JACE’S P. O. V.
“We have been over this video a hundred times. He doesn’t talk to anyone but Lila and the bartender.” I am beyond frustrated. This was my lead and it isn’t panning out shit.
Andrew pats me on the shoulder. “Don’t worry dude, we’ll find her.”
“She’s not your sister.” I grumble.
Eli scoffs. “She’s only my best friend. But you know I don’t give a shit.” His mate is sleeping on my bed while we go over the footage. She seems like a nice enough girl, but I really haven’t taken the time to get to know her.
“Sorry, I know you guys care. I’m just on edge. We have nothing. This is like two days gone. We’re desperate. Mom even called Moonridge.”
Andrew looks shocked. “They are like the most vicious pack there is. What made your mom think that they were even going to talk to her?”
“I don’t know but she said that she talked to the Alpha directly. Said he sounded like a nice guy.”
Eli gets his suspicious look. “Really the Alpha of the most vicious pack has a nice Alpha. Don’t you think that sounds suspicious?”
“Mom thinks that we haven’t given him a chance since he took over from his father.”
“What if it’s just to throw us off? Think about it. If you kidnapped the next Alpha of the Black forest Pack, would you want to make yourself seem distant and cold or caring and helpful?”
“Eli, are you saying that you think Alpha Mateo took Lila?”
“I’m saying until I hear different, he is my first suspect.” He gets a determined look on his face. “Think about it. He could have been at that club. His pack isn’t that far off. He isn’t invited to the birthday party. So if for some reason he thinks that Lila is his mate, then he would need to make sure that he was near her on the day to make sure that she acknowledged the bond.”
“That’s a lot of assumptions, Eli.” Andrew scoffs. “I know you want to find Lila, but don’t go on a witch hunt.”
“I’m talking like a tracker, Andy.”
“Don’t call me that.” Andrew yells.
“What does it matter if you think Alpha Mateo took Lila, what can we do about it? Mom already sent wolves up there, they aren’t allowed in the compound but they are searching the rest of the lands. What else can we do?”
Eli thinks for a minute. “What if we send up an ambassador? Say we are just trying to find out about that pack, make an alliance.”
“Even then, he could insist that he comes to our pack, not the other way around.” I counter.
He smiles. “Still, he will have her scent on him. If her scent is on him then he took her. So it still works if he comes here.”
“Yeah, but if he took her, would he agree to any meeting at all?” His plan could work, but he might avoid it.
“True, but maybe we could get the Beta even. If he comes he might carry traces of her scent. We will really push the alliance. It can work.” Eli has an idea stuck in his head and he isn’t going to budge. “I’m going to talk to Aunt Jas about it tomorrow.”
He gets up and wakes up his mate. “Meg, hun. Let’s head to our room.” She groggily gets up and rubs her eyes.
“Did you find anything?” She says as she yawns.
“No but we have a plan. Come on, let’s get some sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a big day.” He lifts her up and carries her out of the room.
Andrew looks at me with concern. “Do you think it will work?”
“I don’t know, but it’s better than the nothing we had an hour ago.” I sigh. It’s right, but I am not holding out hope on finding her this way. It’s a chance right?
