Nate…
That fucker was unexpected, but I’m glad that I can proudly say we never got close enough for this to faze me much.
However, I’m not sure how Kasan will take this news. Him, the twins and Kenley were of the few that he seemed to trust. At the moment, he thinks Kenley is a traitor… now this guy too.
And as for the companion…
“How’s it going, sister-in-law?” A grin plastered on Lora’s lips. Smugly, she tilted her head to side as she lifted her arm to settle her elbow on Nate’s shoulder.
“It was quite difficult for me when you saw my tattoo that day, luckily, I shot my shoulder instead of anywhere else.” She laughed, cocking the gun she had been carrying.
With her head leaned to one side, I could clearly see the tattoo she spoke of, as if she deliberately wanted me to. It was a snake’s head peeking out at the crook of her neck and the rest covered by the bandages wrapped over her shoulder.
So, it was not a ‘him’?
‘She’ was the nightwalker bitch all along?
But I…I could’ve sworn…the tattoo was exactly on the neck! Was I too out of it? Did I make a stupid mistake?! Still, how could none of Kasan’s men know of her tattoo?! Has she been that careful?
Fuck.
“I don’t know if you were dumb or just blind, but I’m thankful I didn’t have to get rid of it completely.”
I blinked, “How did you–”
“How did I deceive your man? Well for one, this identity isn’t mine, but I made sure he wouldn’t have any reason to doubt me.”
But…I never once suspected her or Nate and I’m the type to sus any and everyone. The way she acted…as if she was a brat who hated Kasan because he didn’t save her father. Even if I managed to catch on with Nate, I would’ve never suspected her, especially since we were so stupidly sure the nightwalker was a male.
No, I should’ve known…
She said she got shot when she tried to stop the intruder from reaching my room but just how many shots did we actually hear that day? One when she shot the door, one which was the warning shot and the other when she shot Lucas. I don’t remember hearing any more until after Lucas and I jumped.
Now that I think of it, was that warning shot meant for Lucas? Did he know all along who she was? Did he help her?
No, he wouldn’t have gotten the chance. He even refused to go see her.
He helped me that day despite the risks and kept holding me close, trying to prote-
‘Alpha’s currently in the building, you need to leave!’
He said that, didn’t he? …what if he wasn’t talking to me that time…but ‘her’?
“You’re so deep in thought despite seeing your enemies before you. I hope you’re not accusing my mate in that little head of yours…because he didn’t betray you people. He’s as loyal as they come. Don’t make things hard for him, I’d be devastated if he dies from worrying nonstop about you. And to be honest, I’m a little jealous.”
I glared at her, ripping my wrist out of her hold and taking a few well-needed steps back. “And why should I trust your words?!”
She shrugged. “If meeting Lucas didn’t mess up my plans, I would’ve killed you ages ago. But he’s obsessed with you so I couldn’t bare to make him suffer. I was truly glad when they told me you were off the hitlist, Lucas’ family is my family after all.”
So all that bullshit about wanting nothing to do with Lucas…was that an act as well?!
“You’re scaring her off with all that Lucas talk.” Nate smacked her hand off his shoulder, but the mere movement made my feet take an immediate fighting stance on instinct. He chuckled as if noticing.
“When are you going to take the bandages off? You’ve already healed.”
“I’m not a werewolf like you people, a gunshot wound doesn’t heal so easily. Speaking of which, I’m contemplating whether I should become one of you guys or not, a wolf…” Lora’s eyes shifted back to me. “Will it be easier for Lucas to open up that way? Or does he like humans over werewolves? I’m willing to drink your blood if he wants me to, he just has to say the word.”
My fists tightened. “Stay away from him you psycho bitch!”
“No no no.” Her laugh echoed through the empty space. “I’m not a psycho. I’m simply fascinated by how drawn I am to your brother. But it sucks that he doesn’t like me very much, he only seems to care about you. However, I must say, this guy here…” She gestured to Nate. “…is the real psycho.”
“Shut up and go get the men ready.” He clicked his tongue.
“Are you sure you’ll be fine by yours—”
“She’s nothing without guns. I’ll be fine.”
“I guess you’re right.” Smirking, Lora left through the door and after sending a wink my way, she closed it behind her.
“My father hates werewolves.” Nate proceeded to yap as soon as she left the room, meanwhile I continued to glare at him like the scum he is. His feet moved forward, circling me as his gaze swept around the room sluggishly. I watched him, keeping my eyes on his every move. I wasn’t going to lunge at him. I couldn’t. The fact that he doesn’t care to stay in this room alone with me, means he doesn’t see me as any sort of threat. He can probably kill me within the moment I could blind.
