For the next two days, so as not to arouse Desiderio’s suspicions, Allyce and Severo continued to go to the auction site.
Allyce did not bid on any other items, but Severo bought a few more at random.
As Desiderio had said he wanted to have dinner with Allyce, Allyce and Severo decided to invite Desiderio after discussing the matter.
Desiderio readily agreed and the venue was the Gran Hotel where the auction was being held.
Allyce and Severo arrived early, while Desiderio had to arrive later due to an unexpected engagement.
They ordered their drinks and waited for Desiderio to arrive.
At that moment, Severo’s mobile phone rang in his pocket.
He picked it up without a second thought and said one word: “Speak”.
The person on the other end of the line didn’t know what to say, and Severo’s face was changing, and when he hung up the phone, his face was unusually grave.
Allyce asked him: “What’s wrong?
“I had someone look into the matter of “Desiderio’s” treatment abroad and now I have obtained the definitive result that the real “Desiderio” had indeed died three years ago during his treatment abroad”.
Severo’s face was sombre and his eyes flickered thoughtfully.
Although he had suspected Desiderio from the beginning, it was only for his own purposes, but he had never suspected that this ‘Desiderio’ might be an impostor.
I had not been in contact with Desiderio before, but I had heard of him, after all, Alvidrez was an important player in the national group.
Stunned, Allyce asked: “What about the real identity of this ‘Desiderio’?
He had been completely unable to react when he heard Senona tell him at first, and his whole body was confused.
It would have been impossible for anyone to accept the fact that the man he had called “uncle” for more than two years was in fact a false identity so quickly and calmly.
Over the past few days, he had gradually accepted the fact, so the shock was lessened when Severo went to confirm it.
Without waiting for Severo to say anything, Allyce asked again: “Are there really people in this world who look alike?
Severo was about to say something when he saw Desiderio, who was not far away, walking towards him.
He reached out and squeezed Allyce’s hand, who looked up with some understanding, just in time to see Desiderio.
Desiderio approached and spoke with an apologetic face: “I’m sorry to have kept you waiting”.
His polite and refined demeanour was typical of his group’s chairman, Alvidrez.
Even if he was pretending to be someone else, his real identity must have been different.
Allyce pursed her lips and smiled: “We’ve just arrived too.
Desiderio said no more and sat down.
Allyce was a little nervous.
He had not dared to look at Desiderio during the entire meal.
Desiderio was no less cunning than Severo and she feared he might reveal himself.
Desiderio was the first to find a topic of conversation: “I didn’t expect Mr. Betances to be so busy and have time to come to Ciudad del Cielo for such a boring auction.
Severo said with a calm face, “For me it’s not really boring, there are many good things in the auction”.
Both men were extremely quiet, but Allyce could feel the smoke spreading silently.
The seemingly quiet words seemed to have a deeper meaning.
Desiderio laughed lightly at his words and looked at Allyce with a soft but slightly lost tone: “You came to Ciudad del Cielo with Mr. Betances and didn’t inform me beforehand, Allyce doesn’t consider me an uncle”.
Allyce was quick to deny it: “No, we were in a hurry to leave, so we didn’t have time to tell you, and you’re usually busy, so you’ll see me when you come.
Desiderio smiled slightly and said nothing.
Allyce smiled back.
…
After dinner, the couple separated in front of the hotel.
Once back in the car, Allyce asked Severo: “Did I just do a great job?”
Severo did not raise his head: “Yes”.
Allyce breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Severo speak again: “But he must be suspicious by now”.
“Huh?” Allyce wondered, hadn’t she said she hadn’t exposed herself?
“He will find out sooner or later, he concealed the death of the real “Desiderio” so thoroughly that it took more than three years for someone to find out, and I sent someone abroad to investigate the matter, and although I did it by stealth, you can guess that I had someone look into it.”
Desiderius was no ordinary man, and even if Severus’ people had left no trace, Desiderius would naturally have suspected it was him.
Allyce’s face changed slightly when she heard him say that: “So what then?
“We don’t have to do anything, he’ll take the initiative”. Desiderio, as intelligent and calm as he was, would do something if he knew what had been hidden from him for years.
Allyce pursed her lips, her emotions a little mixed.
I used to think of Desiderio as family, but I didn’t expect it to turn out that way.
Suddenly, he remembered that there was something important he had not told Severo.
“I followed Desiderio the day I arrived at Ciudad del Cielo and saw him meeting with Amado Mejía!
Once Severo arrived, all Allyce’s attention was focused on him and Desiderio, so he forgot about Amado Mejía.
Severo’s face changed slightly at his words and then he spoke: “Did you follow Desiderio?
“…” That didn’t seem to be the point, did it?
Allyce felt that Severo was unfocused and repeated it again, saying: “I mean, Amado Mejía, I saw Amado Mejía and Desiderio meet.
Severo did not rush his words with interest and continued: “You think you’re a detective?
Allyce argued quietly, “I’m not a detective, but I have a desire to know …”.
Suddenly, Severo reached out and rubbed the top of her hair, lifted her chin and kissed her before taking her in his arms without speaking.
If he had not forced her to accept the divorce and the two of them had not separated, she would not have ventured out on her own.
Allyce tried to look at Severo in disbelief, only to move and realise that Severo’s arms were squeezing her too tightly to move.
Then he heard Severo’s voice commanding: “Prepare to return to Cloud Cit”.
…
The group returned to the hotel, packed up and headed straight to the airport.
Allyce thought they were taking a passenger plane at the airport, but when she saw the small plane in front of her, she realised that Severo had come in a private jet.
It was already evening and the temperature was dropping and the evening breeze was cooling her down.
Severo followed behind her, held out the jacket he had prepared earlier for Allyce and watched her put it on before taking her hand and walking towards the plane.
Allyce was half a step behind and raised her eyes to look at him.
He was so nervous about her that he had rushed to take a private plane when he heard she was coming to Ciudad del Cielo.
