Harry actually knew about Shirley’s existence earlier than Patrick did. At that time, Jennifer was searching for potential partners for Patrick, but she couldn’t find a suitable one. Patrick, who had just come of age, was under a lot of pressure and had become very moody.
Before long, the incident occurred. Patrick’s pheromones erupted all at once. The repressed scent filled the air, and many people noticed it. Patrick, overwhelmed by uncontrollable pheromones, acted erratically, and it took several gamma guards to restrain him.
Jennifer found him and insisted that Patrick must now be assigned a sexual partner.
Harry was somewhat hesitant.
Jennifer said, “Have you ever considered whether, the next time he loses control, our guards will be able to restrain him unharmed? As his power grows, he must learn to control himself. Otherwise, it will be bad for everyone.”
Harry could only provide Jennifer with the information he had gathered, but he didn’t expect that Shirley would be the one chosen by Jennifer in the end.
“I’m not sure why she chose an omega who sells alcohol in a bar. She had plenty of other options, but in the end, she chose the most unexpected one. Privately, we all thought that perhaps Jennifer saw something else in her qualifications, or maybe they reached some kind of agreement in secret,” Harry remarked.
Nicola added, “It’s just speculation, there’s no actual evidence.”
Emma seized on an important piece of information, “So Jennifer chose Shirley?”
Harry shrugged, “Most likely. Whenever anything related to Patrick’s partner comes up, Jennifer is always behind the scenes pushing things along. I think Patrick himself should be aware of this, but he won’t have a reason to reject Shirley unless he finds his destined partner in a short time, or unless he falls for someone else and is certain he wants to be with that person. Otherwise, Jennifer will continue to push Shirley to harass him.”
Emma sighed softly, muttering, “Alright.”
She was feeling very disheartened at this point. She didn’t have a wolf, nor did she have many wolf genes. It was impossible for her to be Patrick’s destined partner. Moreover, they were essentially siblings.
But these weren’t the worst of it. The worst part was that Jennifer stood between them. Jennifer despised her, so how could she tolerate becoming Patrick’s partner?
In the next moment, Emma suddenly startled herself with her thoughts.
These were not things she should be thinking. She should be here, striving to reach adulthood and saving enough money to return to the Blue Moon Pack. A partner wasn’t part of her life plan.
But Patrick’s face kept appearing in her mind, his gentle expression, his smile, and his warm and comforting presence, all making her reluctant to leave.
Nicola coughed, “Girl, you’re overthinking. Relax.”
Emma panicked, lifting her head. She was finally starting to feel afraid, realizing that she was not thinking straight. She had developed a dependence on Patrick beyond that of a brother, and any feelings beyond that were not something she should be hoping for. She had to really keep herself in check. She regretted her impulsive actions.
She was trembling all over, afraid of everything. What would happen if her extra feelings for Patrick were exposed? Could she still stay here? Could she still see Patrick? Would he give her up for Jennifer?
She didn’t know anything.
“Hey,” Nicola leaned in close to her, and Emma suddenly saw a big face in front of her. “I mean, you’re too tense. Don’t be so uptight.”
Harry also looked at her, “She’s right. You’re putting too many restrictions on yourself. This isn’t what you should be worrying about.”
Emma didn’t know what she should do at this point; she was only sixteen. Some feelings for her were both ambiguous and dangerous, and she was afraid that these incorrect feelings would hurt everyone.
“I don’t know if this is right,” she said softly. These two people in front of her were her only friends since she arrived here. “The difference in status between him and me is too great.”
Nicola took her hand, “Darling, don’t worry. From what I know about Patrick, he’s not someone who cares about status differences. As long as you are the person he loves, you can be together.”
Harry widened his eyes, finding Nicola’s thoughts truly inscrutable.
“A few days ago, you told me that you thought the difference in status between you and Patrick was too great, and you didn’t want to be his Luna,” Harry said, his expression unchanged. Then he turned back to Emma and continued, “Listen, sweetheart, I don’t really like Patrick that much anymore. He’s just a friend. And I’m not interested in everything that comes with being a Luna, so I don’t want to take the risk of becoming his Luna.”
“But you’re different. You reallyseem to like him a lot, you didn’t say it, but your actions show it. We can all see it,” Emma looked at her blankly.
The things Patrick left her made her feel warm.
“I’m not very sure what ‘liking someone’ really means,” she said softly. “No boy has ever pursued me before.”
Nicola looked at her earnestly, encouraging her to continue.
“I find it hard to bear the thought that one day I will have to leave him, and another girl will become his Luna. It hurts.”
Emma didn’t know how she started crying.
Nicola handed her a tissue, “Emma, it’s okay, it’s okay. Trust me, you just haven’t met the right time. You’re sincere, kind, and lovely. You deserve the best.”
“Thank you,” she said as she wiped her reddened eyes.
Harry and Nicola exchanged a troubled look. Nicola could only embrace Emma, patting her back, just like she used to care for the baby next door when she was young, as Emma cried uncontrollably in her arms.
She asked Nicola, “Do you really think I deserve the best?”
Nicola whispered to her, “Of course you do. You deserve everyone in the world to love you.”
