Chapter FORTY EIGHT

Book:The Rise Of The Phoenix Queen Published:2024-5-1

Rachelle’s POV
Everything that I had just found out about- that I had just learnt seemed to drip into my head in tiny droplets of liquidated information. What was all that that alpha Graham was telling me? Why would anyone- why would alpha Edward do all of that to innocent people?
All because of greed? Because he was power hungry? Was that really a good excuse for him to use to justify himself?
Alpha Edward had been the one who had destroyed the pack that was populated by white wolves.
He was also the person that killed alpha Graham in a selfish bid to take over the paz pack.
Alpha Edward was the main- in fact, he was the only reason that her life was a miserable shitty part of the existence of life and nature.
I could not do any other thing than to think and think and think all over again. I could not find a word to describe my current situation and state of mind, but to say that I was majorly shocked was an understatement.
A very big one.
Why would Alpha Edward do that? Why did he destroy the pack that was populated with white wolves? What did they ever do to him? And even if he had issues with one of the wolves, or with the alpha himself, could he not have just fought and/or sort and settle things out with the werewolf he had a problem with? Why exactly did he have to punish a pack of innocent were wolves when they had done nothing particularly wrong to him?
And yes. I had always suspected that Alpha Edward had been the one who was responsible for the death of Alpha Graham. I had always suspected that it was so, but I guess that I did not believe it inwardly. That, or hearing it come from someone else was too much of a surprise- a shock for me to bear.
And at that time, I was only a child, so I really did not know much about anything that had taken place or the going-ons of the pack and its people, and especially not of matters that concerned the alpha and ranked, titled were wolves. So I guess that I was not really sure of what had happened to make the alpha die suddenly and for a new alpha to be declared so quickly, but, what I did know was that life in general became suddenly uncomfortable for me and the other abandoned orphans too. But what had caused it, we definitely did not know.
I remember bringing up my theory about Alpha Edward killing his father, and although I had never mentioned it to anyone, it was what I stood by. That theory was born out of hate of the current alpha of the paz pack and it was due to the way he had maltreated me and the other slaves.
Now hearing that it was through brought a chill up my bones.
And what was alpha Graham saying about a prophecy? What prophecy was he talking about? The prophecy that would eventually me take over the paz pack? Why is that my destiny?
With a sigh, I snapped out of my thoughts.
“Alpha Graham? What were you saying about my destiny again? What did you mean by saying that the Paz pack was mine for the win and to take over? The same pack that I escaped after I could not bear the maltreatment meted out by the rulers anymore? That same place?” I asked, shaking my head and then Alpha Graham shook his too.
“Yes, Rachelle. That same pack. And yes, your destiny is for you to take over that pack. There is no way to go about it, so just accept your destiny, child.” Alpha Graham smiled gently.
“But how? Why? I do not understand.” I blinked rapidly and my eyes began to water as I thought of the responsibility that I did not feel was mine to bear, and even if it was, I certainly did not want to take over, or become the next Alpha of the paz pack.
“Can I not just give the pack to someone else? Theodore maybe? Crew even? Or even Hazel or Violet, if you want female were wolves?” I asked and Alpha Graham looked at me with an amused smile.
I was being serious, why was he smiling?
“I could even give it to Everett, right? Everett is an alpha already and he would be able to do justice and he would treat the affairs of the pack fairly? I would still stay by his side as Luna. It would be better that way, do you not think so too? It makes a lot of sense now, huh?” I asked, running over my words as quickly as I could in a nervous fit.
“Besides, you cannot have two alphas, you know? If Everett and I got married and we were two alphas of different packs, it would be weird, you know? How would we introduce ourselves to other people? Would the other were wolves not find it strange that two alphas are mated and married? Would we have to merge the packs? How would we rule side by side if we cannot be side by side? Is this some kind of punishment for when I accidentally tore Kylie’s curtain while cleaning and ran off without admitting that I was the one who had done it?” I asked, tears already pouring out of my eyes.
“Rachelle, calm down.” Aloha Graham said to me and I closed my eyes and tried to relax.
“You are currently the last living white wolf in the world. And since I was the former white wolf that led the Paz pack, it is only right that you take over since I am gone now, and I have got no children to continue. So technically, it is sort of your bloodline, Rachelle. Related by specie.” Alpha Graham said, cracking a genuine smile.
I laughed along with him too.
