Lola’s pov,
After a good night’s sleep, Lola decided she had to apologize to Noah for comparing him to his father. It had been a low blow even for her. She went to Noah’s house only to find the door locked. She tried a few other places before she went to his office. She knocked on the door and waited outside. A tall man with dark hair and brown eyes came out.
“Can I help you?” he asked.
Lola looked at the stranger standing before her, “Who are you?”
“My name is Marc; I am alpha Grey’s apprentice.”
“Ow okay. I want to speak to Noah,” she said.
Marc gave her a disapproving look, “You should address him as alpha Grey. I am afraid he is busy at the moment. Can I take a message?”
Lola bit her lip, Noah had never said no to seeing her before. She must have really hurt him with her words. “Just tell him Lola wants to talk to him.”
Marc nodded and closed the door in her face. Maybe Noah just needed some time. Lola went back to Laela, and she spend the next couple of days trying to have fun with Laela and Fenna. She tried to distract herself, but it was hard getting Noah out of her mind. She liked Laela but she had to admit that she actually missed being around Noah. He could make her feel calm and safe only to set off a fire in her seconds later. She had never met a man that could make her emotions become such a rollercoaster. Was she feeling more for him than she wanted to admit?
Every day she tried to talk to him but every day it was the same outcome. Marc told her Noah was busy. But Lola wasn’t a quitter so today she went looking for Noah again. She found him in a meeting with the other alphas. Laela told her there had been wolves disappearing. The meeting looked heated, so Lola figured it was about the missing wolves. She waited outside until the meeting would be over. Marc came out first and he frowned when he noticed Lola.
“How many times do I have to tell you he is busy Lola? He obviously had more important things to worry about than his rebel mate. Honestly, you are being pathetic right now,” he snarled.
Lola’s jaw dropped to the floor, who did this bonehead think he was? Speaking to her like that. She just wanted to give him a piece of her mind when Noah walked out with the other alphas. “Noah, Noah, NOAH?” she yelled.
But he did not even look her way when they all just walked past her. Marc gave her a vile smile before hurrying after them. Lola’s heart sank to her stomach, and she started walking home. She was just about to indulge herself in a world of self-pity when she heard someone call her from the bushes.
“Lola, pssstt. Over here.”
Lola followed the voice and found a frightened Deborah hiding in the bushes.
“Deborah? What the hell are you doing there?”
Deborah had a bewildered look in her eyes, “Listen I don’t have much time. I need you to tell alpha Grey I can’t accept his offer to help me escape.”
Lola wanted to ask all sorts of questions, but Deborah interrupted her again, “Please tell me you will try?”
Lola nodded and immediately Deborah jumped out of the bushes and ran away. “That was weird as fuck.” Lola thought to herself.
So, Noah had actually tried to do something about Deborah being beaten? Oh man, that meant she had been so wrong. Knowing this she felt even more guilty, and she knew she really needed to talk to him and set things right. She felt more determined than ever, and she would not let some errand boy stand in her way again. She would just demand to speak to Noah and push Marc aside if she had to. This time she would not take no for an answer!
She went for a walk past the secluded cabins to come up with a strategy. She needed to have a good reason to speak with Noah. Maybe an emergency concerning Laela or something? She just walked towards the last cabin when she saw Marc coming out of the front door. She wanted to go to him and reprimand him for how he spoke to her before. But something inside her stopped her when she saw Marc looking left and right several times before putting 3 locks on his door.
“That is strange. Only someone with something to hide would put so many locks on his door,” she thought.
Marc walked away in the opposite direction. Lola carefully walked to the door and looked at the lock. She could get into big trouble for this, and Noah would probably never speak to her again but she had to go in. She was curious about what Marc was hiding. Maybe she would find something she could use against him. She took a bobby pin from her hair and picked the 3 locks. At least her orphan life had been useful for something.
She walked into the cabin which was covered in complete darkness. Lola couldn’t find a light switch anywhere. When her eyes adjusted a bit she started exploring. But besides the furniture, there was nothing in the cabin. No personal belongings, nothing. Lola jumped up when she heard a weird scratching sound. She did what any girl in a classic horror movie would do, she followed the sound. She always thought she would be smart in a situation like this but apparently, she was as dumb as she was stubborn.
The sound came from behind a big wooden door. Lola opened the door which led to stairs going down. Cold air blasted in her face, and she got chills when she heard the sound again. She carefully went down and was shocked when she found a cellar with cages filled with people. The scratching sound had been their nails against the iron cage. Most of them looked drugged or unconscious. She saw Peter in the corner of the cage with a droopy look in his eyes.
“Ow my god, Peter. What are you doing here?”
A dark loud voice cut through the silence. “I COULD ASK YOU THE SAME THING.”
Lola’s neck hairs went stiff, and her heart was beating rapidly. Full of fear and adrenaline she turned around and looked into Marc his cold eyes.
