Chapter 18 The Beta Bitch

‘Guest?’ Her wolf growled in her mind, and her claws outwardly extended as the beast wanted to force itself out and rip out his face. She forced her wolf back down, and kept her expression neutral.
“Silver, this is Beth, my Beta. Derek is in charge of combat. Mara handles pack activities. Carl is the head pack doctor.” He introduced each of them and turned back to the crowd.
“She’ll be staying with us for now. She’s a full moon pack warrior.”
After concluding what he was to say, he dismissed them. As the rest of the pack dispersed, she turned to Hayden.
“I’m going for a run.” She said before he could speak.
“My wolf wants to kill something, so I hope your pack terrain has a lot of rabbits. She likes those, and cherries too. She wants to sink her teeth in a really ripe cherry.” She said with a barely suppressed growl.
“Whatever room I’ll be occupying at the pack house, my things should be moved from the car to it before I return.”
“Nobody is your slave here. And the pack house is for Dark moon’s Alpha, and high ranking wolves.” Beth growled at her.
“Why should I lift a finger when I’m just a guest?” She shrugged and turned, before any of them could say a word, she was already running in human form. She wanted to get far from them first before changing, because if she let the beast out near Hayden, blood would flow and it wouldn’t be hers.
“She’s so rude.” Beth huffed as they all watched Silver disappear into the woods.
“Mara, she’ll be staying on my floor. Get the room prepared for her, and have one of the omegas bring her things up. They would appreciate having someone new to dote to.”
There were only two bedrooms on the top floor of the pack house solely for the Alpha’s use.
Silver ran till she got to a secluded part of the woods and stripped. She folded her clothes and left them at the foot of a tree. Then she called on her inner wolf. There was a flash of pain as her bones realigned and in seconds, a wolf with silver fur emerged and howled with fury. The beast wanted to find Hayden and show him what she thought of being introduced as an ordinary guest. SIlver channeled the beast’s rage into racing further away from Hayden’s scent, and hunting down prey. When the beast’s rage had finally been quelled, her silver fur was matted in blood. She located a small stream and washed herself before trotting back to the tree she had left her clothes at. Fur became skin as she willed her human form back and put on her clothes.
Her whole body ached from the hours of running, but it felt good. She just needed a warm bath, food, and sleep to recharge. She stretched her arms and neck as she walked back to the pack house.
“I’ve been waiting for you.” The female that had been introduced as Mara walked to her with a bright smile. This one looked like a she wolf she could like, unlike the Beta whose eyes she wanted to gorge out with her claws.
“Did you enjoy your run? How was the terrain? Are you hungry?”
“Slow down.” She chuckled and the female flushed slightly.
“One question at a time.”
“I’m sorry. We haven’t had a new wolf here in a while. The packs don’t usually mix unless on special occasions.”
“Yeah. No need to apologize though, I’m just a bit too tired to keep up with rapid fire conversations. I need a warm bath pronto.” She said.
“Come with me, I’ll show you to your room.” Mara led her into the pack house, and some wolves in the common area turned their attention to her. She ignored them and just followed Mara.
“All the wolves staying at the pack house usually have meals together. Dinner will be served in a while. Come down when you’re done. The eating area is hard to miss.”
“Thanks.” She said and Mara left her room.
The bag she had came with which held the few things Margaret had gotten for her, and some memorabilia, had been put in the open closet. Thankfully, it hadn’t been tampered with, she wouldn’t want someone she didn’t know touching her belongings.
She took out what she would need to take a bath, and a change of clothes. Later, she would arrange her things properly. She would also need to get extra things, but she would rather drop dead than ask anything from him.
Packs had a general account that every house was required to deposit an agreed percentage in every month. The general accounts paid for pack expenses, catering to families that could not do so, pack festivities, etc. Whatever she asked for would probably be paid for from that account, but if she had to go through him, then no thank you.
She had just finished taking a bath when her stomach rumbled. As if on cue, she caught the scent of something mouthwatering and knew it was dinner time like Mara had said. She was ravenous.
When she got down to the dining area, wolves were already devouring their meals, too focused to give her more than a passing glance. It was way better, the staring had been creepy.
She was yanked on the arm by an elderly looking she wolf. The female must be or more than a century old, maybe two since she looked like a human grandma.
“Welcome dear.” The female smiled.
“I’m Karla, but everyone calls me Mama. You look tired, you must be starving.” She touched Silver’s face and hair. The woman was definitely an Alpha. Only wolves with the gene would touch you like they had every right to. She liked the motherly aura around the female, so she didn’t snarl at her, just stayed still and enjoyed her touch.
She watched Mama fill two dishes with food, and then it was given to her.
“Eat up dear, you need your energy.”
“Thanks Mama.” She kissed the woman on the cheek, and her smile widened.
She didn’t have the energy to sit at a crowded table and socialize, so she moved to the table with only two seats. She was too distracted to notice that the chair she had sat on had traces of Hayden’s scent embedded in it.
She had just cleared one plate, and was about to start on the second when she was interrupted.
“This table is reserved, take your meal elsewhere.”
