MALIA’S POV
I didn’t say a word and waited for him to, because I had nothing to say to him. I watched him intensely as he swallowed and moved closer to where we stood.
“What is going on between you too, I can feel the thick strain in the air around you guys” Derek who was still standing beside me whispered into my ear. He moved just in time for me to swat the air where his face had been a few seconds ago.
“Shut your damn mouth” I muttered without even looking toward him. I had my gaze directed at Ronan and I wanted it to be there for now.
“Malia” He finally called as he stood right in front of me. “Can I uhm….. speak to you for a few minutes? Please?” He added at the end of his request. I had no idea the kind of person he took me for but I wasn’t the kind that would pick offense just because he had banged the door to my room while trying to let his emotions out.
I love to think I am emotionally mature and I act toward it with immense effect.
“Sure, I can use a break” I shrugged and pointed toward the bench away from the training ring.
“A break? You haven’t even started?” Derek mumbled to my hearing only before I could move away from him. I waited until I was a few feet in front of him and behind Ronan to raise my middle finger toward him.
I followed behind Ronan and sat beside him on the long bench. I didn’t even need to hear what he had to say, his face had said it all, the guilty-filled look he was giving me was enough of an apology but where was the fun in saving him the stress of apologising?
“Look Malia, what I did last night was stupid and uncalled for” He began.
“Yes,” I nodded as a matter of fact and waited for him to continue speaking.
“I… can you please… fuck! I am sorry about that okay? I know I messed up but I was just sincerely worried about you and that was it. Please understand me, I didn’t mean to react that way but I had to” he looked so frustrated while speaking.
By merely looking at him, I could tell he wasn’t used to the habit of apologizing and instead had it the other way around. I instantly felt like I had to applaud him for his effort and so I did.
“Don’t get yourself so beaten up. I understand where you are coming from and I have forgiven you since last night”
“You have?” He gazed at me as if forgiving was the hardest thing to do and he was shocked that I got to do it that fast.
“Yes. I understood how you felt at that moment and knew you were genuinely coming from a good place so there wasn’t a need for me to be angry in the first place, was there?” I questioned.
“Not necessarily. So now we are cool?” He asked, his tone reluctant, like he was expecting me to attack any minute.
“We are cool” I smiled sincerely at him. “I have forgotten about this whole grudge thing since last night. I was expecting you to come back to your senses when you were calm enough. I guess it doesn’t take you so long to realize your mistake” I shrugged.
“Doing that was so dumb of me. I shouldn’t have done it in the first place. I must say, you have an understanding heart. Thank you so much for tolerating my bullshit. I would never do that again” He said, bowing dramatically and I swatted his hand away from my shoulder where he dropped it.
“So what are you doing out here anyways? Aren’t you supposed to be in the palace doing Beta stuff and things like that?” I questioned because truly he hardly came around the training ground. He was either in the palace settling one or two things or was outside of the pack.
“Watching the soldiers train is a part of Beta stuff” He chuckled. “But that isn’t why I am here in the first place. I came out in search of you knowing this was the only place I could find you this early in the morning if you weren’t in your room. So now that I have found you and succeeded in getting myself forgiven, how do we go about the rest of the day?” He rubbed his hands together in anticipation.
“Don’t you have something to do? You are not supposed to be here” I squirted my eyes at him and gazed questionably at him.
“Not today, whatever it is that I have to do will have to wait for tomorrow. I have offended you and will take every means to make up for that” He replied as a matter of fact and I shrugged.
“For a start, let’s watch the soldiers, I mean, you shouldn’t leave all your task unattended to, today right?” I said, arching my brows innocently at him.
“Right!” He smiled and directed us toward the nearest bench. It wasn’t long until we became engrossed in watching. The field was filled with soldiers who took turns to challenge one another in the act of swordplay.
“How good are you will your sword?” I asked randomly in the middle of watching.
“Quite moderate but not as good as I am with my jaws and claws” he replied.
“Werewolves who prefer to fight in their wolf form are bloody. Don’t even ask me how I know that” I spoke.
“What is the essence of a fight if it doesn’t get bloody?” He questioned.
“You have a point” I nodded and we continued watching. At some point we got bored and he suggested we go back into the palace.
The rest of the day was spent inside and when it was night time, we headed to his favorite eatery.
When he said he was ready to treat me throughout the day, he meant it.
