DAMON
For a minute, my legs were frozen to the floor, my heart was beating faster than normal as fear crept into me.
How did I not see this side of Claire all these years? Has she always been like this? Slowly, I walked up to her and grabbed the collar of her shirt.
“Where did you keep Olivia? What did you do to her? She’s only a young girl, she’s not even an adult yet. Why would you hate her?” I hollered
“You were keeping her too close to you and it was bothering me,” Claire said. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to calm my raging nerves.
“If you were glad that I survived, why have you not done anything to take the poison out of my body?” I walked closer to her.
“Because I can’t do anything about it, the poison in your blood. The only way you can get rid of it is by replacing your blood with another”
I would need to replace my blood. “What kind of poison did you use?” I growled.
“That does not matter. Olivia will be good for the job, she’s young and agile. Killing her will be a piece of cake, I will help you, Damon”
At that point, I was way beyond livid. “You are spewing nonsense” I couldn’t understand her. For the first time, Claire felt like a stranger to me. Someone I am not familiar with in any way.
Since she just suggested that I take Olivia’s blood, it means that she did not kill her. Relief washed over me, at the thought of that.
The door opened and Douglas came rushing inside. Without thinking twice about it, I pulled out his sword and aimed it at Claire.
There is no reason for me to keep her if she is not going to talk about the things I want to hear, I will find Olivia myself.
“I loved you as a friend, I saw you as someone that radiated light. Always lively, friendly, and playful but I was wrong” I pushed the sword to her neck with a tightened jaw.
“You are nothing but an obsessed freak who gets angry at others’ happiness. Olivia might be my mistress but I’d choose you over her in most circumstances and if it was Tiana, she’d urge me to look out for you” I gnashed my teeth together.
“But your fantasies of being with me have destroyed everything. I have no reason to keep you alive anymore, let’s end the ties I created by being your friend since childhood”
Her blood splashed all over my face as I slashed her throat, leaving her falling down in a pull of her blood. I don’t care who the person is, I will punish anyone who tramples on my feet.
She was glad that I survived? The past three years have been the toughest years of my life. I have been living in pain due to the poison and in most cases, I can’t live like other wolves.
The only thing that has kept me strong is the fact that I inherited my mother’s power. She was from a special breed of werewolves, totally different from normal wolves.
I watched as Claire’s lifeless body fell to the floor. I never thought I would be the one to kill her but keeping her alive would have been the hardest thing for me.
I can’t keep someone who murdered my mate alive, she will meet Tiana up there and apologize to her before she is thrown into hell.
I threw the sword on the floor and dusted my blood stained hands before turning towards Douglas.
“The mistress has been found but…she is not in a good condition. She was taken straight to the infirmary” I was already at the door before he could say anything else.
“Take out her body” I yelled from the door without bothering to wash my hand and I took off. Olivia got hurt because of me, just the thought of that created an unsettling feeling inside me.
*****************
Olivia’s eyes slowly opened as I sat beside her on the bed, she was severely injured. She was hit on the head and stabbed in her abdomen, thankfully, it did not hit her vital organs.
“How do you feel?” I asked. She looked around the unfamiliar place with a smile on her face and she groaned in pain when she tried sitting up but failed.
She has been here for almost two hours.
“You are in the infirmary” I helped her sit up, relaxing her back on the bed frame. There was still a confused look on her face but I am not ready to explain anything to her.
“Are you stupid?” I fired. Olivia’s eyes shone innocently in disarray for obvious reasons. I creased my forehead together, running my hand through my hair.
“Why did you go out with Claire when you don’t feel comfortable around her?” I scolded.
“She apologized for the way she treated me and wanted to be friends with me, I thought she was being sincere” she bit her lips and bowed her head.
“Why didn’t you tell me about the way she treated you? Was I not supposed to know?” I furiously yelled at her, ignoring the fact that she is a patient right now.
She flinched to the sudden pitch of my voice. “You wouldn’t have believed me even if I did!” she retorted with a roll of her eyes as if she was tired of my nagging.
But she is right, I would not have believed her. Until now, Claire was like an angel to me. I thought she would never hurt a fly.
It was my fault for not noticing that sooner, I am just barking at the wrong tree. I inhaled sharply and moved closer to her on the bed.
“You got hurt because of me, I am sorry for not keeping my promise of protecting you” For the first time in my life, I apologized.
I have never been the one to apologize to anyone even if I am at fault so why did I just do that? I shook my head to get rid of my thoughts.
I only did that because I felt the need to, Olivia was in danger. It could have turned sour if Claire wasn’t caught on time.
“I promise, this will never happen again because I will make sure to remove any obstacle in your way. Just like I did to Claire”
