“So, Mr. Marshall? You’ve been working with Mr. Morgan for how many years now?” one of Blake’s business partners asked.
“It’s been nine years, Mr. Howard.”
“So, literally a year after Mr. Morgan established his company and you joined him?”
“That’s right.”
“Ah, I see. I heard a lot about his working environment and I must say, I heard nothing but good stuff.”
“Thank you. Mr. Morgan has always tried to keep his staff enjoying the working life with him.”
“You’re not interested to be my secretary instead, Mr. Marshall?” another one of Blake’s partners cut in and joked while he laughed. Hell to the fucking no, buddy.
“That’s a lovely offer but I’m afraid I have to decline that offer,” I politely refused. Although I wanted to shout out in your dreams, asshole but I had to keep it professional. Or I would be doomed. No one wanted to face Blake’s wrath, and that included me.
“Mr. Marshall, have you seen my daughter?” Dean-Carol’s father came and asked about that abomination he called a daughter. I really wanted to tell him to take that brat away from me since she was such a pain in my fucking ass.
“No, sir. I don’t.”
“I see. I saw her walked out but I don’t know where. She didn’t even tell me. But, anyway. How is she?”
“Well, as usual.” A troublemaker.
“Did she cause any trouble again?” Well, yes. A fucking lot. I wanted to mention every single of it but I better kept my mouth shut. For now.
“Nothing, for now.”
“Well, my daughter has never been working before.” I knew that. She probably didn’t know how harsh and cruel the world was. All she knew was barking orders to her waiters and waitress and she would get it in a second or she would kick their asses. “I wanted her to know the working life better so I asked Mr. Morgan to let her become his intern for a while.” Well, you should take her to your own office, dumbass.
“But, seriously. Where did she go?” Dean asked again.
“I have no idea, sir,” I replied while drinking my champagne. But then the little monster showed up and immediately sat next to her father.
“Oh, there you are, lady,” he said and put his hand on her shoulders but she immediately slapped his hand away. She looked…pissed. I wondered who or what had got into her nerves. That person could only pray to God because they were messing around with the incarnation of Cinderella’s sister. In my mind so far, only me and Blake could handle her. Just look? Not even the father could handle her.
Thinking of Blake, I looked at his table but he was not there. I saw him following Olivia when she stood up from her table. They were probably talking in his office as I prayed Olivia would just listen to him. It was not going to be easy but at least she would listen.
It was such a pity for them to be separated but Blake had his own reasons. As long as she was his daughter, they couldn’t be together. And Blake was about to do something crazy. Well, he was crazy but what he was thinking was crazier. I hoped it would work because maybe…that was the only way.
My phone chimed in in the middle of thinking and I saw it was a call from the lady of my life. I smirked and walked out of the hall after I excused myself from Dean but I ignored the daughter. “Hi, baby.”
“How are they?” She could at least greet me back but she asked her…what she called it again? Oh, right. Her ship.
“They are talking now.”
“I see. I hope everything will turn out okay.”
“I hope so too. Would you like to come around now?”
“No. I know my Director is there and Olivia too.” I knew she would refuse when I asked her to be my date for tonight. Me and my Boss practically had no date for the night. He only asked me to invite that intern to join just to pissed Olivia off but, in the end, he handed her over to me. Good thing her father was around so she would be sitting with him.
“I miss you, baby.”
Karen scoffed. “In case you forgot, it was you who don’t want to do this anymore and you’re waiting for me to beg you. Now it’s the other way around.” That was true though, but…
“I don’t fucking care what are you trying to say. I miss you and I’m sick doing all the phone and video sex for two fucking years. All I wanted is you right in front of me and presenting yourself.”
“Not when you’re currently at the party, Mister.” I chuckled at her terrible joke.
