Sophie Esinberg’s POV
” So you are saying- all that dad has is two patents?”, I rephrased.
” If you want ito put it that way, then yeah. That’s pretty much it,” Mom replied perplexed.
” Are you sure Mom? I mean Dad told you everything, right?”
Mom took a deep breath beforre answering, I know it is hard for Mom to talk about him, but I need to know the truth. I need to know whether if Mom has the slightest hint about AMELL.
“Listen, Soaf, Your Dad, he became very conservative at the end. He stopped sharing things with me, he wouldn’t discuss his problems with me and did not hear mine either. Relationships-they don’t work this way, hon. You have to be honest, you have to share your life with your partner, because these are the moments you cherish,”
I pulled a wrong string there, I realized. Mom was never comfortable talking about her relationship with Dad. Every time I see her like this, It just makes me more mad, why did he have to leave? Why did Dad lleave her miserable and lonely?
“Mom, I am going to Dany’s house. He called me just now. He needs me to tutor him.” I told her as I slid down the kitchen slab and started walking towards the main door.
“At this hour? It’s Eight, Soaf. You can go tomorrow,” Mom replied while she was preparing dinner.
“Ohh, no mom you don’t understand it, do you? You know there is this neighbour of Daniel who is also known as Soaf’s boyfriend. so…..” Lavy gestured mom so that she would understand what she was implying.
This made blood rush to my cheeks and in a second they were bright shade of pink.
“NO! Shut up Lavy, get your mind out of gutter Okay?” I replied to her while sticking my tongue out at her and made my way towards mom who is standing in the kitchen preparing dinner for us.
“Mom, believe me I am only going there to tutor Dany. That’s it.” I said in a soft tone.
Mom turned around and pulled me into a tight hug while grinning. She placed a kiss on my forehead before saying ” I know you will not do anything which you will regret in future Soaf. I believe you and your decisions. It’s fine, you can go.” and with a smile i mouthed her a thank you and made my way outside the house.
Finally upon reaching Dany’s house I parked mom’s car in the front. In one swift movement I got out of the car and headed towards his house. I turned my face side ways to see whether Raymond is home or not. But frowned when I found the lights off.
This is weird. It’s already 8:15 p. m his practice should be over by six thirty or something. I clicked on the power button of my phone but there was no calls or messages from him.
Okay. So by now I can tell something is definitely wrong. Ray never forgets to text me. He always texts me after his practice is over.
Finally reaching towards Dany’s main door I was about to ring the bell when I heard noises from inside.
It was some girl shouting at him.
Debating to whether press the bell or not I heard the girl saying my name. My hand froze, hanging in the air where I was about to press the bell.
I know eavesdropping is not good but you know that moment when you hear someone gossiping about you. You just can’t resist right?
I am human too!
“That is the problem Daniel. Raymond is using her. He is using Sophie! That poor girl doesn’t even have a hint.” Her words hit like a pang in my heart, I recognized her voice.
It was Ellen. But what was she doing here?
” I figured that out El. I knew that fucker was not serious about Sophie. I can’t believe he fooled me too.” I heard Daniel growling behind the door.
“I am sorry Daniel. But this is the truth. You know about Raymond’s football scholarship, right? He was too lazy to study and do his assignments so I suggested him that he could ask Sophie for help. I didn’t know he had something that low planned.” Ellen yelled.
I don’t believe her words. Not a bit.
This cannot be true.
What Ray and I have cannot be fake.
” How can he be so low! He used Sophie from the starting. He is NOT serious about this relationship. How will I tell this to her? She is madly in love with him.” This time it was Dany, his voice was a mixture of various emotions, hurt, fury, rage and anger.
I couldn’t see anything. Everything in front of me became blurry. That’s when I realized I was crying. Tears were streaming down my face like there is no end.
“That was his PLAN! To make her fall in Love. NOW since he’s done with her…. I-I am afraid he will leave her.” She said in a sad tone. It’s like she is pitying me.
Goddammit I don’t want anyone’s sympathy.
“He never loved her Daniel. This is why he use to come to me at night
whenever he felt alone!” I heard her say and these were the last words I heard after this everything happened suddenly.
I couldn’t breathe anymore.
I couldn’t stand anymore.
My legs gave out and I fell on the floor.
One second everything was spinning and next second everything went black.
Black. Like my life.
I wanted to die.
I know you will not do something you will regret in future, Soaf.
My body started shaking at these thoughts.
I believe you and your decisions.
Mom. I let her down too.
Why am I so gullible. Why?
I’m just done with this world hurting me.
I’m done with everything. I just want to die.
And with that my head hit the ground and everything went blank.
