Alyssa’s Pov:
I looked at Sandy and sandy was looking back at me.
“Uh… you can catch up with me in the bookstore” she told me and I nodded and she left.
I took my eyes back to Mrs Tamara. What does she want to say?
“Alyssa” she called and paused, taking a deep breath.
“I don’t in so. I… I know this much sound crazy but… I want to ask for your forgiveness. I yum… I know I’ve been very unfair to you. But the truth is, I was just kind of jealous. I was jealous of the fact that you were being treated specially here in Mico High.
“Mico had stopped the giving out scholarship in his school, but you were exempted. And then you also got a free registration into the context. I felt you were a commoner and didn’t deserve such special treatment. But I’ve gotten to understand that life isn’t about money or fame. Those who are born rich didn’t chose to be rich and those who are born poor didn’t chose to be poor either.
“I’ve always disliked commoners – a bad habit I’ve been trying to stop. So I want to take out this time and ask for your forgiveness. Is it okay by you?”
I left my eyes dilated in shock. I couldn’t believe it. Is this a joke or something?
Was Mrs Tamara really apologising to me?
I blinked rapidly.
“I…” I paused and scoffed.
It was just too surprising.
“it’s… its okay Mrs Tamara. I hold no grudges against you” I told her and she smiled.
“Thank you Alyssa. Indeed you’re a kindhearted person.
“By the way, I got you a drink to boost our new friendship”.
She proffered the drink to me and I smiled and collected it.
It was a small cartoned drink.
“Thank you ma” I replied happily and she parted me on the shoulders and left.
I looked at her as she walked away and still saw her apology as a miracle.
How did she get to like me? What could’ve prompted her into it?
Well maybe it was the start of something good and new in my life.
I smiled and headed for the bookstore and there I met sandy around the entrance. .
“Hey, I’ve been waiting for you” she said immediately she saw me
“What did you two talk about?”
“Uh. .. she apologised to me and gave me this” I replied happily, showing her the drink and she pulled a surprised face
“Huh? Are you serious? She apologised to you? And wait… its Milky way!” She exclaimed and collected the drink from me.
“It’s actually my favourite. Don’t worry, I’ll help you hold it”.
I chuckled and we walked fully into the bookstore.
“I still can’t believe Mrs Tamara apologised to me, sandy” I said as we stood by a book shelf.
Sandy opened the drink and sipped from it.
“Well, Mrs Tamara is a nice person. I was surprised when you told me she was inconveniencing you” she replied.
I shrugged and tired collecting the drink from her but she withdrew it and sipped from it again.
“Don’t be selfish, Alyssa. Don’t worry, I’ll give it to you. Help me check over that shelf for the book I’m looking for. It’s the prime master book.”
I took in a hard breath and walked over to the shelf. I checked and checked for some time and finally found it.
“Found it! I said with relieve and returned to where she was with the book.
“Oh, th…” she tried talking but was interrupted by a slight cough.
“Thanks” she completed and coughed again.
“Hey, are you alright?” I asked, a little surprised.
“I… I. .. think so” she replied and resumed coughing again and this time around, it was repeatedly.
“Sandy?” I called.
The books and drink fell from her hands and suddenly she was coughing out blood.
My eyes widened in shock.
“Sandy? Wh… What’s going on?” I asked with fear.
She couldn’t speak but just went on coughing and next, she fell on the floor.
Blood started coming out of her nostrils.
Holy Christ!
“Sandy!” I shrieked and knelt on the floor beside her.
She started convulsing and trepidation gripped me.
Few of the students in the bookstore started drawing near.
“Sandy!” I cried.
“What’s happening? Look at me. Sandy! Somebody help! Please! Help!”
Alyssa’s Pov:
I was so restless and scared. My heart was beating so fast.
What if something bad happens to Sandy? What if she dies? She was really in a bad condition.
I was at the hospital together with Sandy’s family, the principal and vice principal. They were the ones who had assisted me in bringing her to the hospital and since I was a witness, they agreed I come along with them.
