Rachelle’s pov
It was another day; the fourth day at Paz pack as a slave and if I said I hated it, it would be an understatement. My body still hurt a bit in several places but it wasn’t as bad as before when I was still being held as a hostage. That didn’t deter other werewolves with authority from ordering me around though, they were all psychopaths in this pack because they all seemed to be enjoying the way I groaned in pain while running errands for them. They’d hit me and act oblivious, and if I spoke about it or complained, then there would be more hitting coming for me so I just kept shut and did as they said every time they ordered for me or Violet.
We woke up at the crack of dawn as we always did and got ready for the day, Violet helped me pull my sleeves up to my shoulder and zipped it up. We left for breakfast but it was all finished by the time we got there. Violet groaned and stormed off, she was clearly angry so I followed her hoping to calm her down and then we’d start our chores… I found her sitting in a corner away from people’s stares or attention and sat beside her “rough morning right?” I said trying to start a conversation and she sighed “I’m sick of this place Rachelle, nothing’s easy or nice. I don’t know if I can take it anymore. Sometimes I wonder if we should just… maybe attempt to run away” she told me and I quickly looked around to see if anyone was close enough to hear.
I looked at Violet with wide eyes and she shrugged “what? I’m sick of this place” she defended and sighed again “you shouldn’t say that Violet, I told you what happens to people that try to run away from here, I was just lucky and people hardly get lucky twice here. Again, we have eyes on us” I told her and she looked downcast “guess we’ll keep on waiting for Everett then. Whenever he decides to come” she replied and I took her hand, “you said Everett never left people behind even in the toughest of times so I know he’ll come for us… soon” I told her and she nodded then smiled at me “sometimes my faith in him wavers but I know he’s worried just as much as we are and will come for us” she said and I smiled back then we hugged “such an emotional moment” I mocked and we laughed before letting each other go “now go off, I want to be alone for a little more” Violet said and I understood so I left. She probably just wanted to pep talk herself to endure all that’s going on.
Violet’s pov
I sat there alone engulfed in my head and wondering how long this was going to go on before Everett would come along and save us. I knew Everett was stronger, the strongest alpha among all the alphas. He had the largest pack so he definitely had the highest amount of security and fighters. If anything was to happen, the king alpha’s pack was definitely going to emerge victorious. So he was at an advantage if he attacked this pack now… why he was delaying was what I kept wondering about. I trusted him though, Everett was the careful type, he always wanted to be sure before he got into anything because he always wants to finish it till the end and I knew that was what he was doing now… he was going to come, I was sure of that.
I heard footsteps from the other end of the corner and looked, it was Stellan. What was he doing here? He was carrying a leather bag and sent me a smile as he sat beside me and handed the leather bag to me. I opened it and it was food, so much of it I didn’t know I was smiling until I heard him laugh “you look so cute you know” he said and I scowled at him “even more now” he said again and I just ignored him “you shouldn’t be here” I told him “I’ve been watching you, every day and I noticed you didn’t get to eat breakfast with Rachelle so I brought you both something” he explained “thanks for the breakfast but this is dangerous, you could get into trouble for speaking to me” I told him and he frowned.
“I don’t care, I just wanted to speak to you” he said with a straight face that made me speechless. Why would he want to speak to me? “Why?” I voiced out my thought and he took my hand “I couldn’t stop thinking about you ever since I found out you were my mate” he said matter of fact again
“Forget it, it won’t work out” I said and pulled my hand from his hold “why would you say that?”
You don’t even know me Stellan” I almost yelled and he sighed “it starts from somewhere, at least I know your name” he defended and I didn’t know what else to say again. He was relentless and I couldn’t say I didn’t feel anything towards him anytime I found myself around him. It was an unexplainable pull towards each other that werewolves felt once they found out they were mates and we’re each other’s destinies. It was still rather shocking to know he was my mate and my destiny… was that how fast someone’s course of life could change so quickly?
