“Human, I need clothes!” A female voice echoed from the guest room then down the stairs and into Sarah’s ears. Sarah balled her fingers into a fist and twisted her body around. Her glaring eyes first roamed towards the man who was sitting on the couch in a daze, then redirected up the stairs in the direction that Katie resided.
Ever since Katie started staying here, she has forever been tormenting her. Go get that, go do that… it was as if she was her personal secretary or rather, her personal slave. And frankly, Sarah was sick and tired of her so much that she wished Damon had kicked her out… despite her calamity.
And the same goes for Damon Kalesto. If she could kick him out then she would. He was irritating, frustrating… and any other annoying thing you could think of. As of the moment she started living here, he has not been himself. He doesn’t talk much and he barely even eats. The only thing he does is stare out of nowhere like a madman. And whenever Sarah felt annoyed enough to try and talk him out of his foolishness, he always waves her off in disinterest or walks out of the room.
So of course being sick and tired of the both of them was justified.
This was the fault of none other than that Katie. And maybe Damon’s fault as well. If he hadn’t allowed her to stay here for whatever reason, Sarah wouldn’t be suffering right now… both from insecurity and overwork.
“Hey, human!” The voice blared again, this time close enough to make Sarah jump. “What are you doing? I said I need clothes. You don’t want me to walk around like this, do you?”
Sarah turned her head and took a long hard look at Katie who had just entered the living room. Considering the sight before her eyes, a simply eye widening was too little of a reaction. Katie was standing there without clothes on… everything was bare, every single thing. Before anything else, Sarah made the first move to look over at Damon. And she was pretty thankful to find that he was still staring at the wall.
“What are you doing?” Sarah whisper yelled, her eyes rolling up and down her figure in disbelief. “You’re naked!”
“Thanks for stating the obvious.” Katie threw the towel she had in her hands over her shoulder and leaned her weight on one side before placing her hand on her hip. “I asked for clothes and you didn’t give it, so I thought you wanted me to walk naked.” She laughed. “What? You don’t like how I look?” She jutted her bottom lip out with a sly smile and then tilted her head so that she was staring at Damon. “I bet he’d appreciate a good view after all this time…. seeing as you barely have much to offer.”
Sarah rolled her eyes. From day one, it was always the same. You don’t have much…. You’re worse than the women on the streets and all that. That’s pretty much all she had been hearing for three days straight, so right now she couldn’t care less about what she just said.
“You’re the only one who thinks so.” Sarah replied, turning on her feet sluggishly and padding up the stairs. “Come on I’ll get you clothes.”
But Katie didn’t follow behind. She folded her arms across her chest and stood her ground, eyes boring daggers into Sarah’s back. “Bring it down. I’ll talk to Damon first.” That was her attempt at riling Sarah up and wiping that unbothered look off her face… And sadly, you could say she achieved what she wanted.
Sarah spun around almost immediately and launched herself forward, grabbing Katie’s hand before she could even step off towards Damon.
“You’re pretty fast for a human.” Katie commented, a loud chuckle leaving her lips. “And stupid.” She looked down at her hand that Sarah was holding and ripped it out of her hold before rubbing the spot. “Anyway, you don’t have to get me clothes. I think I’d rather help myself… that’s if you don’t mind me entering your room and ruffling through everything.”
And with that, she shoved Sarah out of the way and climbed the stairs two at a time with her hips swaying from side to side.
‘You freaking annoying show off.’
Those words were at the tip of Sarah’s tongue but never reached the open. You could say she knew who to avoid and who to stand up to. Telling off Katie now would only be fruitless… especially since she never lets go of an argument until she as the upper hand.
And so, since she wasn’t a very wise sparing partner to chose, Sarah turned her piercing gaze over to Damon and without so much as thinking of what her next words would be, she stomped over to him.
“When are you going to get rid of the people after her? She seems very desperate to leave.”
Damon rolled his gaze up from her feet to her face and even when he began to speak, that dazed look never left his face. He was obviously thinking about a lot.
“I sent out wolves around three hours ago to scout the area she directed us to… if she’s telling the truth then we’ll attack.” He leaned forward in his seat and repositioned his gaze to the floor, “I don’t trust her words alone.”
Sarah blinked. She came with the intention of cussing him to hell and back but after getting his calm reply, she had absolutely nothing to base an argument on at the moment. “Well…” Her glare slowly retracted and she twisted her fingers together, not knowing what to say. “Why didn’t you fill me in? I was worried you weren’t going to help her.” She lied through her teeth, a beaming smile dancing upon her lips.
“I’d rather you not refer to this as helping… I don’t help others.”
“Because it’s against the bad guy code? Or because you hate people overall?”
He sighed, face tightening and his eyes becoming pensive as if reminiscing. “I don’t hate people. I hate their ways… deceit, envy, betrayal…” His jaw clenched at the last word. “I hate it all.”
“Why?”
Damon’s eyes travelled back up to her and she cringed. “Uh…” She began sweeping her feet over the floor under his uneasily penetrating gaze. Maybe pressing too far in wasn’t a good idea. Frowning, she opened her mouth to dismiss her rather stupid question… but Damon ended up speaking before she did.
“I think you already know why.” He used a bored tone when he spoke as if her mere words were bothering him.
As soon as Sarah saw it… the irritation in his eyes that is, she fixed a glare in his direction. “Not entirely. I don’t know more than what you tell me…. and you don’t tell me anything.”
“What difference would it make?” He made the move to get up, but Sarah walked forward and pressed her palm to his chest, shoving him back unto the couch.
“A lot of difference actually. Atleast then I’d be able to understand why you’re so sensitive to betrayal, why you’re sitting here like a lost puppy and why she keeps saying that she was yours first.”
Damon didn’t make any move to get up even though he could probably shove her away with just his pinky finger. And likewise, he didn’t make any move to speak either. After a few motionless minutes, she rose her brow expectantly and lifted his drooping chin with her fingers. “Are you going to tell me or not?”
He didn’t answer. He didn’t even look at her. It was obvious that he didn’t plan on telling her anything.
Licking the skin inside her mouth in irritation, Sarah dropped her hands and twisted her body around. She walked off towards the door with stomping feet and pursed lips, but a large hand grabbed her wrist before she could reach far.
“Can we–” he paused in hesitance. “Can we go out for a walk? I’ll tell you everything… from start to finish.”
