Both her daughter and husband said so, so now Jessie’s mother believed it.
Jessie’s mother could not hide her surprise in her eyes, “How could this happen? How could he suddenly lessen his hatred towards us?”
At this question, both Jessie’s father and Jessie fell silent.
Because neither of them could answer, no one knew what was going on with George and why he had suddenly lessened his hatred towards them.
Unless, they went to ask George.
But should they ask?
Jessie looked at Jessie’s father.
Jessie’s father hesitated for a few moments before finally shaking his head, “It’s better not to, no matter why exactly he has lessened his hatred towards us, let’s pretend we don’t know, don’t ask him the reason, in case he gets angry and overturns everything he promised us before, it would be troublesome.”
Jessie’s mother nodded, “Your father is right, just pretend you don’t know. We’ll take care of him first, and later, see if we can get rid of him, if we can, then of course it’s best, if not, alas…”
The words that followed, she didn’t say, but the meaning was understood by all.
For a while, the family of three once again fell into silence, and it took a while before the silence was broken.
Jessie’s mother patted Jessie’s shoulder and said softly, “Alright, don’t think too much.”
Jessie squeezed the corners of her mouth, “I know, it’s almost time, I’ll go in and check on him to see if he’s finished with the soup so I can clean up the dishes.”
“Go ahead.” Jessie’s mother nodded her head.
Jessie got up, walked to the door of George’s ward, raised her hand and knocked on the door, “Mr. Joe, it’s me, can I come in?”
“Come in.” George’s voice came from inside the door, his voice was calm, without the slightest hint of hatred or hostility in it.
Jessie’s father and Jessie’s mother looked at each other.
At this moment, Jessie’s mother was completely convinced that George indeed had no hatred towards them.
The reason for this was too curious and shocking to them.
But they had no intention to ask.
As they had just said, what if they asked in case he became annoyed?
“Shall we go in?” Jessie’s mother asked, looking at Jessie’s father.
Jessie’s father shook his head, “No, he always thought it was us who killed his parents, so his hatred for us is higher than Jessie, maybe he is doing this to Jessie and still hates us just as much.”
“You’re right, then fine, let’s wait here for Jessie.” Jessie’s mother smiled.
Jessie’s father said nothing more, taking her hand in a silent soothing gesture.
In the ward, the first thing Jessie did when she entered was to look at the hospital bed to see if the man on the bed had finished drinking.
This look revealed that the man on the hospital bed was not holding a bowl, but a medical journal, which made Jessie confused, “Mr. Joe, haven’t you had your soup?”
Jessie angrily nudged towards the position at the head of the bed.
Jessie looked over and realized that the bowl of soup he had served himself earlier was gone and had turned into an empty bowl.
It was evident that he had already drunk it up.
Not knowing why, Jessie was more or less happy in her heart, but her face did not show it, silently walking over and picking up the empty bowl, “Mr. Joe, do you want more?”
“No.” George shook his head, “It’s enough, it tastes good, did you cook it yourself?”
He looked at her.
Jessie lowered her eyes and avoided his gaze, “Thank you for the compliment, it was me who made the soup.”
“As I recall, you don’t seem to know how to make soup.” George said again, propping his head up with one hand.
Jessie said, “I learnt it from my mother and failed a few times before I succeeded.”
George slightly lifted his chin, “Not bad.”
Jessie tilted her head, now somewhat confused as to what exactly he meant by not bad.
Was he actually complimenting her on her cooking skills, or was he saying that she was good at learning to make soup from her mother?
Without thinking much about it, Jessie loaded up the dishes, “Mr. Joe, I’ll go wash the dishes, if there’s anything, feel free to call me.”
“Mm.” George answered.
Jessie carried the thermos bucket towards the kitchen.
It was a high class ward rather than an ordinary ward, it was a small suite with a kitchen and bathroom inside.
It was just that the kitchen didn’t look clean, which was why she hadn’t planned to make soup here, but to have it sent over from home.
But it was not bad to wash things here.
As Jessie washed the dishes and buckets in the kitchen, she suddenly heard the sound of voices from outside.
Jessie eased the movements and turned down the tap, listening secretly to hear what was being said outside.
In fact, even though she did so, she still couldn’t hear what was being said outside, and could only vaguely hear some words, such as “the operation was a success”, “the recovery schedule” and so on.
All in all, Jessie was confused by what she heard.
But then she thought, he should be talking to the patient’s family on the phone, after all, he was a doctor, it was impossible for the patient’s family to call him to ask him about the patient’s subsequent recovery.
Thinking, Jessie didn’t listen any more, turned the water up a bit and continued to speed up the action to finish washing.
Soon, the dishes and the thermos bucket were clean.
Jessie put them into a basket and came out of the kitchen with the basket.
George also happened to have finished his phone call and looked over towards her, “Ready to go back?”
Jessie nodded slightly, “Put the things back.”
After all, in order to take care of him, she had opened a companion room here and was staying overnight here as well.
So, even if she had to go back, she would still come over.
George slightly raised his chin, “Go ahead.”
“Mm.” Jessie answered, then carried the basket towards the door.
Just as she reached the door and opened it, George suddenly said, “Jessie, do you want to recover your memory?”
This question froze Jessie, and she didn’t know how to answer for a while.
Outside the door, Jessie’s father and mother had been watching the movement in the ward for fear that George would do something to their daughter, so when they heard the door open, they immediately stood up from the chair.
As a result, just as they stood up, they heard this question from George to Jessie.
At once, Jessie’s father became furious and dragged Jessie behind him, then glared at George in the hospital room, “What did you say, brat? What do you mean? Who wants to recover memory? I’m telling you, our Jessie doesn’t want her memory back, what’s the point of getting it back? What’s the point of remembering you? To keep suffering? Don’t mention this topic again? And don’t try to get Jessie’s memory back, If I find out, we’ll all go to hell together. I’ll do what I say.
After saying this, Jessie’s father directly took Jessie’s hand and headed for the lift.
Jessie’s mother looked at George with mixed feelings for a moment, then closed the door of the ward and chased after him in the direction that father and daughter had left.
In the lift, Jessie’s father let go of Jessie’s hand, exasperated.
Jessie bit her lower lip and didn’t say anything.
Jessie’s mother pressed the floor button, then looked at Jessie, seeing Jessie in deep thought, her heart sank, but she did not disturb, but turned her gaze to Jessie’s father, “What do you think he means by this?”
Jessie’s father grimaced coldly, “Hmph, what else can he mean? He wants Jessie to regain her memory and continue suffering, sure enough, what with the alleviation of hatred towards us, this is simply a fake!”
