Under Attack!

ZADE’S POV
“What do you think should be done Alpha, they have attacked the east wing again and with the way their operations are escalating so fast, it is only a matter of time before they reach the park central. I think we better act fast.”
My gaze darted from my beta to the opened window in my throne room. I let his words sink into my head as I watched the sun sink farther away from the sky.
“It was only a matter of time before they reached the park central” He had said. If they reached the park central and were able to successfully invade it, then we are likely done for.
“What do we do” He asked. They were all relying on me with every fiber of their beings. Funny enough they had no idea that the one person they considered a source of motivation, strength and hope was losing himself in the process. At this point, I had no idea what should be done.
These people have been invading my pack for the past few months. There was no explanation for it, nothing. And the hardest part to deal with was the fact that no one knew who they were. They just attack and leave us to deal with the aftermath. No matter how much effort we put into finding out who they were, they had remained mysterious.
“Alpha?” He called again, probably taking note that I was deep in thought again, torn away from reality when we have a significant situation on our hands.
“How are the people attacked? Any casualties?” I cleared my throat to get rid of my croaked voice.
“So far, the casualties counted are more than last time. They are becoming motivated day after day” He replied, standing tall and waiting for my command.
I never told him this but throughout all of these, I had drawn confidence from him, just like he relied on me, so did I. Especially now that there was no other person in my life who could advise me on what to do.
“Malia” her name just popped into my face together with her face but I shook my head vigorously to get rid of it. Now was not the time for that.
“Alright,” I nodded. “Gather the troops, be ready for their next attack, and make sure we find something this time. We need to know who we are dealing with to be able to win this” I instructed quickly, running my eyes through the bunch of unattained files in front of me.
“Right away, your Majesty.” He bowed and retreated out of the throne room through the path he had come from.
I thought I would finally have time to go through these files but just when he stepped out, Victoria walked in, swaying her hips side to side and holding in her hand some sort of magazine.
“I have been searching for you all around the palace. I didn’t figure you were here”
“I am busy Victoria, come back later” I didn’t bother raising my head to look at her.
“I won’t take much of your time, okay, I just want to show you this” She shoved the magazine in front of my face, obstructing my view of the files I was working on.
“Where do you think we should go for our next vacation, I am having trouble choosing between the northern part and the south. I want the north because I think we are going to have so much fun in the snow but then again, the summer in the south is also inviting. What do you think?” she rattled on and on.
I stared at her in disbelief, wondering what the heck was going through her head.
“Victoria do I need to remind you that we are in the middle of a war? To add to that, with a mysterious group of people?” I pronounced out every word clearly like I was addressing a kid cause seriously, there wasn’t any difference from her brain and that of a kid’s.
“I am aware of that” She shrugged nonchalantly and continued to stare down at the magazine, clearly showing me where her interest lied the most.
“And your damn problem at the moment is a vacation? My pack is under attack yet what you worry about is where your next vacation would be?” I asked, expecting some form of remorse from her but nothing.
“It’s not like I can do anything to help. If I could I would have done something. So I better focus on a more productive part of my life” She said and shrugged yet again.
I stared at her, thinking of the right answer to give her but in the end, I decided she was not worth it.
“Just get out, I am busy. You will figure it out yourself” I picked the magazine and placed it in her hand.
“Do you even still care about me?”
There we go again, something that had become a daily part of my life.
I could almost say I was grateful for the interruption from my beta but the news he brought in made me jolt out of my seat with so much urgency.
“The pack is under attack as we speak”
With no words exchanged, I followed behind him, running toward the main exit, my hand lying readily on my sword which was safely tucked in my waist.
We scurried there but we weren’t fast enough cause we arrived to meet the most heartbreaking scene I had ever encountered. A part of my pack, burnt to the ground. The only thing to remind me that a structure ever existed there were the wounded who were been stuffed into vehicles and rushed to the Park hospital.
Just as he claimed earlier, they were progressing and will soon reach the center of the pack.
I needed to act, and fast.
I needed to search for Malia, wherever in the world she was, she was the only one who could help me in these trying times.
“Gather the troope, we are traveling!”
