Rachelle’s POV
My eyes were closed but not my mind. For the life of me, I couldn’t sleep. Hell, I couldn’t stop my mind from running wild the whole event that happened today.
If not for the fact that Stellan was in my room laying with me, I know I’d still be pacing the length of my room trying to unravel what Alpha Graham meant by the prophecy. Not to mention the women in the cave had previously mentioned it. How do I take over something I know nothing about?
It doesn’t all sit well with me. My thoughts were in disarray and my head was in a riotous background scene. Nothing was playing out well.
I still wanted to talk about it but I knew Everett would kick against it that was the reason why I remained calmly on his chest and just listened to his heartbeat. I was still enjoying the rhythm of his beating hand and the soothing sensation of his finger trailing the line on my back when I felt something vibrating against his body- his phone.
He pulled out a phone and let out a little “what in the goddess name is going on before he picks up the call”
“Hey man, what’s going on?” I heard him say into the phone but got tuned out for the reply that came in. I couldn’t hear anything but mushy noise from the other end of the call.
Although I couldn’t and didn’t hear anything the other person said, I felt him tense underneath me.
“What’s the plan? Tell me quickly before someone sees you” Everett murmurs. I had a guess as to who was calling him but I wasn’t exactly sure who it was and I know the outcome of listening to my unconsciousness tell me stuff. It hadn’t exactly been nice. Especially if it had to do with Everett.
“Ok thanks Stellan, I won’t let Rachelle know” I heard Everett say. My wolf was on high alert at the mere mentioning of those words. What was our mate keeping from us? And instead of asking, I willed the two of us to remain calm? Before I could slightly open my eyes, he had ended the call immediately.
I couldn’t help but think there was something he was hiding from me. His whole body looked so tense, that one would think he was trying to bite down a shout. There was no mistaking what I heard anyway.
“Okay Stellan, I won’t let Rachelle know” I know for a fact he was talking to Stellan but what I didn’t know was that the whole conversation with him was. If Everett agreed to not tell me, then it would be massive, that I know for sure. But regardless of whatever the case might be, how can he agree to not tell me something that obviously has to do with me especially now when I’m information hunting.
He gently pushed me off his chest and proceeded to the window side. He ran his finger through his hair as he typed furiously, probably sending a text to his other woman!
You know there’s no other woman Rachelle, my subconsciousness howled, pointing her devilish looking fingers at me. I rolled my eyes and she dangled her tiara before gracefully walking to the couch at my bedside and sitting down, leg crossed over the other.
I lay silently as he took deep breaths and placed his hands on the sides of his waist.
What to do? I thought. I should probably play it cool and see if he’d come out and tell me by himself. I really don’t know what I’d do if he doesn’t tell me or if he lies about it. There’s no other way than playing it cool in the beginning, I thought to myself before I called his name.
“Everett?” I called sternly, putting emphasis on the way I looked at him and called out his name.
“Yeah Baby,” he replied with a foreign expression. It was clear he was trying to hide something from me.
He turned to go back to the bed but I was already wide awake and staring at him. I cut to the chase immediately. No teasing, no jokes, and no play “won’t let me find out what Everett?” I asked and his eyes widened like he had seen a ghost.
“I thought you were asleep,” he said, shocked. He
“I woke up to your voice. I heard you speaking with someone on the phone. Who was that?” I asked him feigning ignorance of the fact that I just heard everything he had said on the phone.
“It’s nothing, babes.” He said before climbing back onto the bed. He shifted close to my side, cover us both with the duvet, and made me lay my head on his chest. “Go back to sleep. Sorry for waking you up” he said as he planted a kiss on the tip of my nose.
“But I heard you saying you wouldn’t let Rachelle know. I don’t think that is nothing babes” I said trying to replicate the tone he used in dismissing me earlier.
“Trust me Rachelle and go do sleep” he mumbled and it will be safe to say that was the last straw that broke the camel’s back.
“Everett. We’ve both had a long day and I really wanted us to rest but obviously, that wasn’t part of your plan” I started. “With everything happening you dare tell me that was nothing? What happened to not keeping secrets? What happened to you is my safe place to whom I can trust my most valuables? Everett, why would you not want to tell me something that obviously concerns me?”
“Rachelle, it’s not…” I cut him short.
“Don’t give me that crab, Everett. Just tell me if there’s someone else and the same stress as not resting.
“Rachelle!” He called out warningly.
