MALIA’S POV
My gaze trailed after him as he stepped out of the door. I didn’t even know what to think of the situation. We were just in the middle of conversing and he just got up and stepped out of the room.
Just like that?
Was I perhaps missing out on something or this was just a usual way of ending a conversation around here?
Zade is pretty much popular so it wasn’t a big deal that he recognized him but then that didn’t make for a reason for him to just step out of the room with no explanation.
My gaze focused on the now closed door as my thoughts rummaged through all the possible reasons that made him leave mid-conversation but nothing I came up with was valid enough.
Whatever it was, the least he could do was to give me a headstart. A simple “excuse me” would have saved me from all these thoughts.
I tucked my hair behind my ear and stood up from the chair. The window facing this side of the room had a different scene from the other. While the first was showcasing the whole pack and its civilization, this window gave the view of a very large forest, dense and dark despite the sunlight.
And as much as this scene is more serene, I prefer the initial because at least, I have something to keep my mind off things. So with that final decision, I made my way back to where I was seated before he walked into the room. I resumed my position of sitting in the window still and continued to gaze at the outside world with so many people moving about their day.
How I wish I could be this normal. Just getting up with the rest of the population and going about my day without a care in the world. I might have my personal life crisis but at least it would be a normal problem that could be easily solved.
I told myself a lot of times, that people don’t know how lucky they were. Being normal alone is a blessing. What some of us would give to be a part of the Goddess’s favorite.
My stare finally moved away from the stalk of people in what seemed to be like a market square, buying and selling commodities. I focused on the less populated part of town that consisted mostly of little kids running around and their mothers trying to get them back into the house. I spotted some malls, hospitals, and whatnot. This pack is moderately modernized.
Which occurred to me that I had been here for hours and I knew nothing about my surroundings. Not even the name of the pack.
Inwardly face-palming myself, I slumped down from the window and made it toward the front door, I was going to move around the place to see what I would be able to find out. I couldn’t just sit there and wait for a miracle to unfold from heaven.
The hallway was just as I remembered, deserted and well-polished. The furnished floor shone brightly to the rays of the sunlight coming through the open windows.
After I had successfully closed the door behind me, I halted in front of it, not knowing which way to pick. Not to come off as a new bee to the guards hanging around, I randomly chose left and began to make my way down the hallway.
I didn’t know what I was doing, neither did I know where the road led to but was I going to stop and ask for help? No. Probably because I did not want to be looked down upon.
I continue toward that path, taking care to register in my head each turn and corner I took, because there was going to be a need for me to locate my room afterward.
I came to an abrupt stop in front of a path that went left and right again, deciding to stick to my initial choice, I chose left yet again and proceeded to navigate my way through the palace like I had lived here all my life.
I passed by what seemed to be a laundry room, I passed a couple of dressing rooms but nothing peeked my interest until I reached the enormous kitchen.
Not even where I came from had I ever come across a cooking corner this big. The entire floor was covered in black and white squared marbles. Just like every other part of the house, the whole kitchen was rid of every possible dirt.
What piqued my interest was the nice mouth-watering smell of baked pancakes that reached my nose. Instinctively, I stepped into the kitchen which consisted of only four staff each working by their corner. They were all females and clad in the same type of blue-coloured uniform.
At first, none of them noticed my arrival and I was even on the verge of turning back to leave when suddenly, a petite-looking motherly figure turned toward the entrance.
“Oh” She exclaimed and wiped her hands on her apron. “What do we have here? Do you need anything ma’am” She smiled so broadly that I had to search through my brain to see if we had met before. She treated me with so much warmth like she had known me in the past.
“Err…I uhm…was just passing by and the nice smell led me here”
I didn’t know why I said that and it sounded probably awkward at first but a few minutes later, after I had managed to gain the rest of the women’s attention with my words they took it upon themselves to sit me down on a long stool and display a different variety of food for me to eat from, I didn’t regret saying those words.
I got along with them really well and we chatted lightly as I ate while they discussed. The whole moment felt so good until it was interrupted by a woman.
“Who the hell are you?”