“He refused to work with the elder but I took immediate interest when they offered me a whole wolf pack of my own. He had no idea he’d been so close to a werewolf, yet he swore to kill them all. It’s funny. I wish he could’ve lived to see his nightmares become a reality, but he was getting too bothersome. I needed your mother to turn at least half of his men so I killed him when he least expected it. You should’ve seen his face when I took my claws out right before his eyes!” He grinned. “I guess Terra dying soon after was the punishment I got for killing my own father, but if anyone asked if I regret it, then my answer would be no. A stupid fuck like that should die over and over again, don’t you think?”
My breath hitched.
“Did you…. kill her? Terra?”
There was this sudden dip in my stomach. Surprise maybe?
If we had met, would this revelation make me feel any different?
“That’s a stupid thing to say when we needed her more than anyone. She was just too old to keep up. Besides, she kept running off and uselessly overworking her fragile bones, her death is her own fault. Luckily, she wasn’t swept away by any other greedy Alpha.”
My lips twisted. “You’re fucking crazy!”
“I saw the fire in your eyes the first time I saw you. I’m glad you’re still the same. I think we’ll get along fine, just as we’ve been doing.”
“Don’t talk as if we’ve ever been friends!”
“That breaks my heart, Clara. We were close, we even shared a pretty sweet bond compared to all the other pests. Which brings me to say, if I were to breed you, would our children also have the same ability? My own flesh and blood?”
My fist went for his face in an instant, slamming into his jaw with as much strength as I could muster. His head snapped to the side, blood spurting from his lips.
I scowled. “Do you think I’m some kind of toy? You don’t get to do what you fucking want! Kasan WILL rip you apart and I’ll be there to watch… Mark my words you fucking lunatic!!”
“Your confidence is admirable.” His thumb wiped the blood from the side of his lips, as his head slowly turned back in my direction. He grinned despite his busted lip, the excitement in his eyes getting clearer. Slowly, his tongue ran over his bloody thumb, licking it clean. “But your mate doesn’t even know you’re gone. I can only imagine what he’s doing to his innocent brother right now as we speak. I only gave him a few photos of Kenley and Father and he instantly began to doubt his brother’s loyalty. I bet he’s currently thinking of the most agonizing ways to kill him. I can’t deny that he’s even more ruthless than I. It’s why father never disclosed that he had another child. He was scared a ‘fragile human’ like me would be hunted and killed, yet he made me spy on Kasan like an idiot. But thankfully, I joined the elders not long after, so I had no problem squeezing my way into the pack as he wanted. Still, can you believe that geezer? I never liked how he did things, like a fucking stupid coward!” He cackled.
His loud sinister laughter irked me to the point where I felt like I’d start bleeding from my ears any second. How could he hide this disgusting side of him all this time? He was always the one around me so we’ve held the most conversations compared to the others. He seemed like the most normal one of them all, but who would’ve thought that he’s the craziest fucking lunatic anyone can find?!
They’re all wolves that live in packs, yet there’s so much betrayal among them. No one can be trusted. No one can be truly safe. But one thing is for sure, Kenley is in danger. If Kasan ends up killing him, how much will he regret it?
“Enough of your fucking nonsense, I’m not interested in your long line of stories. Where’s are my parents? And Lucas…where the hell is he?”
“Lucas?” He hummed. “You know…that guy was always pitiful from the very moment he came to the pack. Since he wasn’t a pure werewolf, he would always do any and everything to get Kasan’s attention, whether it meant kneeling at his feet or bringing him the heads of his enemies. He even volunteered to take on the most dangerous jobs in hopes that we’d let him into our pack for good. Those constant attempts to please Kasan were the reason he kept getting injured. It was pitiful indeed. The d—”
“And what of it?” I clenched my jaw. “My brother doesn’t need pity from filth like you. At least he’s more loyal than you can ever be. You’re nothing but a shitty mutt who was so spoilt by his idiotic father that you even think like a fucking child! I don’t know what kind of shit you’re planning, but I can tell you this, you’re no match for Kasan. I doubt you can even come close to Kenley either. You’re nothing but scu—”
Fingers grabbed me quicker than I could blink, digging into my jaws as his sharp nails pricked through the skin.
“Shut the fuck up and let me finish.”