“And the other questions you had about merging the packs and/or going separate ways and the rest are things that you should think of, and carry out. Well, all of them except the part about Everett taking over. The paz pack is yours, not his. And I am not telling you what to do, just giving you an advice. Do you know that you can rule your packs differently, but still be allies? There is nothing wrong with two people being alphas of different packs and still being mated to each other. If anything, it makes you and your packs stronger. More formidable. The rest of the world should beware.” Alpha Graham said with a wink.
“Oh and alpha Graham?” I asked.
“Yes, Rachelle? What is it?” He asked patiently.
“Do you know why my wolf fur changed colors the other day? From the new white fur coat to the other normal black and brown I was used to seeing usually?” I shrugged, hoping that he would have an answer for me.
“Well, that one is easy.” He grunted. “Your fur changed colors because you were afraid. You were not ready to embrace the new you, and so the new you went back into its shell, into its hiding place.”
“You already have the white fur and the advantages that come with it. You just have to accept them and not overthink it, it is actually as easy as that. As easy as I am making it out to me. You should work on your confidence, my sweet. That is the only thing you would need to keep the presence of your white wolf with you.” He paused.
“Oh that, and you can switch from alpha mode to omega mode whenever it suits you, or whenever you feel like. That is one of the gifts the moon goddess has bestowed unto you. You are a very lucky wolf to have that power, Rachelle dear, you would have enemies, as every successful alpha is wont to have, but with this gift, you can easily trick them and find your way around their minds. You are special.” He said and I gasped.
I did not ask for all that power, but if the moon goddess had had all that bestowed upon me, who was I to complain, or to make problems with or about the issue?
“All that power for just little old me?” I asked and I was sure that my eyes were as wide as two soccer balls at that moment.
“Perhaps not, perhaps even more.” He looked at me and laughed. “You have more.”
“What? How is that even possible? Do you know what the powers are? What they involve? Oh please tell me, alpha Graham. I am so curious!” I asked excitedly.
“Curiosity killed the wolf.” He said with an amused look on his face.
“Satisfaction brought it back. Please tell me, won’t you?” I asked the dead alpha Graham.
“Every whit wolf has one or more unique powers, each different from another’s. But that does not mean that I would tell you yours. Only time can tell you things like this, and in due time, you would figure what your powers are. Just have some patience, wait a bit.” He said.
“Yes, because that sounds like a lot of fun.” I mumbled and sulked and he laughed.
“You are still the same whiny baby I used to know.” He nodded at me and I huffed in response.
“Alpha Graham? Do you know who my parents are? Do you know anything about them or if they are still alive and in hiding?” I asked him, but all I could hear were weird noises and words I’m that I could not make out.
Then there was a white, shrill noise.
“Alpha Graham? I cannot hear you, speak up please.” I said, but there was no response. With a small frown, I turned back, hoping that alpha Graham had somehow not heard me.
But when I turned back, there was no alpha Graham there, or anything else for that matter.
Then everything became blurry, and the strange, magical world I was in seemed to spin around me in quick rotating motions.
“Alpha Graham? Where are you? Come back, please, I still have other questions to ask you!” But there was still no response from alpha Graham, or anyone else, and then the spinning world had faded to black.
I was floating in nothingness. Everything was so empty and void of color.
And then suddenly, like a vacuum cleaner sucking up the trash and dirt out from a carpet, I felt myself get sucked with the speed of lightning and then immediately, I gasped and began to cough, trying to breathe properly.
What in the world of were wolves and in the name of the mother moon goddess was that?
I wondered as I tried not to die by choking on my own saliva.
That would be embarrassing, goddess knows.
Then I felt the sensation of a soothing hand on my back and of other people talking. I opened my eyes and blinked rapidly.
I was back at the priest’s place, and Everett was talking to the priest while he rubbed my back.
“It is just because she was suddenly transferred into her body. It happens all the time, she would be alright.” He said and I stopped coughing.
“I am alright now, Everett, it is okay.” I said in a quiet, raspy voice.
Everett hugged me quickly. “Are you alright? I was so afraid.” He said and I hugged him back.
“I am alright. I would explain all that had happened to you later, okay?” I nodded at him with a smile.
“Your mate was ready to kill me as you were not afraid yet.” The priest said and all of us laughed in unison.
We thanked the priest and left.
I was not too bothered about finding out who my parents were, as I was confident that a quick DNA test and match could find that out easily for me.
I went home with Everett and a wandering mind.
