Chapter 26 Angry Alpha

Book:The Awakening Published:2024-5-1

Hayden paced about in his office. His wolf was restless and so was he. It was getting late and Silver wasn’t anywhere in the pack house, he couldn’t sense her presence. If they had already mated, he would have been able to feel her, no matter how far away she was. His wolf was angry and terrified at the same time. What if she had decided that she was tired of his bullshit and went back to the full moon pack without anyone’s knowledge? What if she was attacked by rogue wolves? What if she was hurt and alone somewhere? What if… He stopped pacing when he sensed her presence and immediately left his office.
As he got to the ground floor, Hayden heard Silver giggling with a male and immediately recognized the male’s voice.
‘Derek.’ his wolf growled. The damn male just never listened.
“Thank you, Derek. I had so much fun hunting with you, and the late night swim was amazing.” Silver said, and she gave Derek a kiss on the cheeks just as Hayden came into view.
Hayden glared at Silver and she glared right back at him, obviously daring him to say a word. What right did he have to be angry? Wasn’t she just a guest here?
Hayden knew that he was fighting a lost battle with Silver, so he turned his glare to Derek.
“Where have you two been?” Hayden asked with a growl and Derek swallowed hard. Derek opened his mouth to reply but Silver beat him to it.
“It’s really none of your business, Alpha.” she added his title at the end of her statement with as much sarcasm as she could muster just to spite him, and it worked.
“This is my pack, and there are rules…”
“Oh please! Spare me the boring lecture.” Silver interrupted Hayden.
Derek turned to look at her like she had lost her mind because she was challenging an Alpha. Then he remembered that she was also an Alpha, a really hot headed one. The few wolves that were still around the area were also looking at her with a mixture of admiration and resentment.
“Other wolves go and come as they please and I never hear any complaint from you. If you think that you can boss me around, well think again. The others might be afraid of you but I’m not, and it’s not because we’re m…” Silver paused when she realized what she had been about to reveal.
“I am not a prisoner here. I suggest you concern yourself with your pack duties and stop sticking your nose in my business.” She said and stormed off.
Hayden watched her leave and Derek wanted to use the opportunity to escape but he didn’t get the chance, because Hayden turned to him and growled…
“My office, now.” As Hayden walked off, Mara walked up to Derek.
“Why is he so angry at you, Derek?”
“I have no idea. I have to go.” Derek replied and followed Hayden. As he walked into Hayden’s office, he was pinned to the wall beside the door, with a hand around his neck, and his feet a few inches off the ground.
“Did I or did I not warn you to stay away from her?” Hayden asked as he squeezed Derek’s neck while he gasped for air. He let Derek go when he was seconds away from from going unconscious because of lack of oxygen and Derek crumpled to the floor. Derek wheezed and coughed while he was on the floor.
“I asked you a question.” Hayden said through gritted teeth.
“ANSWER ME!”
“Y. you said I sh. should stay aw. way from her r. room. I haven’t even been n. near her room s. since that day.”
“I don’t want to see you close to her, period.” Hayden said as he picked him off the floor and held him up by his collar.
“She came to me. She was angry that I was avoiding her and she wouldn’t let it go. She was going to come to you. She suspected that you said something to me and it pissed her off. We’re not doing anything more than hanging out as friends, she won’t even let me kiss her or…”
“I DON’T GIVE A DAMN! Stay away from her. The next time I have to remind you, it will end very badly for you.” he said and let Derek go. Derek immediately left Hayden’s office but he was more confused than ever.
He couldn’t understand why Hayden was acting the way he was. Only mated males or soon to be mated males acted so irrational and territorial. But he knew for a fact that there was nothing going on between his Alpha and Silver. In fact, they seemed to dislike each other, and Hayden’s mate, their Luna, was already dead so Hayden and Silver couldn’t possibly be mates. Was Hayden trying to punish Silver with isolation for a crime she had committed that no one else knew about?
**
Silver was livid when she got back to her room. She really wanted to tear Hayden apart piece by piece and watch him bleed. He was a damn asshole. How dare he reject her, and then act so possessive when she was finally making friends here? How dare he think she was one of his loyal subjects that were at his beck and call, always ready to do his bidding? How dare he even show his face to her after ignoring her for so long?
She grabbed her pillow and flung it across the room, then sat down on the bed and ran her hands through her hair. She took deep breaths till she was a bit more calm. Derek had told her that Hayden had told him not to set foot in her room and he wouldn’t defy his Alpha, but there was always a way around a rule. She took a shower and grabbed the board game set. If Derek could not come to her room, then she would go to his.
