Marina was eating fruit and was stunned when she saw the shadow at the door. She looked at Shawn and asked, “You informed him?”
Shawn shook his head. He and his father hoped that Marina could divorce quickly and get out of the abyss of misery.
“This is Norton’s hospital.”
Shawn explained. There was a traffic jam at that time. He could only send Marina to the nearest hospital. Norton’s hospital was the closest and the best.
“I see.”
It was Norton’s hospital, so Ryder felt that it was not difficult to get the news. After all, they were on good terms.
“Get out,” Ryder said.
Ryder leaned against the door.
Shawn was confused. “Are you talking to me?” Shawn pointed at himself.
“You shouldn’t be here.”
After all, Ryder was still Marina’s husband now.
Shawn was angry and thought, “When Marina divorces you, you’ll be an outsider.”
“Shawn, he might have something to say to me.”
Although she didn’t want to face Ryder alone, Marina was afraid that Ryder would hold a grudge against Shawn. She had to smooth things over.
“Marina, I’ll be outside. You can call me if anything happens. I can hear you.”
Before Shawn went out, he looked back many times. Obviously, he was worried.
Ryder was annoyed and felt that he was ostracized as an outsider.
“Marina, what the hell are you doing? Now you let me see you with this trick. Why were you angry last night?”
There was a trance of coldness in Ryder’s tone. As she wished, he really came.
Marina raised her eyebrows. She found it hard to clear herself now. She didn’t ask Ryder to come here. It was a misunderstanding, but she didn’t know how to explain it.
Marina knew Ryder well after getting along with him. Once she denied it, he would think that she had ulterior motives.
“Yes, I did it on purpose. I want to see you.”
Marina choked down her tears and forced herself to regain composure. She lowered her head and pretended to be pitiful. “Yesterday, you gave your coat to that woman. I was very sad.”
Marina cooked up an excuse.
“Sad?”
Ryder sat on the sofa. It was just a coat.
Ryder felt very disgusted when Maeve hugged him yesterday.
“Yes, you were hugging each other in front of me.”
Marina wore a pitiful look.
“Did you consider my feelings when you wanted to keep a man at Twilight Bar?”
Ryder lazily leaned on the sofa and thought that she had gone too far.
Marina’s face darkened. It was the mess left by Mary. She was wronged.
Marina didn’t know what else Mary had done.
The man who suddenly rushed to her in the mall made Marina particularly embarrassed. The good thing was that the driver took Nicole away. Otherwise, she didn’t know how to explain it to her daughter.
“I said that because I was drunk. I wouldn’t have said that if you’re kind to me.”
Marina could only make a scene and shift the blame onto Ryder.
“Do you mean that it’s my fault? I have been busy with work and give you the cold shoulder. You felt empty and lonely, so you wanted to keep a man? That’s what you think?”
Ryder stood up and pinned Marina down.
Marina blushed and her heart started pumping. She thought of that kiss and didn’t dare to move.
“I … I didn’t mean that.”
Marina twitched her lips and her mind went blank.
Ryder gave off a smell of tobacco. But she liked this smell.
Damn it!
Their eyes met. He felt aroused now.
He stopped restraining himself.
“Daddy, Mommy, what are you doing?”
Nicole rubbed her eyes and asked in a daze.
When she fell asleep, she seemed to hear Ryder talking. When she opened her eyes, she realized that it was not a dream.
Ryder was stunned.
“I’m whispering to Mommy.”
Ryder quickly got up, took a few steps back, and sat on the sofa. Then he regained his composure.
“But Mommy’s face is so red.”
Nicole looked at Ryder, then at Marina.
Marina touched her cheek. It was very hot. She had no experience and didn’t know how to refuse him. This man was very attractive. If she hadn’t known Mary’s tragic ending, she would have fallen in love with him.
She heaved a sigh and thought, “It’s better to avoid contact and divorce early.”
“Because your mommy is sick.”
Ryder told a lie and remained calm. After hearing it, Nicole was worried and held Marina’s arm.
They had to pretend to be on good terms in front of Nicole.
Marina had to continue to cooperate with him. She was not an actress. But she had to practice her acting skills hard for the sake of her life. At least, she could not let Ryder notice it.
“Daddy, I was very happy at my grandpa’s house. Mommy took me to the mall today and bought me the cotton candy.”
Nicole spoke a lot. Although it was not fluent, she was like a three-year-old child now.
“Next time, I’ll take you to the beach, okay?” Ryder said.
Ryder found that he was busy with work and could only look at Nicole when he went home. He had never taken Nicole to the seaside.
“Really?”
Nicole’s eyes lit up with expectation.
“Of course. Let’s hook up the little fingers.”
Ryder walked to Nicole and held up his little finger.
“Great, I can be with daddy and mommy again. Let’s go to the beach!”
Nicole was so happy that she jumped on the sickbed with a cute expression.
Ryder twitched his mouth. He only said that he would take Nicole to the beach. Was Nicole mistaken?
But Nicole was so happy and Ryder’s heart softened. He didn’t want to have her spirits dampened.
Now the whole family would go to the seaside for a vacation.
Marina felt distressed. Although she wanted to go out with Nicole, she couldn’t feel at ease with Ryder. She felt insecure.
“Forget it! I’ll go for the sake of Nicole.”