“It’s just, you belong to this pack and I belong to another pack and both packs are against each other… it just seems impossible for any of this to work out” I told him with my head bowed. He placed his hand under my chin and raised my head to meet his eyes, the sun was out and his brown eyes were shiny now… just like I thought. He had light brown eyes, they were beautiful. “I like your eyes” I said and he gave a dimpled smile “I like your feistiness” he said referring to the first time we met when I jumped on his back, ready to make him pass out and I laughed when I remembered it, he joined in the laughter too and I began to feel at ease with him “thank you, you just made my morning”
“That was the plan” he replied and rested his back on the wall, facing the sun.
He was bigger than me, like two times my size and with him facing his side to me, I was able to access his facial features and boy! This man was a work of art. It was going to be difficult to resist him… I knew it deep inside me.
He had full pouty lips, tiny freckles that were hard to see except you were extreKyliey close to him scattered above his nose and his smile… It was really beautiful. “You can stop ogling now” he said and I blushed in embarrassment, he caught me “I wasn’t ogling” I tried denying it and he turned to face me then closed his eyes “what are you doing?” I asked and he replied
“Keeping still for you to get a perfect image of me” I laughed again and playfully punched him on his shoulder “that hurt quite a bit” he said and we both laughed.
I realized we were getting a bit loud and quickly pressed a finger against his lips, they were really soft. I stopped laughing too and checked around to see if anyone saw us. When I was sure the coast was clear, I turned back to him, my finger still on his lips. There was an intensity in his eyes and his pupils were bigger as he stared at me, his gaze not shaking. My breath hitched as I looked at the finger on his lips and pulled back immediately. He caught my hand immediately before I could take it away and pulled me dangerously close to himself “can I kiss you?” He almost whispered in a husky voice as his gaze travelled to my lips. I gulped and our eyes met “cause I want to” he added and I couldn’t speak… my tongue suddenly felt numb.
I wanted it too, surprisingly but as much my body screamed for this to happen, I didn’t think this was a good time or place. I suddenly remembered I had chores to do that I left Rachelle alone to do and scooted back from Stellan a bit “I don’t think that’s a good idea” I told him and the intensity I’m his eyes was gone like flash “I’m sorry, I guess I lost myself for a while. I apologize if I made you uncomfortable” he pleaded and I took his hand. He didn’t look as comfortable as he did before… I needed to do something to calm him down for future sake when we meet again.
“You’re not the only one that wanted it, I’ll be honest but I just didn’t think this was the right time or place to do this” I explained “also, I was ogling that time. I think you’re really handsome” I confessed and that brought a smile on his face “how handsome?” He inquired and I shrugged “it isn’t about your face alone. You have a good heart too and I don’t think this pack or the people in it deserve you, you shouldn’t be here” I told him and silence followed for a while as a strange look covered his face “it wasn’t always like this you know” he said and went on to explain it all to me. His mother died once she gave birth to him so he never knew her, only heard stories about her from his father and looked at her pictures.
Then at the age of seven, his father fell ill and didn’t recover for a very long time until he died. There was no guard Everett to care for him, no inheritance to be passed to him. His father’s house was seized by his uncles that he has never met before so he just wandered around for days alone, hungry and battered until a nun from the monastery saw him and took him in. He grew up there under their care for years and learnt a lot while going through a lot of hardship too in the hands of bullies in school. That didn’t deter him from being good though, he still struggled and studied hard so he could afford a living he deserved.
At eighteen, he was let go from the monastery. He proved himself to be efficient so he got a job to run errands once he was done with high school and sometimes was a personal assistant to werewolves of high ranking… earning him a lot whenever he got lucky. He was that good and he was content with the life he was living. I just stared at him with pride in my eyes “where have you been all these years Stellan, you seem so unreal… like people like you shouldn’t exist anymore cause the world doesn’t deserve you” I said and he laughed “thanks for the compliment” he said with a blush “you’re red” I teased and he looked away “I guess I should go away now, Rachelle would be waiting. She won’t be able to do the chores on her own” he told me trying to elude the tease of me accusing him of blushing and stood up, I stood up too and looked up at him “I guess It’ll take a while before I see you again” I said and stretched out my hand for a shake “it fun speaking to you mate” I added and he pulled me in for a hug instead “I won’t give my destiny a handshake” he whispered in my ear and placed a soft kiss on my forehead before running off.
I just stood there, both over the moon and speechless. I didn’t expect the big or kiss on my forehead but it felt really nice that I wanted it again.
