LILA’S P. O. V.
True to my word, when I left the pack, I took my dad with me. He seems happier here, but sometimes I see it. He misses mom. She is still very important to him. When I visit my mom I always take my dad. He loves seeing her even if it is painful.
Callum has truly become my son. He treats me just like I do my mom. He still isn’t talking but he communicates just fine when he wants to. I worry if he will ever talk. He’s eight now and still hasn’t uttered a word.
I am getting ready for another trip to see my mom. This time is a little different. I am meeting my brother’s mate for the first time. He’s nervous about it. Says she’s been through a lot. I don’t really know what but if he’s worried then it can’t be good.
We are all gathering at the front door. Ash is supposed to bring around the car, since I got pregnant Mateo is a little paranoid and has upped our security. My dad smiles at me. “You are just as beautiful as your mother was when she was pregnant with you.”
Mateo still has some issues with my dad. “How exactly would you know that when you were locked in a cell?”
My dad rolls his eyes. “Jasmine would visit me through the pregnancy to show me the progress. Some of the hardest times of my life.”
Callum comes up to me and gently grips my swollen belly. He gives it a kiss and hugs me. He gives me a smile. I love his smile.
I am ready to go when Ash pulls around the side of the house. He gets out to open the door for us when my phone starts to ring. I don’t hesitate to answer when I see Jace’s name on the screen. “Hey, we were just heading out.”
“Don’t come down.” His tone seems urgent and aggressive.
“What’s going on Jace?”
“We might be headed for war. I don’t want to have to worry about my pregnant sister in the middle of that. I am sending mom and my mate up. Mom isn’t happy about it, but she needs to keep the little ones safe. I don’t know how this is going to work but I know that Mateo’s compound is the most secure place in either packs. I am sure Mateo would agree with me. Dad and I are securing the pack and preparing for war. We are sending as many pack members as possible. So, please stay there.”
“Jace what is going on?”
He sighs. “I have made an enemy and there is no way out of it. It’s about my mate. Just trust me. You will see mom soon. I am going to call Mateo to discuss what we can do about working together on this.”
My dad looks worried. I know he still knows a lot of people in the pack. He can hear everything. Not to mention Mom is still there.
“Alright Jace. We will stay here.” I look at Callum and he nods. “Callum agrees this is safest.”
He chuckles a little. “I still can’t get over the fact that your son can tell the future. Mom will be up later today. I am sending her with some of our brothers. Dad wants some to stay here.”
“Please stay safe Jace. Protect the pack.”
“That’s the plan.”
We end the call and I can’t help but feel like this is not going to be a simple thing. We have never had to deal with anything this bad since Daddy and his pack. I just pray to the goddess that my family stays safe through all of this.
