After taking a bath, I quickly approached my baggage just to find a formal suit. When I’m done tidying up, I quickly left the room and went to Angela’s room.
As I entered, I saw Maymay looking at her big sister Angela who was sleeping on the bed. I could see the sadness on the child’s face.
I took a deep breath and released it slowly. I knocked on the door just to get the child’s attention and I succeeded.
She quickly wiped away her tears and cleared her throat.
“Sir Clark,” she uttered in a weak voice. I walked to approach her. I sat on the bed next to Maymay and glanced at Angela.
“She will be fine soon, Maymay,” I reassured her and averted my gaze back to the child. She lowered her gaze. It looked like she was embarrassed to show her weakness in front of me.
Without any hesitation, I hugged her tightly which made her break into tears. She hugged me back while crying her heart out.
She was so broken by what happened to her big sister. Even though she didn’t know the real reason why her sister got hospitalized, it seemed the child felt the sacrifices of her big sister for them.
I couldn’t help myself but cry. Seeing a little child crying in my arms makes me weak.
I wiped away my tears before letting go of our hug.
“Maymay, don’t cry,” I comforted her and I am the one who wipes her tears away.
“You need to be strong, okay? For Angela,” after saying those words, she refrained from crying and wiped her tears again.
I got heartbroken while staring at the child’s reaction.
Our attention to each other broke from a sudden knock on the door. I looked in the door’s direction just to see Bel standing while looking at us. Based on her expression, she was minute ago standing and watching us.
“Clark, we need to go,” she uttered in a low voice. I nodded at her before averting my gaze back to Maymay.
“Maymay… Bel and I are going to go outside to find a job,” I explained while holding her both shoulders.
“Stay here, okay? Stay at Angela’s side. We are going back as soon as possible after the interview.”
The child slowly nodded in agreement. She moved closer to Angela. She was staring again at the face of her big sister.
With a heavy heart, I stood up and approached Bel.
“Do you know where Kokoy is?” I asked before we left Maymay and Angela inside the room.
“He’s outside. Fetching water in the well,” Bel answered. We went outside and waited for a vehicle to ride in.
The bus stopped in front of us and we entered quickly.
After a half-hour of the ride, we were already in front of a coffee shop.
“Is this the coffee shop of your client?” I asked Bel while scanning the place.
The coffee shop was bigger than the other coffee shop in this road lane. It looks like the owner is not an ordinary person.
“Yes. Let’s go!” Bel exclaimed in excitement before she entered the establishment. I followed Bel quickly.
Bel talked to the manager first while I am quietly standing on the side, scanning the place. The ambiance is so relaxing to look at. I could say the interior materials are expensive. I could conclude the owner has a construction firm like what Bel said.
“Clark!” My attention shifted to Bel when she called me.
“Come here! Quick!”
I nodded at her and followed.
We entered a small office. The manager let us have a seat in the waiting area and said to take a seat first. He would inform the owner that we are already here.
“Shit, Clark! I hope we both get hired!” she exclaimed in excitement.
I just shook my head and smirked.
“Definitely, you will get hired because you personally know the owner. The question here is do I have a chance to get hired here?” I uttered hopelessly.
I frowned when Bel burst into a laugh.
“Come on, Clark! You are better than this!” she tapped my shoulder while chuckling.
“You studied abroad then you doubted your credibility? Don’t insult me… You are way better than me,” she uttered in a joke then chuckled again.
Somehow, the nervousness I felt subsided because of Bel’s positivity.
I took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly to make me calm.
“Miss Bel?” the manager called while peeking at us at the door, on the right side of the room.
“Get inside of the office, miss.”
Bel stood up with confidence and entered the room. I was left alone in the waiting area.
I crossed my arm while staring deeply at the white wall.
My confidence has been taken away from me. Maybe because I’m out of my comfort zone. The pressure and desperation to get hired added to the nervousness inside of my chest.
What if I fail?
“I need to get hired for Angela…” I whispered and puffed out a breath.
“Sir Clark?”
I quickly looked to the door just to see the manager looking at me. After a second, Bel got out of the room with a wide smile on her face.
I stood up and approached her.
“You get hired?” I asked. She quickly nodded in joy. I smiled. This is good news.
“Good luck, Clark,” she cheered me up and tapped my right shoulder.
I walked to approach the manager. When I was in front of him, he opened the door wide to make me enter.
I saw a man who I assumed was in his fifties based on his grayish white hair. He’s facing his back in my direction. He was looking outside the glass wall. It looked like he was enjoying the view outside of his coffee shop.
The manager finally left us and closed the door. When the door locked, the man wearing a tuxedo faced my direction.
I got frozen after I saw the face of the man. He was shocked too but after a second, he went back to his normal state.
He approached his office chair and sat. He looked at me then smirked.
“What a small world Clark Clarkson…”
“Penniless?” he mocked and chuckled while staring at my face.
The man in front of me was no other than Mr. Montenegro. The man who was chasing Magda before in the club. The day I saved Magda from him.
I remembered the words I said, like threatening him to pull out his shares in our car company.
I shut my eyes and then open them again.
“Take a seat, Sir Clark,” he uttered in a playful tone, then rested his back on the office chair.