“I know. I know…. and I’m sorry. I don’t know what to think anymore. Every day it is me discovering new things about myself and the people around me. I know you love me and I’m sorry for saying what I said. I’m sorry Everett but if you need me to stop acting annoying I’m going to need you to not make me act annoying,” I said the last part in a light tone and I was happy when I saw him smiling. He caught up on my joke.
“No, I’m not annoying,” he protested.
“I think you should be named annoying” I replied and he huffed childishly.
“You dare call your Alpha annoying?” he asked with a smug look.
“You dare call your mate annoying?” I replied, mimicking his stance.
“I’m so sorry my love. But you are still outrightly annoying” he said and I used a pillow to hit him on his head. Needless to say, that was the starting point of our pillow fight.
“I love you, Rachelle. And I don’t want to ever see you sad. Ever! I’ve made some mistakes in my past that almost landed you in trouble. Fuck me! It landed you and Violet in trouble…”
“I know Everett. And I love you too. But you see, this is life, and most times we aren’t exactly in control of the things that happen in it. But there’s something we can actually control. Our reactions to those things that happened. Do we let it destroy the things we’ve tried so hard to build, or do we treat them like what they are -mistakes? And as far as I know, mistakes are meant to be analyzed won’t doesn’t happen again… I think if you tell me, we can actually prevent a mistake”
“I don’t want to endanger you, sweetness”
“You won’t be endangering me, babes. You’d never do that”
“Yeah right… I did the first time and it landed you and Violet in some real deep shits”
“But you came right when we needed you and saved us from the real deep shit right?”
“Yes, after enduring and suffering hell from the Edwards”
Everett was still proving to be headstrong. And no I won’t allow him because I need to be aware of everything that happens around me-around us.
“Do you remember what I said about letting me in, on matters that concern you?”
He looks oblivious for a moment so I added.
“I love you so much and I’m kind so I’ll help you remember” I stood up from my lying position and sat up straight….” you said…” I stopped and put quotation marks in the air for good measure.” I don’t care about the nature of your emergencies, you need to drop a word or two before leaving, and when you are sure you aren’t coming back on time at least let me know so I don’t worry unnecessarily, because you not telling when you leave or intend to get back, stops today. I want to know about your whereabouts and basically everything about you… how you slept. How does work go? If you had lunch in the office. If you are feeling tired or anxious or anything… I didn’t bother before because I wasn’t involved but now I am, and I care. So unless you want to lose your front teeth, I want to be consulted or at least briefed about matters that concern you. Am I clear?” I stopped to see if he was looking at me. “And do you know what your reply to me was?”
He nodded in affirmative
“What was it?”
“Yes… Yes, I understand…that was a reply to me”
“Good. I like that you remember…… so?”
“I will tell you what the call was about. But first, you must sleep. I’ll tell you once we are both rested. ”
“Fair enough”. He leaned in closer to me and kissed me on the neck. The kiss was too fast and short for my liking so I pulled him closer and slammed my lips against his. He deepens the kiss and sooner than later there was a tongue battle going on inside our joined lips.
He was the first to pull away. “Let’s sleep.” He said and pulled me more on top of him.
Violet’s pov
I’m happy. Oh, no. I’m beyond happy. Because deep down inside of me I know happiness doesn’t come close to describing what I feel right now. After Rachelle narrated her story to our hearing I suddenly couldn’t contain my joy.
I have two reasons for me particularly. The first is the fact that she would take over the paz pack and Alpha Edward with the monsters he calls children will receive what they deserve. But most especially, I’m happy that I ‘l finally get to be with Stellan.
Ah, let me put that well…
I’m super happy because if Rachelle takes over the paz pack, the crescent moon pack would ally with them since her mate is the Alpha of the pack and once all these are done, being with Stellan on a silver platter no longer becomes a problem.
Everett called an emergency meeting this morning to tell us all about the call he received from Stellan last night. Although there were a thousand and one reasons why he and Rachelle shouldn’t go to the paz pack, the singular possibility of his claims holding a single piece of truth was what made Rachelle’s head bent continually. They both decided to train for a while. We fought and trained until there was no strength left in me, but Rachelle was still an energy box so she continued to train alone.
I trusted her and her abilities. Especially now that we are all sure of what her true identity is. And right now looking at her as she trained in her wolf form, I couldn’t help but marvel at the color of her fur. The way it shone and sparked. Indeed, it was a glory to behold.
With a Wild smile plastered on my face, I watched her move and jump and growled and truly everything about the white wolf is something worth zeroing out on.
