“But…” Christian Saltzman still wanted to say something, but Sean Yaleman shot a stern glare at him.
Christian shut up immediately.
Sean stood up first and walked toward the entrance.
The guards opened the door and he disappeared from their vision.
Stella Grace could finally relax. She looked at Jasper Milton and rushed toward him.
She was already prepared for the worst.
She didn’t expect that Bettany Hadley would really turn against Frederick Addington in the end.
Jasper jumped out from the dock and hugged Stella.
“Jasper,” Stella called in a choked voice.
“I’m here,” Jasper replied. He lowered his head and kissed her forehead.
She really liked the way he said those two words. She felt that he could warm her heart and even her whole body despite the cold winter.
She hugged him tightly and tears of joy flowed down from her eyes.
Jasper wiped her tears and said softly, “You didn’t sleep yesterday, did you?”
“I did. But I dreamt that you died, so I didn’t want to sleep anymore,” Stella said while she cried. She wiped her tears away and looked at him with reddened eyes.
“Jasper,” Suzi Shine called.
Jasper hugged Suzi as well, “I’m fine.”
Stella looked at Christian.
Christian glared at her with hatred and left angrily.
Zoahs Davis walked over to them and said, “Congratulations.”
Suzi glanced at Zoahs and accused him, “Congratulations for what? Weren’t you just wishing for his death moments ago? We’ve been friends for so many years. How could you do this?”
“I’m sorry. I was just doing my job,” Zoahs left quickly after greeting them.
Stella looked at Zoahs’ disappearing back.
In this world, there was no such thing as an eternal friend or eternal enemy.
There was a steelyard in everyone’s heart. Zoahs was still polite even though he was trying to put Jasper to death just moments ago.
Jasper took her hand and went out.
She saw Frederick.
He was standing by the entrance.
If she had guessed correctly, Bettany was looking for Frederick when she was looking around the courtroom. Perhaps, she decided to turn against Frederick when she did not see him there.
She knew that her life would be at risk as well if she were to put Jasper to death. She could only survive if she still had some use for others.
Also, she could only see Frederick if and only if she survived.
“Could I speak to you alone?” Frederick looked at Stella deeply.
Jasper clenched Stella’s hand.
Stella nodded at Jasper.
Jasper let go of her hand, “I’ll wait for you outside.”
“Okay,” Stella replied.
Frederick walked towards the end of the corridor. Stella followed behind him and went into the corridor.
He looked at her and said nothing.
“You said that you wanted to talk to me alone. You’re not just going to look at me, are you?” Stella asked.
“Have you detoxified all the poison in your body?” Frederick asked.
“My bone marrow has been replaced and I survived after going through a series of treatments,” Stella didn’t want to tell him the specifics, so she merely answered his questions vaguely.
“Back then, I didn’t really want to kill you. I just wanted to keep you by my side,” Frederick explained.
“Perhaps it was destined. Now that you have met Linda, it’s also a reward for you as you have been waiting for so many years. After all, she is very similar to me and she likes your appearance very much. You two are a perfect match.
Don’t be a playboy anymore. So what if you have slept with so many women? What memories do you keep after those nights?
It’s not easy for you to earn the money you have now.
We just want to find the right person in our life. Only with that person will we not feel lonely,” Stella said softly.
“If Jasper dies, you will die with him, right?” Frederick asked.
“No matter through life or death, we will be together,” Stella said with certainty.
Frederick’s eyes were full of regret and he looked at her deeply, “If I had cherished you at that time, perhaps I too could have found someone who could stay together with me for the rest of my life.”
“Let go of the past and cherish what you have now. You could still find someone who will accompany you for the rest of your life. The affection between humans must be mutual. If you treat others well, others will treat you well too. If you are sincere to others, others will also be sincere to you.”
“I seem to have missed the most precious thing,” Frederick said with regret.
“It is destined.”
“Stella, do you hate me?” Frederick asked, clenching his fists.
He realized that he was very concerned about this answer.
“I wish that I had never seen you nor met you in this life,” Stella said calmly.
Frederick took a step back and looked at Stella sadly.
Stella smiled faintly, like a flower that bloomed on a winter’s day, “Thank you for letting Jasper off.”
“I was afraid that you would die,” Frederick said in a deep voice.
Stella nodded and turned around.
Frederick held her wrist.
Stella looked at him and said, “You already have Linda, so don’t be fickle in the future. As you said, she is innocent and she doesn’t have much experience in love. You could develop a good relationship with her. You don’t love me anymore.”
Frederick dropped his arm dejectedly.
Was it too late for him to take back those words?
At that time, he was very excited to see Linda because she looked exactly like Stella. He thought Stella was dead, so he said those words to Natalie deliberately.
However, after getting along with Linda for two days, he was sure that the girl was not the woman he wanted. She was just a little girl and there was a communication gap between them. She was no different from the woman he had toyed with before.
He was tired of having flings now. He just wanted to find a woman he loved and settle down.
He envied Jasper very much.
Stella was willing to do anything for him.
If he could do anything for Stella, would she accept him one day?
She was very smart. Just now, she had guessed that it was he who had deliberately let Jasper off. She could feel his sincerity, right?
Frederick could not do anything apart from watching Stella leave.
Stella walked out of the Cabinet and saw Jasper.
He stood in front of the car, waiting for her.
She walked toward him.
He rubbed her head and said, “Are you hungry? Mom has made a reservation at a restaurant. I called Elvis and the others to come over. Let’s have a meal together and we’ll have a good sleep at home after we finish eating.”
Stella smiled and said, “Okay, let’s celebrate your safe return.”
Jasper had the support of the people. Therefore, many people were willing to sacrifice for him when he was in trouble. He deserved their trust and efforts.
She got into the car.
“Madam, you are so intelligent. Chief Levis and I have done nothing apart from feeling anxious about this whole thing,” Elvis praised her.
Jasper looked at Stella and asked, “How did you convince Bettany?”
“She did all that because of love. It’s not about me, but Frederick. Let’s not talk about this first. Who is in charge of Bettany now? She is a time bomb at this moment and she will explode at any time,” Stella said worriedly.
“I’ll inquire,” Elvis immediately made a call.
“I hope that she won’t be in the hands of Christian,” Stella sighed.
“I don’t think so. Zoahs, Christian, and I were all implicated. She is most probably with Sean.” Jasper guessed.
“Chief, she’s with the President,” Elvis reported.
