Chapter 18

“Go on. Explain what you have in mind,” Quinton said getting straight to the point as he downed his caffeine.
We both sat on the sofas down the hall from the doorway and I shook my head.
“No. We wait for Alexander,” I replied and ran a hand through my loose hair.
I was surprised when Quinton didn’t argue with it as he was the impatient type. He simply smirked and shook his head.
“Fine.”
As if hearing our impatient pleas, the door sounded with a knock, then another.
As I began hoisting myself up, Quinton grabbed my arm and pulled me back down.
“Its open,” he called out.
I gave him a sideways glance as he just winked at me.
The doorknob twisted and slowly opened. I had no idea why, but my heartbeat accelerated as I felt anticipation pump my veins and weird knots appeared in my stomach.
It was an odd feeling.
The door shut closed with a click and I glanced up.
It was Alexander. I already knew that. However seeing him made me feel unexplainable things.
Today Alexander wore an all grey almost black, plaid button down shirt with black pants. His expensive looking silver watch was on display as he brought it up and glanced at it.
He then looked up and I bit down on my tongue as I admired his beauty.
I knew he was attractive. But some days it was too much too handle.
His dark hair was messy and his hazel eyes looked at my blue ones.
“Victoria,” he acknowledged.
“Alexander. Come sit,” I said nodding towards the sofa.
Alexander walked over with his car keys in hand and took a seat opposite Quinton and I. Ironic how he chose the armchair and leaned back.
“We’re all ears Victoria,” Quinton said after giving his boss and friend a nod of acknowledgment.
“Right. As you both know before we get to Marcus, I need to go through with Catelyn and Max. Today’s guy, is Max,” I started with and Alexander nodded as he already knew of the current situation.
“How do you plan on doing that?” Quinton asked.
“You see- today Williams industries have a business meeting with the Sanders. Marcus is letting Max take it and-”
“-the Sanders?” Alexander and Quinton both said at the same time as they looked at me in shock.
The Sanders weren’t really the grouping around type.
“-and,” I ignored, “-If Max gets the deal and the Sanders agree on the project of a new product, Max gets the role of head executive and-”
“And you want to fuck it up,” Quinton finished with a smirk meanwhile Alexander listened quietly his gaze on mine.
“That’s one way to put it,” I shrugged.
I then stood up and fixed up my red blouse as I circled the room, both Alexanders and Quinton’s eyes following me.
“You see, I don’t want him to have head executive,” I went on.
“I want him to have nothing. I want Catelyn to have nothing and I want Marcus to have nothing,” I rambled as I stopped circling the room and started at nothing but empty space.
“I want them to have no wealth, no power,” I now whispered into the silent and steady room.
“Nothing,” I whispered.
I felt hands on my shoulders and a face entered my line of vision making my eyes focus on their hazel eyes.
“And that’s what they’ll have,” Alexander said in quiet voice.
The room became tense and uncomfortable. Quinton also stood up and now we all stood facing each other.
“So what do we do? Ruin the meeting?” All eyes converted to Quinton.
“Yes,” Alexander confirmed as we glanced at him.
“I don’t mean to insult you Quinton, but I thought you’d be able to find some pills or drugs or anything to get Max to ruin his meeting,” I stated and Quinton chuckled.
“You’re asking the wrong guy,” Quinton mused and his eyes converted to Alexander.
“Alexander?” I said even though it came out like a question.
Alexander gave Quinton a look before shaking his head
“When is it?” He said referring to the meeting.
“This evening.”
“I’ll get it to you in an hour,” Alexander said and turned around taking out his phone.
I looked over at Quinton and inched closer.
“What is he? A former drug dealer?” I asked in all seriousness.
Quinton laughed loudly and Alexander sighed.
“Something like that,” Quinton smirked and Alexander grinned.
“I just know a few people.”
Clearly.
*************************************************
It was time. Noon had come and I held the pills tightly in my palm. What was it? I had no idea.
All Alexander said, and I quote,
Its effective.
I currently stood in front of Max’s office. Glancing around left and right, I casually slipped into his office and closed the door shut behind me. Spotting a traveling mug, I rushed over and picked it up off of his desk. Twisting the cap open, I smelt the beverage and smiled.
Coffee.
Slipping in the three tiny white pills, I watched as they dissolved and in seconds disappeared. I nodded my head- impressed.
Screwing the lid back on, I made my way out and in a casual matter strolled down the hall way.
“Victoria!” a voice yelled.
I turned to the right immediately and my heart stopped as I spotted Max rushing over to me with several folders in his hands.
Had he seen me exiting his office?
“Maxwell. Can I help you?” I said politely.
Max stopped once he made it to me and sighed as he handed me his folders. I grabbed then and watched as he fixed his tie.
“You sure can. Follow me.”
Walking back the way I came, Max rushed inside his office. A second later he was out and had his mug of coffee in his hand as he began walking again.
I quickly followed behind. It was much difficult with heels but I didn’t utter a word.
“Alright,” Max said stopping and taking the folders from my hands. He raised his mug to his mouth and tilted his head up as he gulped the whole load down.
I didn’t say anything.
Max’s face scrunched up as he shook his head.
