When Sarah’s eyes fluttered open, the headache that hit her full dose was the first to make her wince and then the realization that she had been drunk whole night yesterday was the second. Firstly, she took a breather then rolled over unto her stomach and propped herself up on one hand while the other pressed against the top of her aching head. Her eyelids were pressed closely together, each twitch a sign of the ravaging headache she was experiencing. This had happened last time and that alone should’ve been enough to stop her from doing it again, but it seems it’d have to take more than that…. sadly. Now, as consequence, she’d have to face Damon Kalesto… the BIG, BAD AND GRUMPY Damon to be precise. Perhaps, he’ll even go as far as ignoring her for the whole day!
Hopefully, it doesn’t get to that.
In the interim, Damon was standing behind the door well aware of the pain she was currently feeling… mostly because he too was also feeling the same aftermath of drunkenness. He had done a few, no a lot of embarrassing things last night, things that if it were to be disclosed to his subjects, their respect would definitely decline. But something was more important and bothersome than even all his subjects combined, something that made his arms tense by his side and his mind fill with anticipation. He was anxious, more anxious than he had ever been in his entire life.
For what, you ask? Well for one, he had done something unimaginable. Maybe even unimaginable wasn’t a good enough fit for what he had done. Terrible, awful, unnerving…. how was he supposed to put it into words? He wasn’t sure, but he knew that he couldn’t take it back, all he could do now was to set things straight… well try to atleast. The thought of it alone made his mind scream ‘impossible and blasphemous’…. a King apologizing? And not just any King, an Alpha King?….. he still got chills even from thinking about it. But as consequence, he’d have to face Sarah and drag an apology out of his mouth whether he liked it or not.
And so with both parties terrorized by the thought of merely spotting eachother, they went for the door while taking baby steps that was paved with nothing but hesitance and anticipation. Sarah was the bravest of the two, as she was the first to grab the door handle and with a deep breath she pulled, coming face to face with Damon.
Sarah wasn’t prepared, not for the hard long glare she was surely going to receive nor the explosives he was going to throw her way, but to her surprise, she didn’t get to experience such an unfavourable situation. Damon’s eyes weren’t pinning her down with anger, instead it was filled with something, something that she didn’t quite understand. And neither could she understand what the heck was going on when he flinched, literally flinched at the sight of her!
“What’s wrong?” Was her first words to him and in response he immediately drowned in surprise, his eyes widening. He stood still for a long time, almost as if he was setting his thoughts straight.
“What’s wrong?” Sarah repeated her question, her feet drawing a step closer to him as she cocked her head to the side in confusion.
“I brought you breakfast.” He outstretched the tray he was holding towards her and smiled softly, an awkward smile that made him seem weirdly suspicious.
“You brought me food? I thought you’d come stalking in with a pitch fork or a whip or something.” She carefully took it from his hands and smiled back at him. “You usually get mad whenever I drink.”
“…. so… you don’t remember crawling on the floor or anything do you?” He took a hesitant look up at her face then his gaze retreated to her chest for some odd reason. After that move, Sarah could easily tell that something fishy was going on, really really fishy.
“I crawled on the floor? Seriously? With Katie around?” She facepalmed whilst shaking her head. “I can’t even imagine how stupid I must’ve looked.”
“You really don’t remember anything?” Damon asked again, this time his eyes looked hopeful.
Sarah narrowed her gaze. She had definitely done something embarrassingly irreversible… much like last time. Judging by Damon’s weird behaviour, there was no doubt about it. “Did I lick the floor as well… or something even crazier? Hurry up and tell me so I can prepare to face Katie atleast.” She rose an expectant brow and Damon stiffened in place, his lips seeming to press harder against each other. “Come on!” Sarah insisted, following his gaze with her face when he looked away from her. “Come on, Damon. It can’t be that bad!”
“Sarah?” A call came from the side and Sarah turned in the direction of the voice and spotted Katie slowly approaching. Her fingers were fidgeting with eachother and she was visibly trying to avoid both their gazes, mostly Damon’s. If Sarah was seeing right, then they both were acting in the same way…. suspiciously that is. Could it be that both her and Katie had done something embarrassing in front of Damon? Or did Damon do something embarrassing in their presence?
“I think I left my necklace in your room.” Katie said, stopping around three feet away from them. As soon as she said that, Damon flat-out turned his face in another direction and ignored her as a whole, a fully charged scowl on his face. But besides anger, Sarah could also tell that Katie had made him somewhat uneasy, uneasy enough for his eyes to start shifting between hazel and golden.
With a brow raised and a mind full of questions, she looked between the two, from Katie to Damon then from Damon to Katie.
…. and then within seconds, the bomb came crashing down without so much as a warning…. that bomb called memories. Everything suddenly started coming back…. every heart-wrenching memory… What she herself did when she was drunk… what Katie did and more importantly… what Damon had done.
