Bram scowled at me and crossed his arms to his chest, “I will do no such thing!”
We stared at each other for a moment then I removed my blanket, “Fine!” I walked on the bed to the opposite side so Bram would not reach me. Then I headed to the door.
“Where are you going?” Bram yelled.
“I’m sleeping in my old room!” I yelled back. Then I heard a loud thud. I hurriedly walked back to our room and saw Bram on the floor. I ran to him and held his right arm to help him get up, “Are you okay?”
Bram scowled at me, “What do you think?”
I looked at his injured leg for any bleeding, there was none. I looked up to him, “Do you want me to walk with you to the couch?”
“I already apologized, Emma,” Bram said to me, “If you had known me my entire life, you’d know that I’m too proud to do that.”
I thought for a moment, “Alright, I’ll get your things from the couch. I will only allow you to sleep with me if you tell me what happened between you and Connor.” Then I assisted Bram towards his side of the bed.
“Can we just forget about what happened and sleep?” He was trying to escape my questioning.
“Explain it to me or you sleep on the couch, pick one?” I said as I fixed his pillow and blanket on the bed.
“You’re a hard woman, Emma,” Bram complained while he removed his walking boot, “Cut me some slack, I feel down today because I could not let go of my walking boot.”
He turned on his lamp on the nightstand then I turned the room lights off. I walked to my side of the bed then we both laid down. I rested my head on his right armpit and placed my right arm to his lower chest, “Start talking now, my love. I’m waiting.”
Bram released a long breath, “The new COO was Connor’s stepbrother.”
I sat up, “Really? That guy is Connor’s brother?”
Bram groaned, “Emma, this is not important. Let’s just sleep.”
“Unimportant?” I emphasized, “Why did Connor go to the house just to pick me up and lie about a helicopter tour? Is that how unimportant this is?” I reasoned with Bram.
He did not say anything. He closed his eyes and shook his head. I give up! I fixed my pillow and laid down to my side of the bed. I pulled my blanket up to my shoulder then reached for my lamp.
I was startled when my phone rang. My screen showed Roland. I thought it was late already so I checked the time on my phone, it showed ten o’clock.
“Hello?” I answered him.
“I’m in the shawarma joint, can you pick me up?” Roland said from the other line.
I got off the bed and went out of the bedroom, “What happened?”
“Alicia and I fought, and we brought her car, then she left me here. I had no one else to call, Emma,” Roland explained.
I touched my belly because I felt the baby moved, “How about Grab? Book a car using the app?”
“I didn’t think of that,” Roland responded, “Will you reimburse me?”
I shook my head, “Okay, I’ll reimburse you. Call me when you get home.” I told Roland, then we hung up.
I sighed and stared at my phone for a moment. I was thinking why my brother did not have cash on him? Or even a budget? Mom always gave him a monthly allowance. And he was being paid by mom’s manager when he worked for the restaurant. Where was he taking all his money?
“Was that Roland?” Bram asked, he was holding the bedroom door.
I nodded at him, “Yeah, Alicia ditched him in a shawarma joint near our area.”
Bram nodded, “Let’s go to bed.”
Bram opened the door wide for me. I walked slowly as I typed a message to mom. I was telling her about what had happened to Roland. Mom ended up calling me.
“He could have called me!” Mom raised her voice in frustration.
“I know, I was surprised that he called me when I’m so far away,” I said to mom. I sat at the edge of my bedside.
“Do you think this is because he knew that he was not my son? He’s being rebellious? Or maybe he’s in pain?” mom said frantically.
“Calm down,” I told her, “You need to talk to him about this mom.”
“I tried! Many times! I even apologized that he found out,” mom explained, frustrated.
“Okay,” I responded to mom, then I held my belly because the baby moved again. Bram hugged me from the back. He placed his left hand on my hand caressing my belly.
“Are you there, Emma?” Mom asked from the other line.
“Yes, I’m here,” I said to mom, “The baby moved. I think I startled him…or her.” I explained to mom. Then I felt Bram rested his chin on my left neck.
“I’m sorry that you have to deal with this, dear. You should sleep now. I will call Roland.” Then mom hung up.
I was placing my phone on the nightstand when I felt Bram cupped my left breast. I turned to him with a questioning look, “I thought you want to sleep?”
“Well, when I felt the movement of the baby, I became…inspired?” Bram said with a naughty smile.
I laughed at him, “Inspired or aroused?”
“What do you think?” Bram said instead of answering my question. Then he made me lie down on the bed.
“I’m five months pregnant, Bram,” I reminded him with a giggle.
“I don’t understand it either,” Bram caressed my baby bump, “The more your tummy gets bigger, the more I want you.”
I smiled at him, “Maybe you need counseling or something?”
“Or I just need you,” Bram reasoned, then he pulled my pajama bottoms.
“Wait!” I stopped his hands, “Why did Connor do all of that and for what?” I just could not drop this subject.
Bram sighed, “Connor wanted me to not vote for his brother so he would not get the position.”
“And? Did you vote for him?” I asked as I unbuttoned my top.
“What do you think, Emma?” Bram asked with sarcasm.
I stopped unbuttoning my top and narrowed my eyes at him, “You’re not striking the proper tone, Josef!”
Bram scratched his head, “I owned fifty percent of the company Emma, what do you think will happen?”
“Are you saying that I’m dumb?” Then I crossed my arms to my chest.
“I voted for Connor’s brother, baby.” Then he cupped my right breast and kissed me, “Are you done interrogating me?”
I smiled at him and locked my hands at the back of his neck, “Yes, my love.”
Bram looked into my eyes while lowering himself to me, “You’re driving me mad, Emma.”
I smiled at him, “Are you complaining?”
Bram just shook his head and kissed me.