“Wow. That was strong,” he muttered and I laughed.
“I’m guessing you’re a little nervous?” I asked Max as he swiped his card to a nearby door and rushed in as I followed him. We stopped in front of a room with several people inside, sitting on a long conference table.
“A little?” Max chuckled.
He opened his mouth to speak but paused as he frowned and shook his head.
“You alight?” I asked. Were the drugs taking their toll already?
“Yeah,” Max reassured then glanced inside, “-Just nervous. Say, Victoria, you wouldn’t mind coming in with me would you? A friendly face would help.”
I looked at Max and gave him a kind smile and happily nodded my head.
“I would love too.”
I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Max finally opened the door and stepped inside. The small chatter in the room became silent immediately and all the men in suits glued there eyes onto Max. I moved to the back of the room as Max made his way to the front.
“Ah! Mr Sanders!” Max acknowledged a man with light brown hair and dark brown eyes at the front of the table.
“You must be Mr Williams representative?” Mr Sanders said in an expressionless tone and Max nodded.
“Yes Mr Sanders. I’ll be showing you the product,” Max informed and his voice quivered. Placing his folders onto the table, he took a seat at the front of the men and loosened his tie.
Max used the back of his sleeve to wipe away the beads of sweat dripping down his forehead.
Now… Was that the nerves or the drugs?
“Are you alright?” a man sitting beside Mr Sanders asked Max.
Max didn’t seem to hear him as he shook his head again and stood up from his seat.
“Lets ah… Lets get started shall we?” he spoke and opened his folders.
Looking at the papers Max shook his head once again and squinted his eyes. After a few seconds he stopped and closed the folder with a tight smile.
“Well… the robot we have created from our company gives us many electronical advantages,” Max said with a long pause. He opened his folder up again and tried reading it but to no avail.
The men in the room glanced at each other and Mr Sander tilted his head.
“What? That’s all it does?” He said sounding unimpressed.
“No!” Max chuckled and shook his head. He didn’t add to his speech and just chuckled again. In seconds he began laughing and stumbled slightly.
“I’m sorry, is there something amusing?” Mr Sanders asked and glared at Max.
“Does a man need an excuse to laugh?” Max said with a full blown smile.
Mr Sanders angrily stared at Max.
“Is this some sort of joke? I’m here to listen to a presentation about your new product and yet… and yet I get this?” He spoke with rage and Max stayed silent.
I thought perhaps that was it, however Max tried to suppress a laugh. He covered his mouth and laughed behind his palm.
“I’m sorry. I can’t focus with those four eyes on your face. I mean, which one do I look at!” Max said laughing like it was the funniest thing on earth.
“What?” Mr Sanders frowned.
Clearing my throat, I rushed towards the front and grabbed Max’s arm. I was certain he ruined his chance. I had to get him out before the drugs effect disappeared.
The men in the room whispered and muttered.
“Maxwell!” I exclaimed.
“Victoria, were you here the whole time?” Max smiled at me.
I glanced at Mr Sander who looked at the both of us with a frown. Grabbing Max’s arm I pulled him towards the door with me.
“Just a second,” I said to the confused and angry men in the room.
Pulling Max out, I closed the glass door behind me and couldn’t help but smile.
“Why are you smiling?” Max slurred slightly and I grinned as I looked up at him.
“Oh nothing. Max, you should go to your office. Take a rest?” I told him with a smile and batted my eyelashes.
Max looked at my lips and then my eyes before blinking. With a nod, he spun around and stumbled his way down the hall.
Before another second could go by, my phone began ringing. Pulling it out of my back pocket my eyes grew wide as I saw Marcus’ name. Talk about great timing.
“Hello?” I said as I placed it to my ear.
“Victoria. How is everything?” Marcus asked smoothly and I grinned.
“Oh Marcus terrible!” I exclaimed and I could practically see Marcus frown.
“Why? What happened?”
“Mr Sanders! He’s inside the conference room and Maxwell couldn’t present him the product! I don’t know what to do!” I said in my fake voice of worry.
“He what!” Marcus yelled into the receiver and I pulled the phone away from my ear slightly.
“That bastard!” He continued.
“What do we do?” I asked again.
Marcus stayed silent on the other line and I heard glass being shattered before he returned.
“I can’t do anything! I’m three hours away!” Marcus bellowed.
“Wait,” he said and I held the phone tightly.
“Victoria… Can you present the product?” Marcus asked and my mouth opened in shock.
“What?” I said in real amazement.
This wasn’t the plan.
“Please,” Marcus begged, “-just try Victoria. I would hate to have a bad name.”
I glanced at the restless men inside. What the hell was I supposed to do?
“I…”
“Think about it,” Marcus pressed, “-you will get the role of head executive.”
That made my eyebrows shoot up. This could benefit me in my plan of revenge.
I let out a fake sigh, “-Alright Marcus. I’ll try.”
“You’re an angel.”
With that, he hung up.
An angel? I thought to myself. Interesting term.
With a confident smile I spun around and opened the door. The men didn’t bother glancing in my direction as they angrily talked amongst each other.
“Gentlemen, gentlemen!”
Lets get this started.
