Dave was confused and disoriented. He contacted Finn and prepared to enjoy himself, letting Finn drive him home.
As soon as Dave got out of the car, the cameras were on him, and the flashlights wouldn’t stop.
“Stop taking pictures! I haven’t washed my face yet!”
Without any preparation, Dave was used as Baron’s shield.
It was hot. There were beads of sweat and acne marks on Dave’s face. The acne marks were traces of Dave’s youth.
“Guys, can you delete the pictures?”
The paparazzi didn’t use beauty cameras. And their cameras were high-pixels. Dave was afraid that he would be embarrassed if his pictures were made a trending topic. He wasn’t ready to enter the entertainment industry.
“The rich man is in the car. People, go for it!”
Seeing Dave, the paparazzi knew he was probably just a driver. They became excited again and went closer to observe the Lamborghini Gallardo.
Completely unaffected by the paparazzi, Baron calmly called Hazel. “I am at the main entrance of the police station now.”
Hazel rubbed her forehead. There were paparazzi waiting at the main entrance. So, Hazel took a detour to avoid unnecessary trouble.
However, Baron, such a proud and confident man, wouldn’t care about that.
Kyle comforted Michel. Michel calmed down a little. Hazel said goodbye to them and hurried out.
Baron saw Hazel, who was wearing light green clothes and looked eye-catching in the hot summer.
“Get in the car.”
Baron quickly opened the car door. The sports car made a smooth turn and disappeared from the paparazzi in the blink of an eye.
It was the first time that Hazel had been in a sports car. She felt a little uncomfortable. Hazel used a wet towel to wipe the sweat on her forehead. “Are you available today? Don’t you have work to do?”
“I am busy. But I am always available to you.”
Baron said such sweet words coolly as he drove the car calmly.
“Is it a movie line?”
Hazel did not feel romantic at all. On the contrary, she felt horrified. It was as if someone was peeping at their daily lives and that they had to talk like a sweet couple in a movie.
Baron was speechless.
He learned that from Roger. Baron rarely said such romantic things. Roger said that almost all the women would be touched. Clearly, Hazel wasn’t one of them.
She was so unromantic. But Baron couldn’t do anything about it. He doubted if his following steps would go well.
The Lamborghini moved fast. Half an hour later, Baron and Hazel arrived at the largest amusement park in City J.
It was not the weekend, and there were not many people.
Hazel got out of the car and looked at Baron strangely. She didn’t know what he wanted to do.
“It was sunny just now, but now the dark clouds are covering the sky. It seems that it will rain soon.”
The weather forecast was indeed accurate, but Hazel did not bring an umbrella with her.
“Why are we here?”
Baron did say anything. Hazel had to ask.
“Let’s go.”
In Baron’s memory, he had not come to an amusement park once. As the heir of the Floyd Group, Baron had not had much time to play since childhood.
Baron had once imagined that his parents would take him to the amusement park to have fun. Unfortunately, it was an unattainable dream.
All those years, Baron’s mother had been telling Baron to concentrate on his studies and work.
Hazel had not been to an amusement park for at least ten years. Everything seemed new to her. Though she had seen those things a lot on TV, Hazel felt amazing when she really saw them.
She was especially amazed by the roller coaster. When the long car suddenly fell down in mid-air, the screams of the people on it could be heard from afar.
There were roars and cries mixed in, scaring a lot of people who were looking up from below.
“Hi, would you like to have fun in the haunted house?”
A young man wearing a mask asked. His mask was green and with sharp teeth. It scared many children who passed by. Faced with the accusations of the parents, the young man did not care at all and continued to invite customers. “People, don’t miss it! People dress like ghosts here. In City J, only we do that! And to create an atmosphere of terror, we only accept two guests every time! There are also free gifts! Come in, and you can get umbrellas. It’s going to rain soon!”
The car was in the parking lot. It was a few minutes’ walk away. Baron remembered what Dave said on the way. He narrowed his eyes and asked Hazel, “Are you afraid?”
“What should I be afraid of? I haven’t done anything bad.”
Hazel raised her head. Her face was full of disdain. People dressed like ghosts, but they weren’t real ghosts. Hazel didn’t think it was scary.
Baron and Hazel bought tickets and entered the spook house. Hazel regretted it a little. She shouldn’t have pretended to be so brave. Hazel found the spook house amazingly horrifying.
The structure of the haunted house was very strange. As soon as they entered, the cold and wet wind, mixed with the smell of mud, blew on their faces. It was creepy and gave them goosebumps.
There were uneven rocks on both sides. The rocks were painted red. The walls were rough. In the cracks of the rocks, there were retro and dim lights. The lights were flickering.
“It was very realistic.”
Though afraid, Hazel acted tough. She managed to give an objective comment.
“If you’re afraid, hold on to me.”
Baron’s deep eyes seemed to be smiling slightly. And the smile in his eyes disappeared soon before Hazel noticed it.
Hazel blinked her eyes. For a moment, she felt that she had an illusion.
Baron’s smile lit up the darkness and became the guide of light.
After walking for a few meters, Baron and Hazel were on a suspended bridge with iron chains. Below the bridge was the abyss. There were chains on both sides and wooden planks under their feet. When Baron and Hazel walked on the bridge, the bridge shook, and there were creaky echoes.
Hazel crossed her arms and felt like they were walking toward hell.
“What is it?”
Hazel felt that there was something cold holding her ankle. She couldn’t move her body and looked back under the dim light.
Hazel was scared.
She screamed out.
“What’s wrong?”
Baron turned around nervously and saw Hazel bending over in a strange posture. He walked back to her quickly.
“There is a hand! There is a bloody hand!”
Though knowing that everything inside the haunted house was fake, Hazel couldn’t help but scream out. She couldn’t get over the fear in her heart.
Hazel was too scared to continue pretending. She threw herself into Baron’s arms as if Baron was her life-saving straw.
Holding Hazel in his arms, Baron thought secretly, ‘Dave really helped a lot this time. I should add his bonus this month.’
It was a usual move. But it was okay because it worked.
Baron didn’t need to force Hazel. Hazel threw herself into his arms voluntarily. Baron thought he should consider watching horror movies with Hazel.
“Don’t be afraid. I am here with you.”
Baron gently stroked Hazel’s smooth hair. Feeling her soft body and smelling her faint fragrance, Baron felt amazed. His heart beat fast.
Hazel felt a little more secure when she smelled the familiar mint scent from Baron. She found that the bloody hand on her ankle withdrew.
Hazel thought, ‘Do I look so weak?’
Hazel was dissatisfied that the ghost didn’t choose to scare Baron. She told herself that it was all fake. Hazel made up her mind to be cool.
The haunted house had some magical power. After being scared, people would be eager to explore it.
“Hold on to my hand.”
Baron held Hazel’s hand firmly. They moved forward hand in hand.
Along the way, there were small tools that appeared above their heads from time to time. They were either toy bats or bloody broken limbs. Besides, the music was terrifying. Hazel screamed all the way.
Baron was very calm in the darkness. He had no strong emotions. But his eyes were glittering.