“No, baby. I won’t show you around with lots of audiences. Your beauty is only mine to see.” Karen was silent but I could tell she was blushing and probably biting her sexy lips. I wanted to take a bite on it again, no, maybe lots of bites. And exploring her beautiful body once again. I never had sex since I slept with Karen and I was about to reach my limit. My hands couldn’t satisfy me anymore and I needed this girl, physically with me. “When can I see you?” Fuck, my voice sounds like a pussy.
“Gentle reminder, it’s my decision when we’ll meet.” Nice, she was trying to piss me off.
“Just fucking give up, Karen. I know you want me.”
“Stop it, John.”
“No, I will never give up. Not until I have you. And you better stop being a stubborn ass.” The second I tried to sound threatening to her, I saw Javier appeared beside me while holding his phone. Shit, did he hear me?
Javier turned his eyes and nodded his head while smiling lightly. I found myself nodding back. “I have to go. I’m sorry for my sudden outburst. Good night.”
“Good night, John.” I ended the call and looked to where Javier was as he exhaled and laid his back on the wall, looking tired. I went closer to him. “Tough night?”
He looked back at me. “A little bit. I wasn’t really a party person and it drains me.” I knew that feeling. I was the same but since I was working as Blake’s secretary, I had to manage myself and didn’t look bored in front of his important partners.
I laid my back beside him. “I heard you’re dating Olivia now.”
“Mr. Morgan told you?” I nodded my head. “I like her, so much. She’s nice, bright, but she looks vulnerable like she’s being hurt badly by someone.” That someone was Blake. He hurt her deeply but I couldn’t tell him that. I could see Olivia hadn’t told him yet about Blake. “Do you have a girlfriend, Mr. Marshall?”
“Me?” I laughed at myself. I wanted to consider Karen as my girlfriend since the girl was practically attracted to me. “I don’t, but I have someone I like.”
“Oh? Are you going to confess anytime soon?” This was so weird. Talking about women with Javier because we never had this kind of conversation ever since I came to know him. Our relationship was purely based on business.
“She knows, but she’s being a stubborn woman and plays hard as prey to catch.” Javier laughed at my statement.
“I hope you will catch her soon.” I was hoping the same as well. Waiting sucks, and I was never good at it. “Don’t let her go once you have her, and always protect her from a very bad wolf.” I thought there was something wrong with his statement. When I looked back at him and found him looking down, there was something…different. “Mr. Marshall? Do I look that kind and gentle?” Again, there was something wrong.
I knew.
Blake knew.
Olivia didn’t.
Not everyone knew his dark and dirty secret. Olivia probably knew him as the gentlest man she had ever met after her terrible encounter with Stewart before when I wanted to kill him so bad previously. Although Olivia was just Karen’s best friend and Blake’s daughter at that time, I cared for her deeply and no one touched her besides Blake.
But Javier was different. I thought Olivia would be shocked the moment she knew his secret. She would accept it in the end, she might be just…shocked at first. “You look like one.” I heard him smirking at me and he raised his head so he would be looking at me. That’s when I saw the different version of Javier Ronan.
Cold…and dark.
“Sometimes it’s tiring hearing people said I was kind. I still have my dark side which I desperately wanted to leave behind. I wanted to be the man worthy of Olivia and I won’t let anyone bother us. What do you think, Mr. Marshall? If the woman you love is with someone else and he’s flirting with her, what are you doing to do?” That question was simple to answer.
“I’m probably going to kill the guy.”
He smirked. “As I expected. I’m just the same. I could only see red when someone is trying to steal Olivia away from me.” I could only conclude one thing when he said that and at the same time, his phone rang and looked at it. “It’s Olivia. She asked me to wait for her in front of Mr. Morgan’s private elevator,” he informed and he turned back to me. He reached out his hand to me. “It’s a pleasure to talk to you, Mr. Marshall. I apologized for saying such weird stuff.”
I shook his hand. “No, you don’t. It’s normal for a man to be worried about his woman.” Javier pulled his hand and went to where Blake’s elevator was.
Blake had done it. The conclusion? He had created an enemy.
And Javier had known about it.
