Chapter 14 DEBRIEF

Book:The Awakening Published:2024-5-1

“Not this again Silver.” Thomas sighed. ” I already told you that Manda is dead. She died shortly after we separated you from her that day. You don’t think you hit her hard enough, but you did.”
“I’ll believe you for now. But, if I find out you lied and hid her from me, I will kill you.” She bared her teeth at him with a low growl, her eye colour changing as her wolf rose to the surface to back her up.
“Careful with the threats.” His own eyes glowed, his wolf responding to the challenge from another Alpha. “I am still your Alpha.”
“You are not her anything.” Hayden growled at Thomas. “She’s mine now. That makes her a dark moon wolf.”
“Seriously, you both, cut it out or I’ll send you away.” Margaret said as she moved close to Silver.
“Maggie, don’t.” Thomas moved to push her behind him, away from Silver.
“I’ll be fine Tommy.” She swat his hand away and she got to the bed.
“Maybe you should listen to him. This close, it would only take a second for me to snap your pretty neck.” Silver deadpanned.
“But you won’t do that Silver.” Margaret said to her.
“Don’t be so sure.”
“I am, I feel it here.” Margaret took her hand and placed it over her heart.
“Do you want to see what your heart looks like? Is that why you’re tempting me like this? I could rip it out and show it to you. Though I doubt you’ll still be alive to see it leave your body.” Silver threatened, but Margaret just laughed.
“What you don’t know, Silver, is that every healer forms a bond with their patient so the healing process would be faster and more effective.”
“You’re a healer? There hasn’t been one here in years.” Silver said, looking at her with a bit of awe. Healers were so rare.
“Well I am. So while I heal you, I can feel your emotions, your moods, your body’s needs. If you wanted to kill me, I would know. So, how are you feeling?”
“Still a bit achy, but generally okay.”
“Good.” Margaret’s hands glowed dimly as she moved them over Silver’s body.
“Everything else inside is good too. Except one thing, you need to eat.”
“I don’t feel hungry.” Silver said then groaned as she held her stomach.
“Actually, i’m ravenous.” Margaret smiled.
“If you can move, we can go eat. But, if you can’t, I’ll bring the food to you.”
“I want to say I can’t so I’ll be waited on, but my wolf is going a bit crazy being cooped up here.” She stood and stretched.
“Ugh! I stink. I’ll have a bath while i’m at it.”
“Food first, then a run, and a bath right after.” Margaret said as they both walked out of the room..
“Do you think it’s wise to tell her about the prophecy and the quest right now?” Jerald asked.
“Let her rest first.” Hayden said.
“In case you haven’t noticed, time is not on our side, and there’s a lot at stake.” Keith said.
“And in case you haven’t noticed, she had been chained, caged, and starved. Let her rest.”
“You’re putting one woman’s comfort ahead of the fate of the entire packs.” Keith growled.
“The packs can burn for all I care, if it means she will get a little time to recuperate.” Hayden growled back at him.
“Keith, he’s right, she needs a little time to herself.” Thomas said to him.
“And Hayden, Keith is right. We don’t have much time. So we’ll talk to her when she has eaten, and cleaned up after her run. This way, she still gets time to herself, and we still continue the quest.”
“I feel like a new born pup.” Silver said as she joined them in the common room. She had just taken a warm bath, and her dark skin glowed. Her long silver hair had been trimmed so it stopped just below her shoulder, and she wore a loose dress to conceal her skinny frame. A few days of eating hearty meals like the one she had, and she would get her curves back.
She walked to Hayden and sat on his legs. He was surprised, but he just smiled and wrapped his arms around her.
“Silver, we need to talk.” Thomas said.
Margaret, who was sitting on him was playing with his hair. The others sat alone on different cushions.
“That sounds so ominous.”
“I wish I could tell you that it isn’t.” He sighed and her back straightened.
“What’s wrong?” She asked with a frown.
“The packs are in danger.”
“What kind of danger? What can be done?” She immediately switched to warrior mode.
“You know about the ten packs that existed before it came down to seven. We were told what caused their extinction, the real story, not just myth.”
“And the same thing has returned?” She asked.
“Yes, and no. There was a prophecy, it helped us find the Oracle. She was the one who told us the story, and that was the beginning of our quest. Long story short, There was a wolf who found a way to cast a spell on herself, a spell to take away her soul so she would become darkness itself and wield immeasurable power. She wanted to be the supreme ruler of wolves, but they resisted…”
“And she wiped them out.” She interpolated.
“Yes. But, before they were annihilated, they cast a hibernation spell on her. That was why there were seven left afterwards.”
“So she, or it, has been asleep all this time, and has now awakened?” She asked.
“Not yet. That’s our saving grace and what the quest is about. We need to find what we will use to defeat her for good, or protect ourselves.”
“Whatever it is shouldn’t be that hard to find for our best trackers.”
“The problem is, we don’t even know what we’re looking for at this point. We’ve just been trying to fix the pieces of the parts of the puzzles of the prophecy. Do you remember any weird sentences that sound like a prophecy?
