“This biscuit is a gift from an English friend. It tastes good. An Ya, try one.” Then Fang’s mother lifts the lid of the biscuit box herself. She can’t be nicer.
An Ya takes a biscuit shyly and nibbles at it elegantly. Fang’s mother is so satisfied with her graceful eating manners that she almost directly presents those merits to Fang Hao.
Just then the doorbell rings. Fang’s mother doesn’t care much about it and sends a servant to answer the door. Fang Hao doesn’t want to stay at the scene of her mother getting along with An Ya so well and volunteers to answer the door.
“Manman?!” Fang Hao’s surprising voice attracts the attention of the two people in the parlor. Seeing the living Ding Manman in front of him, Fang Hao has a moment of illusion that he is dreaming.
“You’re back?” Fang Hao asks unbelievably. After all, he had hired many private detectives to trace her whereabouts, but there was no clue of her. Just like a needle in the hay, she disappeared totally.
“I’m sorry, Fang Hao. I didn’t mean to disappear on the wedding day. Regarding that thing, let me explain…”
“Nothing to explain. Why are you here, you cheeky woman? I make it to you clearly that our Fang family is an upright family. A person like you is not allowed to get in casually.” Ding Manman is interrupted by Fang’s mother even before she starts her explanation. There is no chance for her to retort at all.
“Auntie, the fact is not like that. I’m forced, Auntie. You must trust me.” Ding Manman says anxiously. She is clear that Fang’s mother has always been dissatisfied with her from the very beginning. If she doesn’t explain it clearly, the relationship between Fang Hao and her will become impossible.
Ding Manman has expected Mrs. Fang would at least give her an opportunity to explain, but it’s obviously beyond her expectation. Mrs. Fang can’t wait to drive her off right away.
“You don’t need to explain! Nothing to explain. You have slept with an unknown man. What else do you have to say? You’d better leave quickly. Or people will think our family is as dirty as you.” Mrs. Fang says rather meanly. Ding Manman’s face turns pale on hearing that. She wants to refute her, but she doesn’t know how to start it.
The videotape of that day tags her as a shameless woman like a label. Although the whole event was against her will, no one would believe right now. Therefore, Ding Manman’s hatred for Zhong Shaoting grows stronger. Fang Hao can’t bear to stand by anymore.
“Mom, listen to Manman. I believe Manman is not that kind of person. Don’t draw a conclusion too hastily.” After all he and Manman have been in love for so many years and known clearly about each other’s personalities. Although he has been greatly impacted by this thing, he still wants to hear Ding Manman explain it herself.
“You will not be satisfied until I am irritated by you to death, will you? Up to now, what else to explain? Things have happened. She can find any excuse to subside them. Then you’ll be coaxed by her like a fool!” Mrs. Fang feels that she is about to pass out with the outrage incurred by her stupid son.
However, no matter what Mrs. Fang says, Fang Hao still stands on Ding’s side, which makes Ding’s dead heart slowly come alive. As for the fact Fang Hao still trusts her, Ding feels very warm in her heart and is able to collect her courage to face Fang’s impertinent mother.
“Auntie, I know it’s hard for you to accept it. It’s harder for me. If I could, I wish it had never happened at all.” Ding speaks in a sorrowful voice. She doesn’t want to recall the past events at all. However, Fang’s mother sneers at her words and doesn’t believe them at all. But Ding doesn’t give up.
“My family and the Zhong’s had a feud, which I didn’t know of until today. This is also the reason why Zhong Shaoting has kidnapped and imprisoned me. During those three months, my freedom had been restricted. I had been monitored when I was out of the house. I couldn’t make phone calls, and I had to endure the danger of being tortured by Zhong Shaoting.”
“Sure, these three months is neither short for the insider nor long for the outsiders. I tried to escape countless times. I also tried to commit suicide three times. And the times that I was tortured almost to death by Zhong were too numerous to count. The only belief supporting my survival is to meet Fang Hao and explain to him that all these are against my willingness.”
If she can, Ding doesn’t want to recall those dark days at all. Zhong has left her so many nightmares that she can’t fall asleep at night and usually keeps her eyes open until dawn.
Now it’s a kind of torture for Ding to mention it again. But Mrs. Fang doesn’t buy it at all. Instead, on hearing Ding’s words, Fang Hao feels so much pity for her that he wants to embrace her into his arms subconsciously. However, he is held back by his mother’s stern and terrifying eyes.
“See? There are all kinds of shameless people in the society! I almost believed her explanation about her affairs this way.” Mrs. Fang laughs sarcastically and her tone is full of contempt.
“The Dings and the Zhongs have a feud? Why have I never heard of it? Why don’t you say that your family killed the Zhong Group president’s parents? Maybe that will be more convincing. ”
“Auntie, I…”
“All right. All right. No matter what happened, I don’t want to see you again anyway. And the Fangs won’t marry an impure woman. Leave right now and don’t be an eyesore here.” Ding wants to talk back but is interrupted by Mrs. Fang again. Fang’s mother just looks down upon her bluntly.
Then she even reaches out to push Ding, for fear that she will step into their house. Ding didn’t expect that Mrs. Fang would be so agitated as to push her. She is suddenly shoved off guard. Her whole body quickly backs away. As a result, she stumbles and falls to the ground heavily.
“Manman!” Fang Hao hurries to help her up. Ding instantly feels a sharp pain from her ankle. Following her sight, Fang Hao finds that the point where her ankle is hurt turns swollen and red, which triggers the tenderness in his heart.
“Are you OK? Do you feel hurt anywhere else?” Fang Hao asks with concern. Ding shakes her head in pain. Having been tortured by Zhong for so long, this pain means nothing to her. But her ankle does hurt badly.
But in the eyes of Fang’s mother, Ding is just acting to gain her son’s sympathy. Thus her hatred for Ding grows even deeper.
“Well, can such a slight push cause such an exaggerated effect? Why don’t you go to make a show on TV? Maybe you can gain an award for it.”
“Mom! Enough! Manman also feels terrible. Why are you always so harsh to her! ” Fang Hao can’t help yelling at his mother for her meanness.
