“The only sure way to save Evan now is to find the exact farmin that did this to him.” Tony said.
“But it’s dead” Nella a replied.
“Hold on, I just thought of something,” Theo said, raising his hands.
“What’s that?” Kenneth asked, looking up from the bed Evan was babbling in.
“Nella, do you remember what the farmin said before it died?” Theo asked.
“Something about it not feeding enough,” came Nella’s reply.
“That was not the only thing it said,” Theo continued, “it also said something about it’s brothers coming.”
Kenneth stood up sharply.
“You mean there are other brain eaters out there?!” He said.
“Did you think the abyssal creatures were just one of a kind?” Tony asked, “we’re talking about nine hundred creatures for each type!”
“Did they all leave the abyss?” Kenneth asked.
“Not all of them,” Tony replied, ” but a good number of them left and even if it were only one creature that left the abyssal realm, that too would be too much.”
“Don’t you have some abyssal magic that can just – cure him?!” Kenneth yelled, “I mean look at him, if this goes on I just know that we will be forced to end him.”
“Don’t talk like that Kenneth,” Nella chided.
“But it’s the truth, you need to help us Tony – please.” Kenneth said again.
Tony sighed. How could he explain that the abyssal realm was in chaos, that everyone was trying to conserve their powers and that of the abyss to close the veil? How could he explain to them that the beings from the abyssal realm were still trying to hold the realm together, that they were still holding back evil souls that were trying to escape?
Basically, with the tearing of the veil, the abyssal realm was a mess. Power could not be as readily accessed as before, the realm had to heal from Upir’s intrusion first.
“Well can you do something?” Kenneth asked again.
Tony made to explain the situation of things to them, but he figured that it would only help to scare them so he stopped himself.
“Everything isn’t exactly normal now, but I’ll see what I can do.” He said instead, “for now I need to go back to the abyssal realm.”
“And what about all these creatures creeping round the town?” Theo asked.
“They are the main reason I have to go back immediately.” Tony replied.
“How exactly are you going to establish your reign since humans have now become a waste of power to you?” Lehi asked.
“I will be in control of witches, vampires and the like,” Upir replied, stirring a black liquid, “no one in this realm will be able to use magic without my permission.”
“Was that what you meant when you said something about us becoming gods?” Lehi asked again.
Upir simply nodded. She was too engrossed in what she was doing to talk. The visit to Tira had taught her that if she wanted to really rule, she would have to be able to control the witches under her domain. It was a witch who had wrecked her reign before, and she would claim it back, history could say what it wanted, she would do what she felt was right and not care about it anymore. She had tried to be a good ruler but she was betrayed. This time around, she would take her throne back, and she would not be betrayed – she would do the betraying.
Upir sighed and streched her hands over the bowl which contained the black liquid she had been stirring . She started chanting solemnly.
Lehi looked on, he was not interested in whatever it was Upir was doing. The abyssal power he carried within him was enough to keep him busy. It felt like liquid fire finding it’s way through his body. At times he felt like screaming out but since that would make him look weak, he kept the urge under control.
He was still thinking about Rose. Her brown eyes, her red coloured hair, the way she looked beautiful when she was crying…
A shout from Upir brought Lehi back to reality. She was still doing the spell and was now chanting loudly.
A strange wind had begun to move around the room, Lehi could almost feel a presence in the room, a strange one. Lehi stood up and began to survey his environment.
Upir was still chanting loudly, the black liquid had begun to boil even though there was no fire heating it.
Tony had gone back to the abyssal realm, Nella and Theo were still talking with Kenneth.
“Sometimes it feels like this is all my fault,” Nella said.
“Don’t start that now,” Kenneth said, “it was no one’s fault, whatever is meant to happen will happen so please don’t start the pity party, I can’t stand any of that stuff again.”
Theo opened his mouth to say something but was stopped by a sharp pain in his hands.
He yelled out in pain and knelt down, holding his hands to his chest.
Nella made to run to him but she was stopped by the same pain, she also knelt down – the pain was intense. It felt like someone was passing a red-hot iron rod through their hands.
“Guys what’s going on?!” Kenneth asked, running from one to another.
Evan laughed loudly and spat on himself.
“Guys?!” Kenneth shouted, at a loss as to what to do.
Upir chanted on, Lehi was on his feet now. The strange wind was now whispering. Lehi could catch snatches of what it was saying.
I am the magic of Ressa, one whispered.
I am the magic of Daniel
I am the magic of Nella
I am the magic of Theo
I am the magic of Eilsa
I am the magic of Richard
The whisperings got louder and faster as Upir’s chanting also grew louder and faster.
Lehi realized what was happening. Every witch or wizard has his or her own way of doing magic. It’s like the different handwritings we all have.
This magical ‘handwriting’ was a witch or wizard’s distinct style.
This style when used often, will form a personality of their own, sort of like a spirit.
What Upir was doing was binding the personal magical spirits of the witches and wizards. That would enable her to control when and how the witches used their magic.
All around Darfalls and beyond, witches and wizards were yelling out in pain, cradling their hands. It was a terrifying sight, seeing them scream out as if their hands were being cut off.
Kenneth was confused, Evan was spitting all around and Nella was screaming at the top of her voice.
Theo was not any better, he was also yelling and holding his hands to his chest.
“Guys!” Kenneth shouted again, shaking them.
They continued shouting.
Evan laughed again and babbled, he stood up from the bed and went towards the door, urinating along the way.
Kenneth snapped.
He rushed to Evan and broke his neck – oh don’t look so shocked, Evan’s a vampire, he’ll come back to life, eventually.
Kenneth then rushed back to Nella and broke her neck, just to stop her screaming. He was about to do the same to Theo when he remembered that Theo was not a vampire. Kenneth opted for the next best option, he sighed and punched Theo hard in the head, making him go unconscious.
Kenneth sighed and dropped to the floor.
He picked himself up after a while and left the house after locking the door, he had to hunt.
Upir brought her hand down with one final shout. The wind ceased and the liquid stopped boiling.
Lehi sighed with relief, thankfully the voices had stopped.
“You are in control of them now.” Lehi said, half-smiling.
“I am,” Upir said, smiling, “Upir is queen again!”
