***ZANE’S POV***
Reaper does a good job driving through the Aloha district to Lake Side City.
My men are with me and I am more than annoyed.
Tricking us to go to the port thinking that Michael would be there was the silliest thing I have done. My head hurts but more, it’s the fact that London had come face to face with danger.
“I should have been there,” I say as I stare forward, staring into space.
Reaper grunts and I know it is affecting him too. My chest hurts so much I think I might need medicals.
“Should we stop at the hospital, boss? You look uncomfortable,” Reaper says turning his head back to the road, focusing his attention on it.
“No, just get me home. I need to be with London right now,” I say sighing
“He is whipped,” Sinner mutters under his breath and Reaper chuckles.
“Assholes,” I mused.
There is no feeling like a man whose wife is under the attack of men who are sent to hurt her and he is trapped because of distance.
We should have taken the helicopter, fuck, I should have sent an entire army to my house and got it all sealed up when I got the call.
Closing my eyes, I make sure the pressure reduces before I set them open. Staring into dark space, Reaper takes the last bend and I see the hotel where we are staying.
“Secure the area is secured. Sinner, come with me,” I say as I open the car and rush outside.
The wait on the elevator was killing me, I had to count from 1 to 10 several times in my head and when the tinging sound came, I looked up to the elevator opening to total chaos.
The men that were stationed outside of the house for protection were there, lying on the wall… Lifeless.
I stepped on them and entered the house, an unknown face was lying on the floor, just in front of the door and he had a bullet through his eyes.
I felt disgusted, I had to press my hand across my mouth, halting any attempt to vomit.
“Zane, up here,” I hear Micah’s voice calling out for me and I rush out in haste, running to her with everything I am worth.
“Get the men to clean this up. This never happened,” I say, staring at Reaper.
He nods, turning to go and speak to Carlos.
Carlos had come with his men to Lake Side City. The Night wasn’t over yet, and they were loyal to us, even though the mission had changed.
Upstairs, I take the corridor leading to my room when a freaked-out Micah walks out, his hand grabbing his waist.
There was blood on his hand, so I noticed the plaster on his side where the bullet wound was soaked.
“Zane!” he calls out again as he closes the distance with me.
“Where is London?” I ask and he nods towards the room.
“You wouldn’t want to see this, Zane. My sister has zoned out on me. She wouldn’t even notice you are in the room,” he says as I push him aside to walk into the room.
The room is scattered, and that breaks my heart so much.
But I don’t care, it is the look of despair on my wife’s face that has me clutching my chest.
She has her body on the floor, causing her head to pop out, and she lays on whoever bastard is on the floor.
His face is smashed into a pulp, he is unrecognizable, and he is cold as hell.
“I left detention a few hours ago with the instruction to come and protect London. I didn’t know why. When I walked in, I saw your man’s death and a fucker walking upstairs. I shot him dead and rushed upstairs, that is when…” he stutters, his eyes swelling with tears.
I don’t urge him to continue, I just let him take his time until he is ready to continue.
After a moment, he said pointing at the corpse, “He was on top of London when I arrived. Half assaulting, half choking her to death,” he finished and sulked his breath.
If the fucker wasn’t already dead, I would send him to hell myself.
“If you saved London, how did London end up killing the man then and blaming herself?” I ask noticing the broken vase on the floor.
This time, I hear Micah sniff beside me.
“That’s the worst part because this guy kicked me out of his body and before I could restart myself, he was choking me, fighting him became difficult and I was almost dead when London stepped up, smashing the vase we were standing on his head. She didn’t stop until he had stopped breathing,” he says.
London must really have been taken aback by the fact that a man was going to kill her family. She would do everything for Micah, especially steal from me to give him.
That aside, I needed to protect London. She needs all the protection she can get, especially from such a scene displayed before her.
“Doc would come here to check on London. He would bring along his nurse to check you out,” I say walking towards the closet and picking out some of my comfortable clothes.
I moved them to the bedroom of a guestroom in my penthouse. Shortly, I came back to London and she was still on the corpse’s body. I hate that.
Grabbing her in my arms, I lift her gently, bridal style, making sure her body sticks to my chest, covering the space up.
She whimpers, still disoriented, but I don’t utter a word.
Inside the guest bedroom, I close the door behind us, walk to the bathroom, and place her on the sink, she sits, her eyes on her palms.
The second I turn my back to London I start filling the tub, I hear a thump and look back to see London has fallen from the sink.
“Jesus fucking Christ, baby,” I cry out rushing to her, wanting to know if she is alright.
