Today was Wednesday. He was seated in his office, behind his office, reviewing the partnership documents again. After they had rejected the initial agreement, he had gone back to review it and draft a new one. He had drafted a one-year partnership between the two companies to carry out a major project in which the profits were to be shared on a 65/35 basis. The partnership and equipment were funded by Jack’s company, hence the higher profit margin and it was outrageous when they had demanded an equal share. He still had a meeting with Zack holdings CEO later in the day. His secretary had booked a meeting for twelve noon.
He looked at his diamond watch on his wrist, it was barely thirty minutes past ten in the morning. He relaxed in his chair, flexing his arm a bit to release the pressure of writing for a long time. He switched on his phone and went over to his call log, putting a call over to Harry. He picked at the second ring, making Jack place the phone back on his years.
“Yo! good morning man.” he greeted.
“Morning. My flight leaves in twenty minutes.” Harry responded and he mouthed an “oh.” Harry had reminded him about traveling the previous day.
“Are you coming back anything soon?” he asked
“After you get into a serious relationship.” Harry joked and he laughed.
“Good luck then. Sadly I won’t be seeing your annoying ass again.” He responded in the same joking tone harry had used.
“you can’t get rid of me that easily. I’m sure you would get a girl in the next six months.” Harry responded and he scoffed.
“Is that a bet or a threat?” he asked, a sly smile playing at the bottom of his lips.
“None of that, just the future that I have foreseen.” Harry responded with a dramatic tone, causing him to smile and roll his eyes.
“Get on that plane now, have a safe trip.” He answered and ended the call some seconds later.
She sat on the chair, a plate of chopped fruits on her leg and my laptop on the small table in front of her. It has been three days since she had that little conversation with Ciara her friend. After Ciara had convinced her to keep the money, she finally decided to keep it. She had spent a good percent of the money buying beverages, groceries, and house materials while the other part sat in her bank account. She had weighed her words, “If you want him, go for him.” She was sure she wasn’t in love with him, but there was this bit of motivation in her that wanted her to try being with him.
After Ciara had left, she logged into Instagram and searched for him again. He had dropped a photo of him. She liked the photo and went through the comment section. She found herself cringing at the comments she found there. Different girls were openly professing love to him and offering themselves to him. He had not replied to any of the comments dropped. She had decided against dropping a comment and instead went to his message box, dropping a quick “Hi” with two heart emojis. Since then, she had been checking to see if he would respond, but he didn’t
.
She sighed for the hundredth time that day. She had just logged out of her Instagram account where she had gone online to check for any reply from him but found none. The message showed delivered but was not read. She dropped her phone and tried to focus on her work. She was writing a review article about the latest fashion product that had been launched. Ever since she got sacked, she had dedicated most of her time to her upcoming blog, trying to grow it. She had only been able to grow her monthly visitor by a bit and some other slight increase that were not very helpful.
She beamed widely at the content displayed on her laptop screen. She had just finished writing a review article of over two thousand words. She re-read it multiple times to cross-check for errors but found none.
“This is the golden one.” She beamed, clasping her hands together in delight. She pressed a few keys on her laptop. “And…, post!” she exclaimed, pressing a button. She had just uploaded her post. She shut down her laptop and got up from the chair. She was feeling very nervous. It was a normal feeling she felt anytime she made a new blog post. She walked into the kitchen and grabbed a cup of water, emptying it down her throat. She walked back to her sitting room, booting the laptop again.
She scrolled through YouTube, stopping to watch Jack’s interview session again. The interview wasn’t uploaded officially yet since it was to be posted when the magazine was ready, but as a former staff of the company, she had access to the company’s channel where videos are posted for the internal staff to watch. She stared at the screen as he sat confidently, responding to the questions that were thrown at him. He was dressed in a blue designer suit, his hair was curled back and his eyebrows were perfectly carved. He looked more like a Greek god. He spoke so intelligently as the interviewer threw questions at him and she was marveled.
“He is so intelligent.” She muttered. “I was the one that was supposed to be the asking those questions.” She added looking away. Her heart boiled in anger as she remembered how she was unjust fully kicked out. Ever since she was kicked out, nobody from the company had reached out to her, not even her boss who wanted an affair with her. She closed the app and opened her email, she had sent an application alongside a copy of her CV to some companies that had vacancies. Ciara had told her to look outside broadcasting, maybe work in a big company and be in the media section.
So far, she had sent her application to four different firms, two in Los Angeles and the other two outside the city and there was no positive reply from any of them. One of them had rejected her application while the other three hadn’t said anything positive. She closed her laptop and switched on the television, relaxing more into the chair.
