Edie was wearing a decent tailcoat. He held Hazel’s hand and walked down the stairs. They attracted the attention of everyone present.
Whoops and cheers could be heard among the gathered crowds. They applauded and gave them a grand welcome as if they were king and queen.
Hazel tried to keep a smile. She told herself that she was just an actor in a play.
“Edie, behave!”
Roger was on pins and needles in the hall. Everyone was curious about the gossip between him and Edie. Some people walked up to him and joked about it.
Even if they were not malicious, the buzzing of the crowd made him agitated.
It was so surprising. Prickly Ms. Turner didn’t find fault with Hazel. On the contrary, she took Mr. Garnett’s girlfriend. It was a rivalry between Edie and Roger.
“Mr. Garnett, it seems that I am more attractive than you!”
Edie made a triumphant smile. She held Hazel’s hand and passed by Roger.
“This is my good friend, Hazel. I hope you guys can look out for her in the future.”
Edie was willing to introduce Hazel to the rich.
“Ms. Hazel is a late-comer in show business!”
People nodded and praised Hazel for a while because of Hazel.
Hazel knew that very well. She had to keep a low profile and express her thanks to them. She did not belong to the elite. Hazel was an unknown actress who fended for herself and lodged in her friends’ house. A luxurious and fantastic life would never come to her.
These rich ladies were talking about jewelry and antiques which were strange to Hazel.
“These women are so boring. Hazel, are you available on the weekend? How about we ride a horse?”
Edie didn’t look down on Hazel, so she invited her. Crazy and exciting sports were Edie’s type.
If she had been born in ancient times, Edie might have become a female general who led troops and fought on the battlefield. Suddenly, she felt that she was born at the wrong time.
“But, I don’t know how to do it.”
It was not appropriate for Hazel to say no.
Elva told Hazel that friends didn’t have to share the same ideas and interests.
Sincere people would be set up by manipulative people.
“It doesn’t matter. I will teach you.”
Edie was in high spirits. If someone familiar with Edie saw this, he or she would be shocked. How did Ms. Turner show a preference for a small actress?
“Hazel, I will visit you at movie sets when I am available.”
After the conversation, they became familiar with each other, and Hazel was more relaxed than before. She began to cooperate with Mr. Field next week and would be the sister of the unsophisticated heroine in the play.
Although Hazel was not the leading actress, she was still an important role, and she decided to do it well.
Sally raised her glass and gulped down the wine. She looked displeased and irritated.
At first, Sally intended to let Edie teach Hazel a lesson, but they made friends at last. That pissed off Sally.
“Hey, Hazel, what are you talking about? Why are you so happy?”
Sally was upset and put on a smile that was perfect and sincere in her eyes. She walked to Hazel and Edie.
Although Hazel didn’t like Sally, Sally was still a senior. It was not proper to refuse a polite person.
“I’m talking about horseback riding with Edie.”
Edie did not say anything. Hazel replied politely and tried to avoid silence.
“Wow!”
Sally looked excited and clapped her hands.
Although horseback riding was very rude, she was willing to try the sport which she hated because it was a chance to make friends with Edie.
The music stopped in the hall, and everyone looked at the platform which was built for a short time in the front of the hall.
Sally squinted at Hazel disrespectfully. After a while, she would be the focus of attention.
Reporters were invited inside and the auction was about to begin.
“Ms. Johnson, it’s your showtime!”
Potbelly grimaced. One of the collections belonged to him and no one knew that.
Before Potbelly arrived here, Sally and he plotted that they would push up the price and split the money.
Potbelly got 80% while Sally got 20%.
Sally liked to accept it because it was easy and profitable.
Only idiots refused money!
Potbelly had once invited Sally to be his lover but was rejected by Sally. Sally was a pop star and didn’t need a rich man even if she was no longer popular.
In particular, it was a shame to be chosen by a fat upstart.
She had a successful life because she was calculating and stoic.
Her next plan was to marry a wealthy man, and Roger was the best choice.
Beautiful ladies matched rich guys very well.
“Mr. Garnett, the auction has begun. I heard that there are a lot of treasures today.”
Sally winked at Potbelly and walked to Roger and chatted him up.
A portion of the money exchanged for collections would be donated to charity organizations.
Reporters watched and waited for the whole process, just for the interview after the auction.
“Yes, Ms. Johnson has always been enthusiastic about public welfare. She must have a plan.”
Roger stared at Edie and felt agitated. Of course, he didn’t play nice with Sally who was talking to him.
Roger greeted her out of politeness.
He saw Baron’s car outside just now.
That was true! He came here!
There was no Shipwrecked at the auction. Mr. Andrew had a lot of antiques, paintings, and jewelry. Maybe he appeared because of the masquerade ball.
It was said that Baron was ugly. He hardly showed up and was still wearing a mask this time.
Roger finished that and started to get distracted.
Sally chuckled and felt embarrassed.
“This is Mr. Garnett’s sense of humor? Collections at the auction today range from 5 million yuan to millions of yuan.”
Sally had been in show business for many years. Apart from some real estate, she couldn’t take out that much money. Besides, she would only buy some poor porcelain bottles and stones when she became a fool! She just drove the prices up with Potbelly.
Sally was plotting something while Hazel kept looking at the door.
“Hazel, the auction is very interesting. Do you have anything you like? It’s my treat.”
Edie didn’t care about the price at all.
The rich could do anything they wanted!
“No, thanks.”
Hazel subconsciously refused Edie. If she knew what Edie meant, she would be stunned.
Hazel saw Dave waving at her at the door. How could he come here? For business?
Could it be…
No way?
Hazel felt anxious because she might come across Baron who brought bad luck to her.
“Oh! Dave is back!”
The auctioneer and the emcee went on stage and showed the first collection that came from Guan Kiln in the Song Dynasty.
Edie glanced at it and disliked the patterns on it. She looked at Hazel and wanted to find out what she was looking at. Suddenly, she clapped and burst into laughter.
Ryder was coming here. Next to the show!
