Book:Life After the Storm Published:2024-5-1

Six months have passed since we escaped hell. Life is finally beginning to feel normal. Which makes me feel terrified. I never wanted to leave Alaska where my family was from, where I was raised. But I knew I had no other choice. We had to escape to a place where wolves were almost seemed non-existing.
I wanted to go back for Landon. I wanted to save him no matter the cost, if it was just me. I would have died for him, but knowing that it would have risked Jayden’s life, I wasn’t willing to do so. I hate that he’s not here. I wanted to drop hints for him, so he would know where to go. But I knew that I couldn’t risk anyone else figuring the clues out. I know that Jayden misses him. I miss him too.
We figured out that other wolves didn’t sense us. Usually, a wolf can tell when another person is a wolf, but because of Jayden and I having healing powers. We go unnoticeable. It makes it easy for us to live in a human world. We know that our old life will catch up with us eventually, but for now, we are just trying to be the calm before the storm.
I’m not one for revenge, but I also wonder if there’s more like us. If they are suffering the same that they tried to pursue on us. Not knowing makes me crazy. I want to help those that can’t help themselves, but I need to figure out how to do so first.
I can’t just go in blind. I need to be able to not just escape them, but to beat them. So Then they won’t be able to ever hurt anyone ever again. I don’t want to kill my own kind. That’s why I need to figure out a way that I can beat them without killing those that are forced to follow them. Until I can figure that out, we have to stay in hiding.
We are starting to adjust to this life of normalcy. Jayden started school. I work crazy worrying if he is ok. Even though I am getting better at letting him go. My mind is still not at ease until he is home. I have been looking for a job, but I only want hours that Jayden isn’t around. I don’t want to be away from him more than what I have to be.
I have money that I hide from every one, so there is no need for me to worry about how to take care of us. But staying at home while he isn’t here is making me crazy. I just need something to keep me distracted until he is home.
I have been trying to figure out our powers, but I feel like an idiot, unsure of how to channel them. I would like to seek help, but I don’t know who I can trust. Every time I came to trusting anyone, they betrayed me. I want to be open to meeting people, but I don’t know how.
I always thought that once you lost trust in humanity, that basically you lost everything. My issue is I already lost everything, but am I willing to lose more. I feel that the only thing that matters is Jayden. Everything else just doesn’t I want him to be able to grow up to have a life.
Teach him along the way to be able to defend himself, to let him know all the horror that is out there for us. But for now, why not let him be a kid, make friends and live without the worry. He is finally smiling again, laughing. His birthday is coming. up he’s wanting to have a party.
So for now, living a normal life, I’m still going to be searching for answers. Hoping that someday my searching will result in Landon being with us again and us being able to live as family. I want to believe that it will be possible someday. I promised Landon that I would take care of Jayden, and that is what I’m going to do.
I go to look at the time and I notice that it is time for Jayden to be coming home. I become excited, missing him while he is at school. I go outside, and I watch for the bus to come. Listening to the birds chirping and enjoying the heat from the sun on my skin.
I see the bus in a far, I walk up to the end of the driveway as it stops. I smile, knowing Jayden is home, I then watch as Jayden is coming off the bus. Knowing, no matter what happens, he is my happiness and I will do whatever I need to do to protect him. So for now, we will be the calm before the storm.
