They were still staring at each other when his eyes turned a darker shade. He growled as he noticed her wrists and ankles bleeding and he moved to her while she stood rooted to the spot. He yanked off the chains from her, hissing as the silver came in contact with his flesh but it didn’t stop him.
“You…” She said, then collapsed and he caught her before she hit the ground.
“How is this possible Thomas, how can she be my mate?” He asked as he held her unconscious body in his arms.
“I told you, the elders said rare matings happen in this meeting, because of the moon.”
“Set the table so he can set her down.” Margaret said.
“No, I’ll hold her.” He said as he looked at the female in his arms that he just discovered to be his mate.
“Yes, they said rare matings happened for rejected mates, but I wasn’t rejected, my mate died. When wolves lose a mate, they remain unmated for the rest of their lives. How is this possible?” Hayden asked again as he looked at Thomas with confusion and shock written on his face.
“I don’t know Hayden, I’m just as suprised as you are, trust me.” Thomas said.
“She’s… Beautiful.” Hayden said with awe in his eyes and voice as he looked at her again.
“Beautiful is an understatement.” Carson whistled.
“She’s mega hot, especially with that warrior princess thing she’s got going.” He added and Hayden growled, both man and wolf ready to rip Carson apart. The only thing that stopped him was the woman he still held in his arms.
“Don’t talk about her like that, don’t even look at her.”
“Chill dude. She’s not my type, I prefer them tame, easy to handle. She looks like a lot of work.” He said and Hayden growled.
“What? I just told you she’s not my type, why are you still growling at me.” Carson asked.
“She’s number nine.” Margaret suddenly said and they all turned to her.
“That’s her cell number.” Thomas said.
“No, that’s just a coincidence, or maybe it isn’t, but that’s not what I’m talking about. Remember I said seven Alphas and a Luna makes eight. Well, seven Alphas and Two Lunas make nine. And, seven Alphas and seven Lunas make fourteen.” She said but they just stared at her in confusion.
“As in ‘Fourteen must embark on a quest to search’ ‘But they must first find themselves’ That part of the prophecy is about mates. A mated pair from each pack makes fourteen.”
“I think you’re right about that Margaret.” Vance said.
“I’m definitely right.” She smiled.
“Margaret, can you please check her? My wolf is worried.” Hayden said.
“Okay.” Margaret said as she moved close to him.
“I know you don’t want to let go of her, but you have to set her down so I can examine her properly.” She added.
“Let’s get her to the healing centre. A bed would be more comfortable than a table.” Thomas said.
He led them all to the healing centre where the pack doctors usually treated injured wolves.
Hayden set her down on a bed, but he held on to her hand. Margaret put her two hands over the unconscious female, palms facing down and slowly moved them over her from her head to her toe.
“Is she okay? Why did she faint?” Hayden asked.
“Give me a few minutes Hayden, I’m still learning how to use my gifts.” Margaret said to him and continued moving her hands over the female.
“She doesn’t have any fatal or internal injuries. Just the wrists and ankles that were cuffed in silver. It’s surprising that it didn’t hurt her more than this though, with the amount of silver that was in contact with her skin and how long it seems to have been on her, she should be permanently scarred. But, her wounds are already trying to heal.”
“There must be a reason why she fainted, check again.” Hayden said.
“It was just shock, and the physical exertion from her escape and the subsequent fight that ensued. She hasn’t done any strenuous physical activity for a while and it took a toll on her body when the adrenaline rush weared off. Also she’s malnourished as you can obviously tell from her thin frame.”
“Locking her with silver wasn’t enough, you also starved her too?” Hayden growled at Thomas and Thomas growled back.
“She was dangerous, you saw for yourself how strong she is. She was a danger to herself and everyone else in the pack. She was near feral and had to be locked up. Without that silver, she would have broken free a long time ago. And I didn’t starve her, she’s the one who refuses to eat as much as she’s given. And she always tries to kill whoever brings her food.”
“Enough, both of you. Whatever happened is past now and doesn’t matter anymore. We should be moving forward. We still don’t know if she will be calm when she wakes up or if she will continue her vendetta.” Margaret said.
“Maggie, I don’t want you here when she wakes up. If she tries to harm you, I will kill her.” Thomas said.
“You will not lay a finger on her.” Hayden’s eyes glowed as both man and wolf issued the warning.
“This is my pack Hayden.” Thomas growled in response. “If she tries to harm my mate, she will die.”
“If you harm her, then be ready to go to war with the dark moon pack. She is my mate.”
“Both of you cut it out. We need to be united now to prevent our extinction. Enough of the -if you do this and if you do that.” Margaret said sternly as she got in between them.
“Hayden, I’ll help her wounds heal. After that, we’ll wait for her to wake up then it’s up to you.”
