It was a rare bright day in autumn, with a clear blue sky and a cool breeze.
Keira is holding Emma Richard in one hand, holding up the melting ice cream with the other, occasionally poking the tip of her tongue across her lips, holding back the drool that is about to come out.
“We said we’d give it to daddy to eat, and it’s a piglet to steal it.” Emma Richard lowered her eyes to look over, showing a smile of understanding.
“I’m not a piglet, I’m not stealing food!” Keira puffed out a retort, and with all her will power, she reluctantly turned her head away from the sweet smelling strawberry ice cream.
Emma Richard stroked her head, her smile tinged with a bit of helplessness.
There is no child who does not love ice cream, and the playground is a place to eat and play, but Keira is still recovering from her illness, so she cannot eat any snacks bought outside, especially cold drinks.
Seeing Keira flattening her mouth and looking disappointed, Emma Richard squatted down, spread her arms around her and warmly comforted her: “Good girl, Daddy will be here soon and will be very happy to see that you have prepared a gift for him.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Keira’s eyes lit up and she pointed to a short distance ahead and exclaimed, “Daddy!”
When Emma Richard got up as an afterthought, Keira had already rushed into Alex Roberts’ arms and handed over the ice cream she had been craving for so long.
Alex Roberts spins Keira around a few times and then carefully places her back on the ground, looking at the ice cream in his hand, but looking a little embarrassed.
“Doesn’t Daddy like it?” Keira takes a step back, her bright eyes misting up as she looks up at him with resignation.
Emma Richard also felt confused, she knew Alex Roberts didn’t like sweets, but since Keira had given it to him, he had to pretend to like it even if he didn’t, right?
She was about to ask, when she suddenly noticed that his cheeks were pale and his thin lips were an abnormal shade of pale pink, and that a sports outfit hid his sickly appearance, but she could still see that he was not in good spirits.
“Are you … not feeling well?” Emma Richard held out her hand toward him, “Give me that okay.”
Alex Roberts shook his head and thanked Emma Richard with a glance, but Keira’s heart was too sincere for him to let down.
Eating the ice cream quickly, he picked Keira up with one arm and gestured for Emma Richard to follow: “Come on, let’s go get the tickets.”
Emma Richard walked on the other side to take care of Keira, and he raised his hand to rub his stomach unnoticed, remembering Dean Wright’s medical advice and feeling vaguely worried.
His headaches and tinnitus had become more frequent recently, and Dean Wright had altered his treatment plan several times, increasing the number of precautions he had to take in his life. This morning’s routine checkup was not too good.
He had just eaten a cold food and hoped he wouldn’t have an accident.
The amusement park is a kid’s paradise, Keira pulled Alex Roberts and Emma Richard through the merry-go-round and then ran to the neighboring carousel slide.
Keira asked Alex Roberts to accompany her on the spinning slide, which is about 100 meters long and must be ridden by an adult.
Alex Roberts, once again, showed hesitation.
Emma Richard seemed to see what was going on and volunteered, “Mom loves slides, let’s go play!”
Keira ‘oh’ suspiciously, like a movie detective pinch chin, cunningly narrowed eyes, up and down to look at Alex Roberts.
“I get it, Daddy’s scared, right?”
Alex Roberts and Emma Richard were stunned to see Keira waved her hand in disgust and scoffed, “Daddy is so timid, not as brave as mommy and me, forget it, daddy is waiting for us here.”
In this way, Keira, accompanied by Emma Richard, played many exciting items.
It wasn’t until Keira went to the naughty castle, where adults were not allowed to participate, that Emma Richard found the opportunity to ask Alex Roberts what was wrong with his body.
“Don’t tell me it’s okay!”
Before Alex Roberts could even say anything, Emma Richard was already poking holes in his next lie: “If you’ve ever looked in the mirror before you go out, you know you can’t fool me.”
Emma Richard’s words were like a series of cannons, which blocked Alex Roberts’s planned excuses, so he finally had to find an excuse: “I stayed up late yesterday and worked late, so …”
“Your assistant Eric Chan, and Dean Wright, they will let you work all night?” Emma Richard clasped her arms and stared at him coldly, obviously not believing.
Seeing that he still refused to tell the truth, Emma Richard revealed the bottom line: “You were on the phone with my brother the other day, and I was right next to you.”
The two were discussing how the Miller Family had come back from the dead, and Joe Wright had inadvertently mentioned Alex Roberts’ condition, which Emma Richard heard and took to heart.
Alex Roberts didn’t care much, and continued to downplay the fact that he was just a little weak, after all, even Joe Wright didn’t know exactly what was wrong with him.
Emma Richard was about to ask a question when he raised his hand to his wristwatch: “It’s been almost half an hour, and Keira isn’t resting?”
Keira has been at home since she was discharged from the hospital, and when she finally gets out to relax, it’s easy to lose track of time in her excitement. After being reminded by Alex Roberts, Emma Richard rushed over to find her.
The interior of the castle is complicated, Emma Richard circled around but did not find her figure, so she asked the staff to help.
Waiting for a moment, the staff member came out alone.
“Are you sure the child is inside? I asked again, there is no child named Keira Wright.”
No?!
She’d sent Keira in herself, and then she and Alex Roberts were standing not far from the exit chatting, so a three-year-old could disappear!
Emma Richard’s heart was beating like a drum, but she knew it wasn’t the right time to rush and regained control of her emotions by describing Keira’s height and appearance to the staff.
A few minutes later, the staff once again returned empty-handed.
“At this time of day, most of the tourists had gone to lunch, and I searched all around the edges, and there were only five or six children left.”
Although she knew that a lost child was no small matter and the staff could not have treated it sloppily, and although Keira had been warned not to play for too long when she bought her ticket and Keira had always been understanding, Emma Richard still could not believe that Keira could be missing.
With her mind blank and hands trembling with nervousness, she followed the staff into the playground for the third time, while Alex Roberts immediately contacted the playground’s security department to retrieve surveillance and ordered Eric Chan to come with a bodyguard to conduct a carpet search in the playground.
For four hours, Alex Roberts checked the surveillance with the security staff, Emma Richard searched the playground with Eric Chan and the bodyguards, and Keira’s physical appearance was broadcast on the radio.
In the end, nothing was found.
They had no choice but to call the police.
But Keira’s disappearance was too sudden and without any clues, the police arrived, but there was nothing else to do but to increase the search.
Until closing time, the playground was still lit up.
Considering that Keira was seriously ill and might have fainted somewhere, the police were equipped with a loudspeaker and shouted Keira’s name while searching.
In the midst of the shouting, Alex Roberts, who had been exhausted all day, suddenly suffered a headache.
