Half a month after the surgery, in the hospital room-
Sookie slowly opened her groggy eyes. “Where am I? Why am I lying here?” She wondered inwardly. As her eyes adjusted, she realized her sister Daisy, Macey, and her brother Jack were surrounding her.
However, Sookie’s last memory was being captured at a villa by the Mexican seaside, and after that, everything was a blur.
“What… what happened?” she weakly asked, her voice hoarse, her throat parched as if she had been wandering through a desert for a long time.
“Oh, Kiki! You’re finally awake, my sweetheart,” Daisy was the first to hear Sookie’s voice. Her dull eyes instantly lit up. Daisy had appeared worn out for quite some time.
Daisy was Sookie’s closest sister. She had collapsed upon receiving the news from the hospital. She couldn’t believe her sister had been kidnapped and shot.
When she arrived at the hospital and saw this scene, she almost fainted. Luckily, Macey was there to support her. Since that day, Sookie’s siblings had taken turns caring for their poor, sleeping sister.
“Daisy… I’m okay… What happened?” Sookie asked, her voice hoarse. Jack handed her a glass of water, gesturing for her to drink before speaking.
“Half a month ago, we received a notice from the hospital saying that you were unconscious, shot twice, and suspected of being kidnapped.”
“We rushed here anxiously, and an FBI agent was here. The hospital must have alerted them.”
“An agent?”
“Yes, claiming to be from the FBI, named Hayde,” Jack added.
Upon hearing this name, Sookie’s pupils dilated. She hadn’t expected Hayde to show up at the hospital. But what about Enzo and Tessa? Had they run into trouble? Sookie was now filled with confusion, but her siblings knew nothing about their situation.
Sookie looked at their concerned faces, feeling anxious.
“Hello, ma’am. I’m glad you’ve awakened earlier than expected. How are you feeling?” Doctor Abel greeted as he entered the room, a hint of joy in his eyes.
Due to Enzo’s special status, he had been transferred back home for recovery, with Abel’s assistant taking care of him throughout. Fortunately, the location of his gunshot wounds was much easier to deal with than Sookie’s. Under the assistant’s care, Enzo’s body recovered quickly, fully healed in less than two weeks.
However, upon waking, Enzo, knowing about Sookie’s condition, chose not to visit her. His intentions were inscrutable. While he fully covered the girl’s medical expenses, he did not inquire about her condition, as if simply bestowing generosity upon a stranger.
As for the details, Doctor Abel naturally did not pry. After serving the Shadowy Saints for so long, the first thing he had learned was not to overly concern himself with matters unrelated to him.
Yet, this beautiful girl easily sparked one’s imagination. What relationship did Enzo have with her?
“Oh, yes, I feel fine,” Sookie said as she stretched. She didn’t sense anything amiss. She glanced at Doctor Abel, feeling his gaze intensely, as if trying to see through her, making her somewhat nervous.
“What’s wrong with my face?”
“Oh, nothing. If you’re feeling all right, you can complete the discharge procedures the day after tomorrow. I wish you good health,” Abel said, before turning and leaving for the next ward.
“Great, I can leave the day after tomorrow,” Daisy grabbed Sookie’s hands, her spirits reaching their highest point in half a month upon hearing this news.
“This is a private hospital with private rooms, it might be quite expensive,” Sookie joked, surveying the clean and well-equipped room. Even her blanket seemed luxuriously soft and comfortable, not a place an ordinary person could afford.
“No matter the cost, it doesn’t compare to the preciousness of your awakening,” Jack hugged Sookie, and Daisy and Macey exchanged smiles while the four of them embraced. In that moment, Sookie felt a long-lost warmth, a kind of care from her family and the joy of her life returning to normal.
Two days later-
Sunlight streamed through the window, waking Sookie from her sleep. She stretched and took a deep breath.
“I can finally leave today, I’m tired of lying down,” she said to herself, a hint of anticipation in her tone. Looking at the branches outside, two birds chirped, and everything seemed so beautiful.
As she finished packing, Jack and Daisy arrived at the door of her ward.
“Are you all packed?” Jack asked, lifting her bag.
“OK, let’s go,” Sookie shrugged and followed them out to the reception desk.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Willis. Congratulations on your discharge,” the attendant smiled at Sookie.
“Thank you, I’m here to settle my medical bill,” Sookie replied with a smile, though a hint of unease flickered in her eyes. She had always been healthy and rarely hospitalized, so she was afraid of facing a hefty medical bill.
“Your bill? It has already been taken care of, you don’t need to worry,” the attendant noticed her discomfort, but she was happy to deliver the good news.
“Taken care of? By whom?”
“Mr. Dawson took care of it.”
“Enzo? Did he leave any message about where he is now?”
For the first time in half a month, Sookie heard someone mention Enzo, and her tone suddenly rose as she clenched her hands, her eyes filled with longing, eagerly hoping to hear more from the attendant.
“Sorry, he didn’t leave any message for you. Again, congratulations on your discharge, and best wishes for your health,” the attendant politely replied to Sookie.
Sookie felt disappointed by this answer. Her once bright eyes returned to a calm state. Daisy and Jack didn’t understand why her emotions had suddenly fluctuated so much. Perhaps it was because she had been in the hospital for so long. They patted her on the shoulder.
“I’m fine, it’s just that Enzo… well… he’s a friend of mine. He seems very generous, doesn’t he?” Sookie forced a smile, gesturing toward the hefty bill, then grabbed Daisy’s hand. The three of them slowly left the reception desk.
However, in a corner of the reception area, stood a tall man wearing a black duckbill cap and a black mask. Despite the mask, his captivating eyes were hard to resist, and his sturdy figure stood out in the corner.
“You’ve recovered, Princess,” a familiar voice, a handsome face, Sookie couldn’t have imagined that she would brush past Enzo, whom she had been searching for.
After watching Sookie leave the hospital, Enzo disappeared from the corner of the reception area…
