Chapter 328 It Is Always Your Fault

The more Shawn thought about it, the angrier he got. He had to ask Ryder for an explanation!
“Shawn, don’t be rash. Don’t go.”
Marina grabbed Shawn’s arm and shook her head weakly.
It was not a good time to question him. Marina just wanted to go upstairs and rest for a while. She wanted to take the opportunity to recuperate for a few days in the White’s.
Compared to returning to the prison of the Landon’s, the days in the White’s were too comfortable!
“Can you get over it?”
After drinking a few glasses of red wine, Shawn was tipsy, and he felt like rolling up his sleeves and fighting with Ryder.
Shawn thought, ‘He was nothing but an illegitimate child, and this fact would be changed even when he became the President of the Landon Group. As expected, he is like his mother who liked to seduce people everywhere.’
Shawn had already treated Maeve as his girlfriend, so he was extremely annoyed.
“I can’t get it over, but it’s useless to make a fuss. What’s done is done.”
Marina didn’t care about it at all and just waited for Ryder to come to her. Given Ryder’s personality, even if he was misunderstood, he would not explain.
He didn’t care about her, nor did he care about her emotions. He even didn’t feel like explaining to her.
Marina said a few words to Shawn and went upstairs to rest.
It was good for Marina to be at home. She could be free!
In the bathroom, Maeve lowered her head, waiting for the president to give her a lecture.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Landon. It was all because of me that your wife misunderstood you.”
Maeve apologized sincerely, indicating that she was willing to explain to Marina.
“No need.”
Ryder was very annoyed, especially when Marina looked at him with watery eyes as she went out. Did she misunderstand and feel sad?
The reason for the marriage between the two families was known well by the couple. In the past three or four years, no one had expressed anything, and there were very few opportunities for them to get along.
Ryder recalled carefully and found that he did not know Marina at all.
Did he need to explain? But why did he explain while Marina was also looking for other men outside?
“It’s all my fault.”
Maeve lowered her eyes humbly.
“Let’s go.”
It was getting late. If they continued to stay in the bathroom, it would only attract more people. Ryder was one step ahead, and Maeve followed closely.
The guests were dancing, and no one noticed them.
“Where is Marina?”
Ryder asked one of the Landon family’s maids but didn’t get the answer.
“Marina just said that she was a little uncomfortable and went upstairs to rest. I said that I would accompany her, but she said that she wanted to stay alone.”
When Lola saw Ryder, she immediately informed him of Marina. When she saw Maeve who followed closely behind, Lola immediately got annoyed.
She had seen plenty of women like Maeve in bars. Maeve had happened to come to attend the White family’s birthday banquet wearing the same dress with the master and did not take the initiative to replace the dress. How rude!
“I don’t know what you are planning, but I advise you not to implement it. The marriage of rich and powerful families is based on similar social status. What do you have?”
What Lola said was the truth, but it instantly sent Maeve into hell.
Maeve had been an abandoned child since childhood and was raised in an orphanage. When she was little, her adoptive parents brought her home.
Her adoptive mother was a sanitation worker, and her adoptive father was a part-time worker.
The purpose of her adoptive parents adopting her was to wait for her to grow up and be her nominal brother’s wife, so that her adoptive parents could save a lot of money and they could continue to live together.
The whole family agreed with this idea.
Maeve only found out when she was fifteen years old that her brother had found her adoptive parents and said that he wanted to establish a relationship with her earlier because he wanted to have sex with her.
Her brother peeped at her when she was bathing, and he couldn’t suppress his lust.
“She’s your wife. You can do whatever you want, but there’s one thing. Don’t make her pregnant, or we’ll have to take her to the abortion.”
The foster parents were meticulous and had no objections to this.
Maeve hid outside the door and heard everything.
No wonder she always felt someone lift her quilt when she was asleep, and she always felt weird when taking a shower. It made sense!
For fear of being discovered by the family, Maeve covered the quilt and secretly cried all night.
She didn’t want to submit to this kind of fate! She was so good-looking. Why should she marry such a person? She refused to do it!
For the next two or three days, Maeve went to school every day, but she skipped class.
Maeve was planning to escape, but she needed a fake ID card first.
After she was done, she stole her adoptive parents’ large amount of money. She then packed up and left the disgusting city.
Maeve had been hiding for a year. After her adoptive parents gave up on searching for her, she tried every means to continue her studies and was admitted into a famous university.
Over ten years passed.
Life was hierarchical. She didn’t want to continue being in the lower class. No matter how well she did in the Duncan Group, she was just a little secretary.
Maeve didn’t want to submit. With her ability, skills, and good look, she could easily marry the president. At least, Ryder was much better than Shawn who was an idiot!
Maeve was determined to marry Ryder.
“You don’t know any social etiquette. How can you be here? It’s so kind of Marina to get you in.”
Lola spat and turned to leave.
Maeve was petrified, silently wiping away her tears and not saying a word of explanation.
“Why don’t you explain?”
Ryder asked the woman behind him. In some ways, the two were very similar.
“It was my fault in the first place.”
Maeve shook her head as she was not the host and the main character of the banquet, so it was her fault.
But what was wrong with her? She didn’t know what Marina was wearing, and she had asked to change the dress, but Marina didn’t agree.
“You shouldn’t have come to this place.”
“Unless you can stand at the top and have enough capital, otherwise, it will always be your fault,” Ryder said in an icy tone.
Just like his mother, she would never be able to be admitted into the Langdon family for the rest of her life, and her identity would not be exposed.
If it wasn’t for the paternity test and the fact that the Langdon family didn’t have an outstanding heir, Colin wouldn’t have acknowledged an illegitimate child and made the family become a joke among the wealthy families.
But it didn’t matter anymore. He was the one standing in a high position now.
Ryder said no more and went straight to Marina’s room. He wanted to see what her intention was.
“You’re here.”
Marina lied on the sofa, and her face was a little pale.
The couple talked normally, and neither of them mentioned the thing just now.
“It’s getting late. I’m here to take you home.”
Ryder squinted and looked at Marina. Her eyes were red, and it seemed that she had cried.
“I don’t want to go back. I want to stay here for some days.”
Marina shook her head and insisted for the first time.
“Are you throwing a tantrum?”
“It was misunderstood.” Ryder’s voice was cold. Since he didn’t care about the fault, he thought that Marina should let it go.
