TESSA’S POV
“Hmm, are you ready to be a loser, Tessa?”
Evelyn smiled wickedly at me, running a hand through her hair and seemingly trying to scare the shit out of me. I gritted my teeth as I looked at her. She was a daughter of the delta of the pack and had outstanding popularity on the campus. Ever since I had become a part of this pack, she was one of the few werewolves who never liked me simply because I came from human territory. She was no doubt racist; she thought her blood had some kind of royalty and liked to be treated as a princess by everyone who surrounded her.
“You’ll never know what’s going to happen, Evelyn,” I said bravely and raised both of my fists.
“I’m beginning to hate you more,” she scowled at me, and the next thing I knew, she was making a move.
She ran towards me and tried to hit me with a punch on my face that I easily dodged. I held the arm she used to attack me and twisted it. Controlling the strength sitting on my stomach, I then threw her to the ground.
However, it was only a simple attack that wouldn’t hurt a shifter.
Evelyn was able to jump into the air and then descended behind me. She attempted to strike my back, but I crouched down and spun smoothly on her side before her arm landed on me and then struck her legs, making her kneel down. The crowd cheered and they were led by Mikhaela and Julie, who wanted me to defeat Evelyn.
My opponent snarled. Seconds later, her eyes glowed, turning from their usual amber color to a misty green. Her claws grew longer. Without any hesitation, she jumped once again and tried to slash my face, but I was able to push her. She floated in the air and fell to the ground.
“How dare you!” she screamed in embarrassment.
I didn’t let my guard down, for I knew Evelyn would not allow me to win just like that. She then stood across from me, her jaw clenching firmly.
“Do you think someone like you can easily defeat a daughter of the Delta?” she said angrily.
She sprinted towards me. I was about to make a turn to give her a high kick, but I gasped when I felt my feet stuck on the ground. My eyes widened as I tried to move, but to no avail.
What’s happening to me?
All of a sudden, my entire body became stiff. I couldn’t make any single movement, as if a great force was preventing me from doing so. My eyes roamed around to see if someone was doing this, but all I could see was my classmates cheering as they watched from the bleachers. Aside from that, nothing else.
Evelyn snarled. She was just right above me, her arm raised in the air with its sharp claws waiting to land on my body.
I can’t move at all…
My heart pounded wildly as Evelyn approached.
I shut my eyes until I felt a strike on my chest.
A gasp escaped my throat as soon as I felt the searing pain from her attack. When I opened my eyes to look at my chest, all I saw was the blood staining my clothes.
My head became fuzzy, and the next thing happened was that I fell to the ground.

ATLAS’S POV
As I lay down on the rooftop of my college building, my mind was suddenly filled with thoughts. Most of this is what I would have to do in order for fate to favor me in the battle I had gotten myself into. I was lost for quite a bit in my thoughts when I heard the cheerful laughter of some students going to the campus field.
I told myself I was going to ignore it, but my senses heightened after hearing Tessa’s gentle voice. My eyes, which were closed, instantly opened, and as I rose up in my direction, I saw their class settling down on the bleachers with a professor briefing them.
My gaze focused on Tessa.
Even if I was far from her, I could still see her beauty and innocence. That didn’t fail to make my wolf go crazy. She was like a sun. Whenever I saw her, the darkness would always go away. Whenever she smiled, the gloominess of my day would be forgotten, and my chest would be filled with nothing but positivity again.
I didn’t know what a mate was capable of making me feel until she came like a tidal wave; quite unexpected, sure, but the feeling was so ecstatic, leaving me with no choice but to do everything to keep close to her.
As I watched them, I then realized that they were having a practical exam for the midterm. It was nothing surprising, as I’ve dealt with such activity before to put a test on controlling my strength and enhanced abilities as a werewolf. The university was serious about teaching the students to be in control, as that was the only way everyone could adhere to laws and treaties between werewolves and other creatures living in the world.
The match happened between the students, and my attention was piqued when Tessa was called to fight against the Delta’s daughter.
A smile formed on my lips as I watched her fight the meanest she-wolf on campus. Whenever Tessa was able to dodge all of Evelyn’s attacks, a big part of me was so proud and wanted to kiss her. However, just when I thought she’d win the fight, I just found myself standing up with my eyes widening when something odd happened to Tessa.
“Tess, fight,” I growled lowly as I saw Evelyn was about to jump on her.
But she didn’t make a move; no, something was not allowing her to do so!
A sudden rush of dread coursed through my veins. I immediately jumped off the building and tried to stop Evelyn, but it was already too late. Her claws struck Tessa’s chest, making the blood splash all over the ground.
“Tessa!” I growled loudly and sprinted in her direction.
Evelyn was shocked to see me. Out of my anger, I grabbed her by the neck and shoved her on the bleachers, which made her pass out. Tessa was already on the ground, unconscious when I turned to her.
Everyone had started to panic. I scooped Tessa up and carried her. Even the professor was goddamn worried and stunned about what had just happened.
“Forget the job you have here. You should not have let this happened!” I snarled at her in fury.
“A-Atlas, I had no idea how things would end-”
I didn’t let him finish his speech as I already sprinted to the nearest clinic for Tessa to be helped. Luckily, the pack doctor was at the university and was quick to assist in checking up on her. I put her on the clinic bed and let the pack doctor do his job. Deep down, I could feel extreme worry, making myself unable to breathe properly.
“Tessa,” I said, hoping she would hear me while holding her hand. Then I glanced at thedoctor, r who was busy trying to stop the blood from coming out. “Make sure to save her!” I growled.
“I assure you we’re going to save her, future Alpha.”
My jaw clenched as I recalled what happened. I should’ve moved quickly…
After a few minutes, the pack doctor was able to stop the bleeding and proceeded with additional treatment needed for Tessa’s wounds. A nurse was helping out, putting some machines to help Tessa breathe and kept checking her heart pulse.
“How is it?” I asked worriedly as the pack doctor was quiet for almost ten minutes.
“She’s going to be fine.” He sighed after patching the last wound on her chest with gauze. “She’s saved.”
A relief washed over me as I stared down at my mate. Still holding her hand, I squeezed it, leaned down until our forehead touched.
“Fuck, you scared me to death…”
