Kenny was helpless. As Ryder’s assistant, he could deal with any trouble he encountered in business. But this time was different as it was related to the reputation of the Langdon family.
If the problem wasn’t resolved properly and his boss was to take the blame, then Ryder’s reputation would be ruined.
Kayden went back on his word and ruthlessly laid a trap for Ryder although it was not the most fatal.
Kenny sighed. The security guards could only block the reporters for a while. When those reporters rushed in, they would disturb Ryder.
“I’ll go to talk to the doctor.”
Marina knocked on the door and went straight to the doctor’s office. She wanted to know Ryder’s condition.
“Mrs. Langdon, Mr. Langdon lost too much blood. Although he was given a blood transfusion in time, he is still in a coma and in a critical condition.”
The next 72 hours were critical after the blood transfusion since there might be a rejection. People had different physiques, and the doctor did not dare to make a conclusion.
“Doctor, sorry to trouble you.”
Marina frowned. The situation did not look good now.
The press conference was imminent. The media would make a lot of speculation if this matter was not explained clearly.
However, this was a scandal of the family. What Yazmin had done was the last thing that Ryder wanted to mention.
It was like the wounds on one’s body. It was too personal to show the wounds to the outsiders. What they could do was to wait silently for the wounds to heal.
However, after so many years, the wounds were not healed yet with scars on the surface. They would bleed again once touched.
Marina had to face the dilemma.
“Send the reporters to the big conference room of the hospital.”
The reporters were besieging the hospital, which was likely to cause trouble for other patients.
These reporters were willing to disregard professional ethics to get useful information. Marina could not hide from them but face them.
Marina thought about it and made a decision.
Just as she was about to talk to the media, Jane called her.
“Marina, bad news!”
On the other side of the line, Jane’s voice was very anxious and apologetic. “Marina, listen, I’m really sorry.”
“What’s wrong?”
Marina felt chilled, thinking that something bad must have happened.
“Nicole… It’s about Nicole…”
“Is Nicole missing?” Marina was shocked to hear Jane’s words.
‘Did someone go to City J to kidnap Nicole?’ Marina trembled and thought. She had to hold the wall to steady herself. She should not panic at this time.
“It’s not what you think.”
On the other side of the line, Jane took a deep breath and explained the situation as clearly as she could.
In the morning, Jane and William went together to attend an important meeting, leaving Nicole at home.
Their house had a strict security system and the two of them were confident about it.
As soon as the two of them left, some people came to their house.
“A few people came. They claimed to be the housekeeper and maids of the Langdon family. They said that Mr. Langdon was dying and wanted to take Nicole back.”
For this reason, the Langdon family did not hesitate to send out their private plane.
This excuse made it hard for the Duncan family to refuse. Moreover, Nicole confirmed that these people worked for Kayden and she recognized all of them.
“At that time, the butler called me, but I was in the meeting and the phone was in mute mode, so I missed the call.”
When Jane found it out and returned the call, she was told that Nicole had been taken away by those people.
Jane had not heard of Kayden’s critical illness, so she thought it was a scam.
Jane couldn’t find Nicole and called Marina, hoping that Marina was mentally prepared.
“Marina, are you listening?”
Nicole was a member of the Langdon family. It was not likely that they would hurt her.
“Jane, I don’t blame you for this.”
Marina took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down, but her body kept trembling and she couldn’t stop it. Marina hated herself for being useless.
If Ryder was awake, it would not have been so complicated.
Marina rubbed her red eyes. No one could give her any advice now. She was on her own.
Hanging up the phone, Marina hesitated and dialed the Langdon’s number, but no one answered.
It was impossible that no one was at home. The only explanation was that Kayden let the family not take the call on purpose.
Marina understood that Kayden was using Nicole to threaten her, warning her not to talk nonsense.
How despicable it was!
Marina hesitated for a moment and decided to ask Bailey for help. Compared to Claudia, Bailey handled things more efficiently. Marina and Bailey became an alliance then with common interests, which was the most stable and solid kind of relationship.
People were more likely to betray their family or friends than the alliance as the alliance was practical enough not to do something to hurt their own benefits.
Even if Kayden changed his mind, Marina believed that Bailey wouldn’t sit there and did nothing before Bailey got what she wanted.
“Are you saying that Mr. Langdon took Nicole away?”
Bailey couldn’t believe what she had heard. Nicole didn’t return to the old house, which meant she was somewhere else.
“Yes.”
Marina had to face the reporters. She could only ask Bailey to inquire about Nicole. Her daughter was Marina’s bottom line. Marina thought that they would get easy on her if Marina was willing to give up the family properties. Now Marina thought about it and wondered why she should spare the Langdon family.
“I’ll get someone to keep an eye on Mark. I’ll let you know if I get any news.”
Marina knew that Kayden was suffering from a terminal disease. It was true.
That was why Kayden was worried and wanted Mark to inherit most of the properties before he died. As for the other two sons’ families, they only inherited a few properties.
It was equal to sending off beggars when the other two sons’ families could only inherit less than a thousandth of the properties worth hundreds of billions.
Kayden was so desperate that he was willing to apply any despicable means, including using a child and forcing his own son to die.
Marina hung up the phone and calmly walked into the conference room in her high heels.
When Marina walked to the door, the reporters immediately stopped talking and stared at her.
As an anime designer who worked behind the scenes, Marina rarely faced reporters. She managed her facial expression. If she showed her weakness now, she would lose the battle.
“I’m here. Ask away if you have any questions. One by one, please.”
Marina felt too tired to say anything courtesy.
“Mrs. Langdon, may I ask how Mr. Langdon is doing now? Did he commit suicide as the rumor said? Is his life in danger?”
Someone asked first.
“Did Mr. Langdon commit suicide because he lost to Mark for the inheritance? Or is there something else we don’t know about?”
The reporters were likely to have been paid off as they directly asked questions related to suicide to deliberately disgrace Ryder.
“Before answering the question, I want to ask you a question. Which is more important, money or life?”
These reporters wanted to lead the topic. Then Marina would take a detour and teach these people a lesson first.
