his mind but it seemed impossible and very difficult. He looked at where she was seated and saw her seated with Ciara and another guy that was making obvious passes at her. He locked gaze with her and she waved at him with a big smile and he quickly returned his gaze back to his drink.
He gulped down the remainder of his drink before getting up. He eyed her one last time before walking out of the club.
It was now thirteen minutes past midnight and the club was still buzzing with life. She eyed him as he walked out of the bar club and she smiled. She had succeeded in starting a conversation with him, though he didn’t respond well, she was sure he was going to the next time they met.
She glared hard at the guy that was making passes at her. He was a young man that should be around thirty and from his dressing, he looked rich, but she wasn’t interested in him. “Fuck off” she mouthed at him, giving him a big glare before turning to Ciara.
“Would you drop me off?” she asked and Ciara nodded. They had come together in Ciara’s car after Ciara had gone to her house to pick her up at her house. They walked out f the club together, ignoring the calls from the guy who was hitting on her.
She woke up the next morning feeling more energetic than before. She did a few simple exercises involving squats, jogging, and a few others to keep fit before carrying out her chores.
Before ten AM, she was done with her chores and seated in front of her television screen with her phone and laptop in hand. She checked her email to see that a company had called her for an interview. She had seen the vacancy in a news publication and decided to apply though it wasn’t really her major. Her interview was scheduled for Tuesday of the following week meaning she had four days to prepare, including weekends. She squealed in happiness as she read through the mail. It was a good-paying job and if she could nail it, it could be for the better though it would take her out of Los Angeles. The company was located in san Diego. It was one of the biggest Sports companies and they had an opening for someone in the media department. She contemplated moving out of Los Angeles. Los Angeles was where she was born and lived since she grew up. It would be hard adjusting to a new city though it was literally in the same state.
She scoffed to herself. She hadn’t even gotten the job and she was already thinking ahead of herself. She had to get the job first.
