Lola’s pov,
It took Lola a couple of days to recover from her injuries but on the 3rd day, her leg was completely healed as if nothing had ever happened. At least it confirmed for her that the DNA she got injected with did in fact change her. All she had to do now was figure out a way to transform.
Noah had watched her closely for the last couple of days but today he asked Laela to stay with her instead. He had an important meeting with the alphas of the other packs he said. Lola would have liked to be there, but Noah seemed so worried that she didn’t bother to ask. Every time she asked what the meeting was about, he just said she should focus on healing and not be worried. But Lola could not get out of her mind what she heard the hunter said.
A company offering rewards for anyone who could bring them a wolf of enormous size. Sounded an awful lot like the company that recruited her. She was conflicted about whether she should tell Noah but then again, she would probably be killed and what good would that do anyone? So, the best thing for her to do was focus on getting stronger herself, and the only way to do that was by transforming.
Lola got dressed and sat next to Laela who was watching tv.
“Sooo Laela I was thinking it would be fun for us to try some transforming exercises.”
Laela stared at her leg and said, “Are you sure you wouldn’t rather take it easy and watch some tv?”
“No please I feel good, and I have been locked inside for days!”
Laela grinned and jumped up, “alrighty then let’s do it!”
She ran outside and then looked at Lola, “So what exactly are we doing?”
Lola laughed and said, “Tristan said meditating could help so I guess we could start with that.”
They searched for a quiet spot between the trees where they would not be disturbed, and both sat down on the ground. Lola closed her eyes and slowed down her breathing. She focused solely on the wind rustling the leaves in the trees. She cleared her mind until all she saw was a black void. She tried to look deep within herself to find some hidden treasure in the shape of a wolf but all that remained was the black void. After a while, she sighed and opened one eye. “Found anything yet?” she asked Laela.
Laela giggled, “No I have never been good at meditating. All I can think of is Halloween last year when I scared Noah. I buried myself in a pile of leaves waiting for Noah to walk home. Deborah was with him that night because she was always following my brother like he had honey on his ass. So, it was dark, and I had waited for hours. They walked past me, and I grabbed Noah his ankle. He got so scared that he jumped in the air and farted loudly from fear.”
Lola burst out laughing, “My god why can I visualize this completely?”
Laela was rolling over the floor laughing at this point, “You should have seen Deborah’s face. I think that was the moment she realized Noah was not the God she envisioned.”
Lola wiped a tear from her cheek, “Speaking of getting scared maybe that will help us transform. How about we wait till it’s dark and then we take turns scaring each other.”
Laela shook her hand, “Sounds like a plan that requires booze.”
Lola grinned, “You really are a woman to my heart you know that?”
Together they ravished Noah his collection of alcohol bottles and mixed some cocktails. After 6 margaritas Lola felt free without a care in the world. The sun had just gone down and Lola tried to stand up. She fell down in the chair again giggling and said, “You should go out now and hide. I will come out in 10 minutes so you can scare me.”
Lola closed her eyes for a minute and when she opened them again, she noticed that it was 30 minutes later. “Fuck better go now Laela must be waiting.”
She staggered outside and shouted loudly in a drunk voice, “A wizard is never late, she arrives exactly when she means to.”
She walked around for a bit and then got distracted by the lights that were hanging in the trees, “Ooeeh pretty,” she mumbled.
As she walked by the trees, she noticed a shadow leaping over her. She looked up and got jumped by Laela who was wearing a panty over her head. “AAAAAA,” Lola screamed before she got crushed by Laela that landed right on top of her.
Laela moaned, “AUW.” Before they both got a laughter attack again. They lay there together in the wet grass drunk and happy.
“So, guess scaring also didn’t work,” Laela laughed.
She stood up and suddenly gasped, “Oh I know what you should do. You should ask the high priestess for help. She probably knows what to do.”
Lola grunted, “No not crazy bird lady. I think we both silently agreed it would be best to never be in each other’s sight again.”
Laela stared at her with big eyes, “Wait what? You call the high priestess crazy bird lady?”
Lola grinned naughtily, “Well you can’t say you see the resemblance, right? She is the real-life action version of a crow.”
Laela laughed loudly and then quickly covered her mouth, “My god I am not supposed to laugh at that. She is our connection to the gods you know.”
She continued, “You should really consider going there though. I think she is the only one that can help you transform.”
Lola sighed, “Fine I will give it a go. Where can I find her.”
“She lives in a small hut at the edge of the forest. I better go home now and pray that I will be spared a hangover tomorrow.” Laela said.
Lola gave Laela a hug, “I had a good time, thanks for keeping me company.”
“Me too. We should do it again sometime.”
Laela walked away leaving Lola alone with her thoughts and a clear sky full of stars. She stared at them for a while. When you live in a city you never take the time to just look at the stars but here in the peace and quiet, she had all the time to enjoy them. The moon shone brightly and made sure that Lola could see where she was walking. She walked to the edge of the forest, and it did not take her long to find the high priestess her hut. It was a bit creepy with bones and symbols hanging from all branches. She wanted to knock on the door, but a voice already said, “Come in.”
Inside the hut, there was just a tiny kitchen, a bed, a table with a chair, and a fireplace. The high priestess was busy cutting into some dead animal when Lola came in. She almost threw up from the weird smell inside the hut. The priestess her eyes were covered with chalk and her eyes fixated were fixated on Lola while she kept slicing her knife in and out of the meat. “You want to know why you cannot transform,” the high priestess stated.
Lola felt a bit uncomfortable, and she coughed because her throat went dry, “Uhm yes. How do you know that?”
“I know everything the gods want me to know. At first, I did not want to help you because of your lack of respect but the gods are sending me very clear messages that I have to. Although I cannot understand what they would want with a spoiled, rotten brat like you.”
Lola did not know where to look so she focused on the high priestess her feet which were covered with bird feathers, “Yes sounds about right. So can you help me?”
The high priestess walked closer, and the awful smell intensified, “Well I can sense your wolf, but it is hidden somehow. We all know that the moon goddess is the one that sets off the transformations. So, ask yourself what else is it that the moon goddess controls? You will have to fix your imbalance before you can transform.”
Lola frowned, “Sorry but I have no idea what you are talking about.”
The high priestess responded irritated, “Above everything you are apparently also dense. You are denying the mate bond that is given by you by the moon goddess. You need to accept the mate bond, dumb girl.”