We’ve been there for a very long time as sandy was being treated on. And also, every thing Sandy had eaten was taken to the lab for test – including the drink – because thethe doctor had said her condition was a result of food poisoning.
But who could have poisoned Sandy and why?
Her mother was just crying and was being consoled by her husband. I felt very bad for her.
After another long while, the doctor showed up and we all rushed to him. My fore head was sweating profusely.
God please, let nothing happen to sandy
“Doctor how’s she…”
“Where’s she…”
“Please tell me she’s okay…”
“Do you need more money…”
“Doctor…”
They all spoke at the same time and the doctor signalled them to calm down.
“Well,” he said, kind of sounding sad.
“There’s a possibility she might live. Like I earlier said, she was poisoned and the poison had affected her heart. But thank goodness it didn’t kill her. It’s a lucky escape, I must say.
“So right now she’s in comma and needs serious medical attention”
Sandy’s mum busted into more tears and buried her face Im her husband’s chest.
“Oh my baby…” and cried.
“But doctor, how was she poisoned?” Mrs Tamara asked and the doctor looked at me.
Why’s he looking at me?
“The milky way she drank, how did she get it?” He asked and I heard a loud drum beating in my heart.
“I… she… she collected it from me” I stuttered, wandering where he was driving at.
“Well, according to the tests we conducted, it was poisoned.” He replied.
Everybody gasped as all eyes turned on me.
What the… No
This can’t be.
“Alyssa?” Mr Fredo called in shock.
Oh, God!
Tears filled my eyes immediately.
“You poisoned my daughter?” The father asked in an a backed tone.
“But it… It was given to me by aokeon” I said.
My entire body was almost shaking with fear.
I turned and looked at Mrs Tamara.
“She had given it to me” I added and Mrs Tamara flinched.
All eyes darted to her direction.
“Me?” She asked surprised.
“Hold on; are you trying to say I poisoned sandy?”
“But sandy had taken it right after you gave it to me”
“Wait; what’s going on here? Who tried to kill my daughter?” The mother asked.
“Mrs Tamara?” Mr Fredo called.
“Do you know something about this?”
“I… I didn’t do it!” She replied.
“Then how can you explain the fact that it’s poisoned?” The doctor asked.
“And why did you give me a drink? You never liked me” I also said, not knowing where courage came from.
“I… I wanted to apologise to you…”
“And I drink was a best thing you could use for an apology?” A relative over there also asked.
“Well, I…”
“Tell us the truth Mrs Tamara. Did you intentionally wanted to poison Alyssa?” Mr Fredo asked.
“Listen to me” she said in a blaring voice and everyone kept quiet.
“I’m not denying the fact that I gave the drink to Alyssa. But I swear on my mother’s grave, I never poisoned it”.
There was a brief silence in the room but it Was later broken by Sandy’s mum.
“Well, I think you’ll have to explain yourself to the police ” she said.
***
I returned home later in the evening and was still very shocked by what happened earlier.
I can’t believe Mrs Tamara had really tired to poison me.
Why was she still denying it when she had been caught red handed?
I had really thought she wanted to make peace with me. I should have been wise to know she was only deceiving me and meant no good.
Now sandy is in a terrible condition because of her.
It’s a good thing Mrs Tamara had been arrested and was undergoing thorough investigation. I wonder what will come out of it.
But why does she hate me that much that she’s even make an attempt on my life? What did I ever do to her?
I was just sitting at the facade of the house when I heard someone knocking on the gate. I sluggishly stood up to check who it was and it was Nigel
He was putting on a worried look.
“Nigel?” I called, kind of feeling excited he was there.
Maybe it’s because I just needed someone to talk to.
“Alyssa are you okay? I got scared when I heard about the poison. It’s a good thing you weren’t affected” he said in a perturbed voice, holding my hand.
I looked at him with surprise.
Wait; how did he get to know about the poison under such a short notice?
“Nigel” I called, perplexed.
“How did you get to know about the poison?”
